This meticulous documentation highlights the unglamorous reality that the success of grand restoration projects hinges entirely on the invisible integrity of drainage systems. It is a compelling study of how modern technical precision preserves historical infrastructure.

Whitchurch Canal Breach Update, Screener News, Flood Field Excavation Complete & Broken Land Drain!
Added:Hello everyone. We're back down at the brereech for a nice afternoon update.
Although I must admit it isn't quite the afternoon just yet. So I'm just going to have a look what's going on around site.
And it looks like well when I say it's not the afternoon, it is probably right at the end of break time. But uh oh tell a lie. The screener is moving. So hopefully that gives you an idea of just how steep those banks really are and that the guy is still not visible. So, uh, yeah, certainly quite amusing actually in a way. And there he is. So, that was very well timed indeed. And of course, it is a, uh, a little bit of a fan favorite at the moment, the, uh, the screener moving around site. And I do wonder why they took it so far back. It does seem a little odd, admittedly, but I'm sure there's got to be a reason. Ah, I bet they've probably Yeah. Yeah. So, this is uh, no doubt what uh what we've been on about. So, um I had a lot of comments yesterday saying that they weren't removing the uh the rejected pile. Now, no doubt they've moved the screener back, removed all the the rejected uh items, whether that was uh stones or sticks. Uh seems to be the two main culprits, and uh then I've just managed to capture it right at the end uh when they've moved it back into position. So, we have filmed it a couple times, especially what day is it on Wednesday. Uh we got a nice few videos of them removing that. But uh yeah, so that makes sense and uh we'll keep our eye on that again. Hopefully. Uh like you say, it won't be the last time today that they do that. Uh almost certainly not. So uh I'll try my best to uh to get it on camera. You can imagine it is quite easy to uh miss little bits like that, especially when uh well I've been at home for the last 45 odd minutes, I guess.
Uh, and I did leave a little earlier uh than actual break time this time round just because I had plenty of footage from this morning uh to uh make a video out of. And I have to say when I got home and looked at the uh the time lapse footage uh from flying around site, I absolutely loved it. Absolutely loved it. So that certainly did make its way into the video. So I can tell you that there's no workers currently in the flood field. So, it might be a case where they're doing little odd jobs around site for the moment. You'll see there the little excavator working away as well. So, like I say, won't focus on this too much. I'm more into the big uh the big jobs. I'm certainly a fan of the big jobs, but you'll see that uh one of the operators of the machinery is going back down there. So, I don't think it'll be too long until everything's fired back up and uh back to normal. I've just seen as well that uh the main man and I believe that might be the big dog. Oh, and Ernie's just turned up. Hello, Ernie Burns. Um are doing some strimming on site. So, uh yeah, I mean suppose it does need doing and uh I do feel sorry for them in a way having to do that work on such a warm day. Now, here's Dave.
And uh like I say, Ernie's just turned up. So, he's just having a quick look around site. Make sure everything's operating correctly. And we're back with a nice special treat all the way from Slate, I believe. So, you see there a nice old biplane.
Real cool looking aircraft actually.
And uh we see him relatively often over Witch. And uh he's quite well known in a way. But uh there we go. So, of course, he is a lot higher than uh you might think by looking at the video. He's well out of our way.
Cool. So, let's go and have a look what's going on. Now, I have been uh reliably informed, let's say, that uh there is some news with the screener.
So, uh I'll give you a tour with all that in a second. So, like I say, I have been reliably informed that there is news with the screener. So, I'll go and show you now. It almost looks like No, we're all good. But I can tell you as well, the uh the strimming is still going on in the background. It actually looks very busy over there. They've got both the larger excavators working on the uh the spoil pile and uh the pile to be separated. But yeah, the uh the news is that uh the screen inside the screener uh the bottom layer, the finer one uh will be reduced in diameter. So I'm guessing uh they mustn't be happy uh with the size it is currently and it's been reduced from I think it's 12 1/2 cm to 10. Uh so yeah, that is well it'll be cool to see that. And uh no doubt they've had some uh some results back or just given it a good check through and uh they'd be happier with that than they are currently. I do imagine it's just because of the uh the large lumps of clay that we've been seeing. It won't be rocks and the uh the sticks would already be uh getting caught. No doubt.
So yeah, makes sense. Like I say, we'll go and have a a good look from the other side in a second. So let's go and have a look. although it's got to be done. Uh actual bit of manual labor going on down here. Just getting a talk through of how far they need to go. So, uh yeah, they've been streaming nonstop in the background. As you can imagine, it's a large old area, so I'm not too surprised by that in all honesty. But let's get a good view from above as well. See how much they've uh they've done on this new pile. People love the uh the above shot yesterday. And although I can never go or don't like going directly above, uh you can get pretty pretty close by going uh relatively high up and keeping a a little bit of separation to the side. So that's probably about right. And you can see there they're probably three or four piles into the uh the new line. Looks like they're keeping it away from the uh the one edge they've already done, of course. So, uh, yeah, I don't know. I'd imagine, well, will the cleaned stuff already be regraded? I wouldn't be too surprised.
It's not that big of a job in all honesty, um, considering um, how quick they've already done all this. Uh, yeah, like I say, wouldn't be too surprised. And we'll go and have a look at something else we've been uh, informed about. So, let's go and do that now.
So I know that the uh well people know about the media day on Monday that is replacing the walkound on Wednesday and of course anyone that watches the channel regularly uh will know that unfortunately that is a no can do from me. I've got work in the morning on Monday. Uh so yeah, unfortunately no walk around for me, but I'll be sure to uh do my regular update. And to be fair, with it being um not just a general day, uh with all the YouTubers, it'll be very busy. Uh so I'm not too concerned about that, especially cuz it's going to be around 30°. It'll be very warm in the hive viz, let me tell you. Now, if anyone sees anything orange, then uh do give us a shout. I'll uh probably just have a good look off off camera. um just so I can try and find it. But uh yeah, we'll have a look. So, I've had a good look around and I can't seem to find it, but we have been told that uh it's not the water table. It is indeed a land drain uh that is creating this water in this area. So, there is plans to uh get that sorted uh so this isn't leaking underneath. But like I say, if you can uh if you can see it, then uh do give us a shout. But just from the quick look around, I have had no such luck just yet other than the little bits of orange in the middle of those two piles. But like I say, I'll uh I'll probably have another look later on, see if I can see anything. But it is in that area. So like I say, do uh drop a comment if you can see it. Now, I also want to say a massive thank you to everyone that's been supporting on buying me a coffee and through Super Thanks. And everyone that's been subscribing so far. Just want to say thank you very much. really do appreciate it. Now, I'll let these boys crack on for a little while longer and then uh I'll get the drone back up. So, Dave had a little fly over to the uh the field and he found the land drain they were on about. So, uh I'll have a quick look and I'm not too surprised that I didn't see it cuz it is a lot more hidden than I was expecting it to be.
And I was typically looking in the wrong place as well. So, like I say, we'll go and have a look and see if we can see any water actively coming out. So, like I say, it won't be a big issue really.
And, uh, they are getting it sorted, but you can see there exactly where the water's coming down from. And then, sorry about the shaky footage. It is quite windy at the minute. And then follows there. You'll see straight into it.
Right about there. Like I say, sorry about the uh the shaky footage. I know it's not ideal. especially while some moving it can be a bit shaky like we say and then there's the portion that uh is properly broke but like I say they are uh they are sorting out so don't worry too much and uh yeah that'll explain the uh the water so let's go and have a look across site now I'm guessing uh the work in the flood field at least for this stage is done so uh all the um top soil pile that's been sorted now. And uh yeah, it's looking well, it's looking a bit bare in all honesty, but uh that is the idea behind it, I suppose. And then I'd imagine that uh the spoil pile would be added back into that area. So, let's go and have a look if anything's going on over here. I can see that they are doing a bit of grading on that little bit of the track. And then by the look of it, I've timed it poorly and they've gone on their lunch, but oh no or not. So, I'm guessing he's just been down to uh clear the rejected pile once again.
And we'll go and have a look if he starts digging. Now, I can tell you that they've cracked on real well. Actually, I'm quite surprised by that. And uh I'm also surprised by just how much uh that one side is holding up. It's quite steepsided.
And there he goes going down off the spoil pile.
I should have guessed to be fair the uh the screener isn't currently active. So I feel like with the work in the flood field being done and you know there's only so much screening you can all watch. I will cut the video short there.
I'm not going to film. Like I say, if there's uh it's just going to be screening uh as you can imagine, it's uh I'm not going to film something just for the sake of it. And uh we only aim to put the uh the highlights up and uh I can't imagine people want to see 40 minutes of screening. So uh yeah, I'll leave it here. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Appreciate your time and uh take care. I'll see you back.
Well, I'll see you on Sunday for my close-up video, which I'm excited for with all this work going on. And uh then back to Monday for the regular videos.
So, take care everyone.
