Chaos in Veneto, Italy! Tornadoes, storms, hail, and flooding destroy homes and vehicles.Added:
A powerful storm struck the Veneto region on Monday afternoon, May 11th, causing widespread disruption, particularly in the provinces of Verona, Treviso, and Eastern Veneto.
Since early morning today, May 12th, damage has been felt, particularly in seaside resorts where a sea cyclone observed off the coast of Caorle has reached the coast causing serious consequences.
In the Lido Ovest campsite, around 20 trees were uprooted and at least five homes were destroyed.
In the city of Verona, wind, rain, and hail caused hundreds of trees to be uprooted, roofs toppled, and dozens of cars were damaged by hail.
The tornado lasted only a few minutes, but caused extensive damage. Roofs were ripped off houses and cars were damaged.
In the Vicenza region, Lonigo was the worst affected. Treviso also experienced a wave of severe weather centered in Villorba between Catena and Castrette, where the tornado struck in the afternoon.
Hail, wind, and heavy rain caused flooding, downed trees, and damage to homes, businesses, and cars.
For local health authorities, two vehicles were also affected in the parking lot of a mental health center on Via Silvio Pellico, struck by metal fragments that had come loose from tarpaulins.
In Castrette, the roof and cladding of a building were damaged, while a large pine tree fell on a playground. A warehouse on Via Edison also collapsed.
Oh [ __ ] Oh my god.
Disruptions also occurred in Treviso, Montebelluna, and Castelfranco with flooding and down trees. Severe damage was reported to agricultural land between San Biagio and Salgareda.
Finally, train traffic was halted in Montebelluna due to a damaged level crossing. Wind and hail also caused damage in Cessalto, Pramaggiore, Gruaro, and Teglio Veneto.
In Bibione Pineda, after overnight flooding, firefighters worked tirelessly until dawn to remove about a dozen fallen trees along the road.
Some tourists were relocated to other accommodations provided by travel agencies.
Tree roots blown by the wind also damaged water pipes leaving several holiday homes without water. While the LTA Consortium is already busy making repairs.
In Caorle, the situation appears more under control today.
Although signs of the hailstone are still evident. With flooded farmland, roads strewn with branches and leaves and clean up operations still underway.
Meanwhile, Coldiretti technicians are conducting inspections across Eastern Veneto to assess the impact on crops.
In the Sandrinate region, damage is still being assessed while in the Portogruaro region, the Lison Pramaggiore vineyards between Gruaro, Annone and Pramaggiore are relatively unscathed.
However, the most critical area is the coastal area between Ottava Presa and Caorle.
With significant damage also to greenhouses and agricultural crops.
Firefighters have carried out more than 90 interventions across the Veneto region due to the severe weather that has hit the region since yesterday, May 11th, with heavy rain, hail, and strong winds.
The city of Verona was particularly affected where a powerful storm hit yesterday afternoon causing a firefighter to suffer minor injuries while removing a large tree branch.
As of this morning, a total of 40 interventions had been carried out in the city of Verona to deal with fallen trees and collapsed roofs caused by wind and rain with many more still to be completed.
Overnight, a three-dimensional aerial platform was dispatched from the Rovigo command center and a fire engine from the Vicenza command center.
Across the rest of the region, 17 interventions were carried out in the province of Venice, primarily in San Michele al Tagliamento, Bibione, Caorle, and Porto Gruaro, 14 in the Padua region, 13 in the Treviso region, and eight in the Vicenza region.
Firefighters remain primarily involved in removing dangerous trees and branches, draining garages and basements, and securing roofs damaged by the wind.
>> CURRENTLY, THERE ARE STILL 25 unanswered calls, mostly related to dangerous trees, obstruction removal, and structural damage, almost all of which are concentrated in the municipality of Verona.
