High pressure systems create record heat by sinking and compressing air, which warms the surface through friction, combined with clear skies that allow solar radiation to heat the ground, resulting in temperatures reaching 90s°F in New Mexico during this forecast period.

Record heat possible & mostly dry around New MexicoAdded:
Storms here not really uh a concern at this time, right?
>> At least for today. Yeah, mostly dry, very warm though. Record heat will be the big story weatherwise today.
>> In the Northeast Heights, it's 4:44 right now on this Tuesday morning. It's 67° at the Sunport. Very mild. 62, 61 at Sandia Park. Meanwhile, 38 in Morardi, 59 Bernal Leo Rio Rancho, and 56 Los Lunes. So mild air in the Rio Grandi Valley, a little bit of a chill in the air in the eastern highlands and mountains. The reason why it's milder this morning, well, we're dealing with some southerntherly winds coming in a little bit from the east descending down the sandas allowing for that initial rush of wind to cause well not that much of a cool down. 62 degrees right now in Albuquerque, 35% humidity, very clear skies. 53 right now in Santa Fe, 37 Alamosa. By the way, we reached well into the 70s yesterday in Angel Fire.
This morning in the 20s, high humidity, but no fog or mist for now. 58 in Las Vegas. We're sitting at 65 Carlsbad, 60 Alamagordo, 63 in Deming, 64 Los Cusus, 40 in Grants, 51 either way. Very mild throughout much of our viewing area. 51 there in Farmington. Very clear skies.
This is the past few hours. Time lapse of satellite radar. Not much going on.
And today with that high pressure system overhead sinking, compressing air from that high pressure sinking down toward the ground creates high pressure and friction at the surface causing that surface to heat up. As the sun heats the ground, the ground heats the earth.
Under high pressure systems, you tend to get very warm air masses. Somewhat chilly mornings with clear, calm, dry conditions in the morning hours with radiation cooling. But solar radiational heating will commence this afternoon.
Close to 92, 93 in Albuquerque. High 90s in Tukum Kerry and Carlsbad and Hobbs.
Clovis, Portalis, and Deming. Mid to upper 90s. Even as far northwest as Farmington in the San Juan basin in the low 90s and Santa Fe close to 90 today.
80s Raton toward Alamosa. 90 degree days. Well, we've had two of them so far in 2026. Our average first 90 degree day is May 26. And our earliest 90°ree day in a given season, while it happened this year, March 21st at 91° today's forecast high at 92, likely at least tying or breaking so far the highest temperature in 2026 today. Mostly clear, just some sprinkles in the Sacramento mountains as well as in the Sangre de Crystal Mountains. the Simmeron range, the Tucus range for the San Juan Mountains to the Hila National Forest in some nearby areas. Verus showers, meaning that rain may not reach the ground, but may allow for some gusty conditions to spread out toward the ground. Cloudier tomorrow, but still very warm. Look at that. more widespread chances for spotty to isolated showers, even some sprinkles near Albuquerque, Santa Fe, also near the Magdalena Mountains, even the San Juan Basin, and closer to the Sand Diaz and Monzano mountains as well, courtesy of that high pressure system moving east, allowing for that southwesterly flow to still allow for warm weather. Very warm matter of fact, but more clouds and moisture in the mix a lot as well. Close to 100 tomorrow in Carlsbad, very warm in Tukum Carry, the 90s. Farmington to Deming, high 80s and 90s tomorrow. 80s Alamosa for tomorrow with again spy chances for not only showers but rumbles of thunder, especially northern areas and along the central mountains for not only tomorrow but Thursday, but with also gustier winds. Calmer and cooler later Thursday into early Friday, then warming up back into Durango on Saturday. Alamosa lows in the high 30s, 40s tomorrow morning.
Farmington, Galp, and Cuba. Highs in the high 80s, low 90s. Cloudier, slightly cooler tomorrow. Slightly better chances for rain. Glenwood to the south, 90s.
Now, if you go closer to Carl'sbad and Roswell, a couple areas may sneak in at 100° at least a couple times, I would say, the next several days.
Cloudcraftoft even above 70 today. A little bit breezier with a very warm weather. A higher fire threat in the northeast plains later in the week.
Conchan Springer springing up in the 80s and 90s. Red River 70s. Espanola 90s.
Angel Fire in the 20s this morning. You make it close to 80° today. Morotti, Asencio, Sandia Park. A milder morning for most and not as humid as yesterday morning. From the north to south valley of Albuquerque, most in the 90s, close to 90 tomorrow in Albuquerque. Our average high 78. Look at those morning lows in the 50s and 60s. My pick of the week Friday, 86. Not too breezy, David.
>> Mhm. My pick of the week is Saturday, so I can sleep in and not have to worry about a thing.
>> 90 degrees and not There you go.
>> Yeah. All right. Thanks a lot, R.
