[00:00:00]We're here in High Show and with me is one of the largest species of sea hares in Singapore.

[00:00:06]>> [music] >> Common on intertidal walks here in Singapore, this large herbivore grazes [music] on algae, helping to prevent algal overgrowth on reefs and our sea beds.

[00:00:16]>> [music] >> When threatened, it releases a purple-pink dye containing deterrent compounds that disrupt [music] predator senses. Its feeding converts algal biomass into waste that can be used by other [music] organisms, aiding nutrient cycling. It also has a relatively short life cycle, often appearing seasonally in high numbers here in Singapore.
