Exactly What I Expected | Gavarion Trigger Drill DXAdded:
Welcome to Sultron. This is the video review for the DX Gavarian trigger and Gavarian drill.
And here's a size comparison. You can see he is your standard Megazord size, which is much bigger than a leader transformer, maybe like commander class.
And here's the box. It's nothing really special, but I guess it's pretty eye-catching. The suits in this show are definitely very eye-catching. Um, but the box itself is pretty um kind of bog standard. It's nothing really special.
And it does just come with like a cardboard insert. No instructions, nothing like that. So, very minimal. And same for the drill.
He was also pretty minimal.
Uh, he um this one came in bubble wrap, so I don't know if maybe I got a used one.
That's I guess that's what happened. Oh, and now that I look at the back, I realize I've been transforming this incorrectly. But anyway, all right. And here's a 360 view of the guy. And you can see he looks uh pretty stupid. So, um yeah, I was very resistant to getting this series because of the terrible weapon combinations.
I think the base robot is decent, but uh these combinations are just terrible because you put basically the entire weapon just ends up on his arm. You get a tiny little te chest plate and then you get a new head. Um and that's totally the whole gimmick. And even the base robot, he's pretty um he's all right. He's just I think he looks good from the front actually. The colors are the silver and white is actually works very nicely. But this back like look how terrible this back looks. Um, which is fine. If you're going to give it a bad angle, it really should be the back. But yeah, it's I I really like drill robots, but not um not this one. It's just not good.
And here's a closeup of his head sculpt.
It's pretty cool, actually. I do like these kind of like horn pylons going on.
Um, the face, it's kind of annoying that the face is like split up because it splits right through his eyes, which is like the worst place to split him. They could have did that a little bit more cleanly.
Um, but you do get like this weird slit pupil look, I guess, is what's happening. It's really hard to tell.
He's got like four eyes, maybe. It's It's kind of hard to tell what's happening, but the turquoise is very cool. Um, it's a cool looking head sculpt all in all. And Yeah, it's just um yeah, he's just you get what you get with this figure. Like you're not going to there's nothing really surprising here. I guess you got I mean the electronics I guess is a big part of it.
So you could flip the switch here.
>> So that is like a little bonus right there. And you can like press the trigger here and he'll do basic shooting sound.
You can charge it up and then you get a more intense sound. U which is the same with different heads too. So the heads actually control different gimmicks. Like if you take this head off and then you put it on, you get like a theme song and you get a blue color.
And this song is different than the default head.
And then when you turn that, it basically activates it.
All right, you get the idea. But there's not like any other buttons or anything to push. Like this is the only button is this.
Um I could be wrong. I I have not spent a lot of time with this series, but yeah, it looks like that's all he really does. But I do like the blue light in his chest. That is actually pretty cool.
Um yeah, as far as his articulation, his head sort of articulates, but that's really just for the transformation. So you can actually get him to look to the side.
So, that's something, I guess. Um, but that's really just for the transformation. And he won't turn the other way. He does have 360 in this shoulder, which is on a ratchet. Um, a spring ratchet. And then he does have this, which is like a 90° detent in every direction.
Uh, that's more for transformation than anything. His arm does have this outward motion here, which goes this far out.
That's the maximum out it can go. And then um even if you have the arm all the way out, his his drill arm is still too long. His foot is not even touching the ground. It always has to be tilted forward. Um and this arm does swivel. It goes 360°. Obviously, there's nothing going to block that. Um and this this forearm does not have a swivel, but the drill itself has a swivel built in if you pull this down. So, you can actually articulate this a little bit, but then it just looks like he's um carrying a vehicle on his arm, which is not a great look. You could also swivel it the other direction.
You kind of have to pop the treads out, but you can get it this way, which I think might actually look a little bit more reasonable to be honest. It looks a little more cohesive.
Um, he does have waist swivel, but this is for transformation. So, he can rotate and it's kind of like locked at 90°.
It's got a soft detent. Um, but you can get it, you can halfway it, so that's not bad. And then he does have his leg motion is again just for transformation. It's not it's not actual leg articulation. It folds out. So, it breaks at kind of a weird angle. And then these clips are really to peg it into his crotch just to keep everything locked up. So his legs are not meant to articulate. There's no knees, no ankle tilts or anything like that. Um thankfully the ratchets are strong enough that he can hold up his drill barely. But this is a heavy drill. Oh, this is a heavy drill. So that's actually impressive that he can even hold this even if it's literally just barely. Um yeah, that's about it.
There's not really anything else to say about this guy. You can transform him. Um, I might as well do it. I guess it's very simple. You just rotate his face to this. So, now you have like his little robot partner or whatever. I don't know. Emogear, emogear. And then this is going to clip into the tread right here. You can see the clip. It's visible.
Oh, I guess it clips this way.
And then you're just going to swivel his waist, uh, rotate this around, and this is going to clip into his butt right here.
This is his legs are going to swivel all the way up.
And then this is also going to clip down. And there you have um, this is like an unofficial mode, but this is would be his gun mode, I guess.
Um, and then the the handle is very small. I do not have huge hands and I could I cannot hold this with my entire hand. So you get the trigger. Very cool.
The light is over here.
So I think you do get a different sound effect based on what ammo gear is loaded in here. Um and then you can like pull up this handle which makes the weapon feel like it's a two-handed weapon. You can kind of like use the drill bayonet and then you can shoot down here. So that's cool that this has like another handle here. Um, technically this is supposed to be the vehicle mode. So it goes like this and then Okay. And then these wings like pop out. So this is a vehicle. And then I need to reload this gear right here.
Um, and then I saw it looks like the treads are actually supposed to be facing up. So, I don't know how you're You have to release the vehicle by pressing these two in. But technically, this is supposed to be rotated up when you dock them together. And then you can just click this back into the fist again.
Um, how does that Oh, maybe I have the thing upside down.
Supposed to be like this. And then, okay, this is really not complicated. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with it. But anyway, this rotates around here.
And there you go. So, this um this actually Wow. Yeah, I've been transforming this wrong the whole time.
This actually looks pretty good. This does look very cohesive.
Um, it's I wouldn't say it looks like a ship of any kind, but you get the cockpit here. You unfortunately lose the cockpit on the other ship. It's now upside down, but that's not that big a deal. Um, but actually that I have to give credit where credit's due. This is actually a pretty cool looking ship mode, even though it's just a gun mode flipped upside down. So, gun mode. Here's here's the gun weapon. Now, you don't get access to the handle anymore like this, but that's okay. I still think it looks cool. So, it does become like a giant drill weapon.
Okay, I'm going to turn that off. It's getting kind of annoying. Uh, I just have to find this back. Here it is. All right. So yeah, that's um so yeah, of course it can just be a gun, too. Why not be a giant drill rifle? Oh, yeah, and I forgot to mention, you do still get the gimmick. You have But you have to manually roll the the uh the wheel by yourself. And then I guess you could load in the ammo gear emo gear. You could put him in here and then you can just twist him around.
Um, and you can get the gimmick going.
Really, the best place to hold him is the top of his head because that's linked to the base. So, you can get his um pulsating drill mode, whatever.
Um, yeah. So, that's his big gimmick.
So, there he is. That's what he looks like in his vehicle mode. And then you can roll him and that activates the drill. Um, pretty typical drill dozer gimmick.
Um, I think this guy alone was like $33, which is Yeah, I guess it's an okay amount. I don't I don't feel like I got ripped off exactly. He's He's okay. The the plastic quality is very good. I think this actually feels better than the the Tega sword stuff. So, actually, it's nice that the quality is like back up. And the um the ammo gear itself does have a nice little spring-loaded gimmick. So that's just what he looks like. But you can see he's got four pins showing, but when you rotate him to have his face showing now all six gears are engaged.
So I guess that's how it knows which head you have on. I guess you start with this.
You start with this and then once you lock the other two pins, then it knows um which head is going, I guess. Um, so yeah, that's this set. I It's It feels good. Uh, the the plastic quality is topnotch. It does feel really good in hand. Everything clicks in nicely. Um, except for that for some reason. I don't know what the problem is.
Um, yeah, it's just a very nice nice set. I um What am I doing wrong here?
Oh, he's supposed to go kind of sideways. And then you can press this in. And that's how you're supposed to release the emulator. You're not supposed to just yank it out. Even though that's fine, but you're supposed to technically push that in and then pull him out. Oh, no. You have to actually line up. This white one is actually supposed to be facing front and then you can release him correctly.
So, he has to be facing sideways and then this will come out. Wait, what?
then this will come out correctly. I don't know. It's It's easier to just yank it out. It's hard to line this up correctly. Anyway, um yeah, I got it from Amazon Japan. 33 bucks for this. Um it was about 70 bucks for this or actually I guess it was cheaper, 67 for this cuz I paid $100 for both together. Um you can actually order this from the regular Amazon website, but it's a little more expensive. believe it was $106.
So if you order through Amazon Japan, it's actually a little cheaper. Um, and then this is for the basic set. So you get this and the standard head, which I think is cool. Looks kind of like a little shuttle. So that's that's nice.
Um, you get this thing, which I don't know what these are. Um, to be honest, I don't understand what the point of these things are.
Um, but yeah, you uh this is technically his robot mode, I guess. And then we just load him into here. And his lights and sound are going to be a little bit different.
So, he's got the orange, then he's got this sound effect, and then Oh, I guess you're supposed to transform him real fast.
Oh, >> okay. I guess I hit the trigger. I don't know. I messed it up.
So, anyway, um he's very easy to transform.
Let me try that again.
And then this is what's going to activate him. Was activating his head.
And he's got the orange chest effect, which is very cool. So, it's nice that they have different ones. And I guess the default is the white. Um uh um it actually doesn't flutter like this. That's just because the camera speed. So um it it is just a solid light. Um yeah. So this is his default head, which is very strange looking.
Again, I like that it has the two horns.
Um it he looks bald, which is really weird. He has a very high forehead, so really odd choice for the head. Um, and then like the other thing about his proportions is his arms are very short.
Like his arms are not even don't even go down to his crotch. His arms really should be more like down here would make more sense. That would be like the correct length of an arm for robot proportions.
Or maybe like down here. And there should be an elbow joint like right here.
That would be nice. Um, but yeah, it's it's a good quality figure. $67 is a pretty good price for this. The only hollow thing he has is the inside of his feet, which is not that big a deal, but he's pretty filled out everywhere else. Um, they definitely did cut cost as much as possible. Like, this is all one solid piece of plastic.
This whole gray shin. And then if you look inside these vents, it's actually hollow in there. You can actually see the inside of his legs. Um, it's not just like a paint effect or something.
And he feels uh he feels pretty hefty.
He feels like a good kids toy actually.
But, um, yeah, I don't I only bought this set because I'm looking forward to the next combination that releases in July or June. That's the whole reason I got this guy. Um, I probably will customize him before then because he just needs it. He just he's just so lacking in articulation and flavor that he just he just needs a little tuneup. So, uh let me know what you think in the comments and remember to check out my eBay link and I'll see you in the next one.
