Added:Good day.
Hey, Mr. Pigeon.
Mr. Pigeon.
Oh my god. Oh, computer.
Okay.
Very good.
You want to fly?
Oh, you love me. I love you.
>> [music] [music] >> For the first time in 39 years, our family is headed to two separate stores.
I couldn't be more excited.
I am so proud of my son. How are you, Dad? How are you? How are you? How are you? Good, brother? Hey. Our future [music] is bright.
Hey.
Hello. Hello. Coffee?
Say thank you very [music] much.
>> Oh, you too.
This is such an exciting time. I'm so proud of my family.
But now, we have two stores that needs to be successful.
I tell my kids to work hard, be honest, and leave everything in God's hands.
Our first day?
I have butterflies. I literally have butterflies right now. I guess that's how Mom and Dad kind of felt like, right? When they were opening?
I wonder if it was busy for them on their very first day of opening.
Do you remember when we opened in 1985?
We both put in long Both of us used to work day and night. Day and night. No children. So, we are back to same place.
40 year I'm standing here.
What's our future is now?
Nowadays, we are noticing neighborhood is changing, also.
It's not same anymore. A lot of new stores comes in.
A lot of old stores are going out. And even people are changing.
So, we have to change with the time or we're left behind.
It's a new chapter, okay?
Yet to be written.
Babe.
What are you so busy with?
Are you spying on Mom and Dad? I wouldn't call it spying. I tell them you're spying on Mom and Dad. No, I'm just making sure everything is okay at the store. Are you missing Mom and Dad?
It's just weird not being there. It's like that's like home.
Babe, you miss them and that's okay. I feel like I should be there.
Look at Mom. Are they looking at us right now? Hello, hello, let's test it out. Let's wave. [music] Okay.
Hello.
They're waving back.
>> [laughter] >> Oh my, Chandan. You call them a call.
I'll go get ready and you call them.
Okay. Hi, Chandan.
I see you, Mom.
>> [laughter] >> I see you, too.
I miss you, Chandan. I miss you guys, [music] too. It's one tree and two different branches.
That's right. Right?
>> soon we'll have more branches. As long as my birds come back home.
>> [music] >> Always, Mom. We never left. We're just We're building our tree house. That's right.
>> Putting it together. Yeah.
Everything about opening day, it's emotional. But right now, there's just no time to think about it.
>> [music] >> Instead of just hoping for customers to come in, we've planned a huge marquee event to get customers through the door.
>> [music] >> Hey guys, we are at Chandan Heritage, our brand new store.
>> [music] >> And we are super excited to be hosting a singles event with Sima Taparia. Sima is a massive TV [music] celebrity matchmaker. With such a big following, it's no surprise that this event sold out. Ladies and gentlemen, how are we doing? Are we feeling good? Make some noise if you're excited.
Welcome, Sima Taparia.
>> [music] >> I'm Sima TAPARIA FROM MUMBAI.
>> [cheering] >> SO first of all, I just really wanted to thank Chandan Fashion. Make some noise again for them for the venue.
>> [applause] >> And I believe if you find a husband or wife here, like maybe 5% off on your wedding outfits.
>> it should be more than that. I wanted to do more, but then Cookie Uncle's watching me and he's always giving me like a hey, so I Dad, can you cover your ears for a second?
Amazing. Okay, and if anyone wants some help in the love department here, what's your best advice? I mean, my advice to the youngsters is that you have to have patience. And when you choose your partner, don't be picky.
>> [cheering] >> Ladies, you look like you're ready to get married.
Marriage proposal here.
>> [laughter] >> He's after for long time.
>> [laughter] [laughter] >> We're getting a fellow lined up here. I hope you're single. [music] If you came here with your spouse, you're in the wrong line. If any of these men belong to you, we will make sure they're punished.
And then my single ladies >> Nikita, come here. Let's do a quick rapid fire. English or Hindi? Hindi.
>> English.
Bollywood Hollywood? Bollywood.
Canada or India?
Canada.
What do you think of this match? 86.
Yeah, it'll be a good match. There you go. Was the matchmaking a success? I think now it's time to get to work.
It's a pretty good deal. You find a husband and you might get a sari or two with it.
This has you written all over it. I'm so excited. Okay, look.
So many people These are potential clients. Yes, I know, right?
Chandan is very smart. I have a beautiful black sari that I think could be perfect for you.
Getting customer for the future.
That's like cookie marketing. So, you have good opportunity now. It's time for you to get appointments.
>> [laughter] >> Okay.
It was a good turnout, right, Dad? So many people coming. I'm so proud of them. I know Chandan marketing more strong now. I have to record [music] this for Chandan.
>> [laughter] >> So, now that the second location is finally open, I've decided it's time to talk about the next steps for the downtown location. Roop and I have an exciting surprise for you guys.
Surprise!
I love the surprises. I know you do.
Like my pink Arby.
>> [laughter] >> You bring the new dough? I don't know, maybe. Oh my god.
>> If you know, then it's not a surprise.
That's not how it works. Roop and I have been working on our dream fashion line for a few months now. So this is raw silk. And this is something that we've >> [music] >> always dreamt about to create those beautiful fusion pieces that no one else has. And I know this fabric we can get overnight. So [music] now we're just so excited to reveal the prototypes for our fashion line to the entire family. So I really need everybody to be at the flagship store this Friday 7:00. All right.
>> And you can't be late, okay? 7:00, okay, we are ready. Thank you.
Look, that's new, [music] eh? Isn't it charming? I know, Mom.
It's easy to see a lot of changes are happening to Little India. Lots of shops that Lots of changes. Lots of new businesses.
>> [music] >> Oh wow, for lease. I wonder what happened here. It just says that they're closed after all these years and they're thanking the entire community.
A lot of South Asian businesses have left the area, but that means a lot of new folks are coming in. It's expanding.
Closing and expanding, part of business, right? It is. And part of life. As a family, we should follow the demand of the community and now we have to make changes to stay ahead.
Big town, what up?
So we've got our first [music] ever client bookings for the second location and now we just need them to show up.
You know, it's been a good start, but I hope that's not just like the grand opening buzz and then it slows down, you know?
>> in the pan. I hear you. Is this going to be consistent? We have to prove ourselves. I know Mom and Dad are super proud, but we need to deliver now [music] more than ever.
Every store can close, but we are open.
Sometime is quiet. You wait for the customer, but I have lots of time and patience. [music] And I give to the customer discount price because we have to keep moving forward.
Oh.
Oh, lucky boy. Love it. Looks good on you. Very pretty. He's wearing kurta.
Okay. And nice [music] pajama. Yeah. How do you like it? I look like a king and feel like a king. You look good. I think it's a beautiful combination with a peach lehenga. It's so comfortable unlike most of the other stuff I've worn.
How about that with this one? Not too matching? Not too matching. It's slightly different. How about this one matching?
Yeah, that looks good. Look, he's Daddy cool.
It's good. How do you like this? You look royal. Okay.
I like the pink. It's a very very elegant piece. It's amazing. I'm sold.
Yeah, that's it. Everything is done now?
Now I do little dance with the Daddy here everybody, okay?
>> [snorts] >> One thing is always two.
>> [laughter] >> Yes. I know how to get the customer.
Absolutely.
Hi, welcome to Chandan Heritage. [music] We met before, right? Yeah, my sister actually got her outfit from the downtown location.
>> Oh my gosh.
>> Are you getting married now? Yeah, I'm getting married.
Okay, I'm so thrilled the first client showed up. What do you think of this? It would really make a splash. I love it. I think the changing room is ready.
And soon we have more clients than we can handle.
Hi, welcome. Come on in. It's so pretty.
So that's the bottom of it. It was really [music] pretty. Wow. This one's beautiful. So we called Johnny in for backup. I really like this how it has the pops of color. That's right.
>> Wow.
Oh my gosh, I'm speechless. You're so beautiful.
Wow.
Beautiful. So pretty. It is, it's gorgeous. Oh my god, you look amazing.
I'm speechless. This is the one. She looks like an Indian princess and it feels good.
Oh my goodness.
So, that's when you know that this is it. This is the one. Where is Cookie, that vibrant guy from Gerard Street, you know? Dad is holding down the fort, but I like to think we have Cookie 2.0 here.
What do you guys think?
You look amazing. [music] >> [laughter] >> You look too. I wish we could get married right over here.
This is the first [music] couple we have outfitted together in this new store.
I'm so glad we came here. What took you guys so long to open here?
Uh it's a long story. Thank you so much for trusting us with your big day. Here it is, your wedding outfit.
Wow. What a day. What an incredibly crazy day. We did it. The future [music] is bright.
>> [music] >> Hey mother. Hey uncle, how are you?
Looking sharp.
You don't remember me? Who is uh Mom used to run the jewelry store over there. Shabana.
Shabana gave it to her.
Really? Yes. Oh, you didn't open up over here in Mississauga, no? Exactly. I wore knee like this >> [laughter] >> and you haven't changed one bit. Oh, it looks You look amazing. But, how's the area cuz I know the area has been really Some people changing that that one too.
What if I tell you I have a plan? He knows the area and he wants something here. So, I'm like, "You know what? Let me go talk to Mr. Singh." So, I just want to show you something.
Don't need to tell me now, but all you need to know is you're sitting on a goldmine. Would that make you feel like you want to retire or what? You can go travel. Aruba, India, wherever you want to go.
But, that's up to the big boss, Mr. Singh. Mr. Singh and Mrs. Singh.
>> And Mrs. Singh. Oh, I'm really sorry.
>> [laughter] >> I'm going to get a big topper out.
I'm going to leave that with you. You talk to her. I will tell you. You call me, okay? I'll see you soon, okay, buddy? Okay.
There you are. Hey, looking for you everywhere. Keep your day.
Time go fast. What do you need to tell me today?
Why so serious? Today you're in a pretty serious mood. I'm surprised. I have a some person he like to buy my property.
The store?
And? Yeah, this guy give me a good offer. This offer more than okay.
Without thinking, more than. Oh, yeah.
That good. Now I understand why you're in such deep thought.
You worked hard. I mean, if you feel you can you want to just take it easy now.
I understand.
You know you're still young, Dad.
No, how can you sell that? This is your baby.
I have too much think about it, okay.
How do you think that's going to go, dad?
I know how to bring the bee. More honey, more money. Hey guys, is Honey Bunny okay? Yeah.
>> Yeah. Can I steal my parents for just like 2 minutes [music] and I'll get someone else to help you? Sure. I'm nervous.
>> I know, I can tell. Sorry for the clammy [laughter] hands.
Guys, I got him. You better be ready.
[music] You know how hard it is to pull him away from a customer. So, you guys know that we have been working on our dream fashion line and it's finally ready. Mom, you've inspired this line.
So, I really hope you love everything that we've created today. We're hoping this fashion line attracts new customers to the store. Please keep in mind these are prototypes, so they're meant to serve as examples of the line that we're going to launch. Please show me the fashions now. Okay, are you ready for the first ever fashion show in Chandni Boutique? Oh my god, I love it.
Holy, and this is just a prototype?
>> This is a prototype.
>> Look how heavy it is. It's extremely intricate and high-end and it's for that client who wants to push the envelope.
They don't want the traditional lengha silhouette.
>> You got to look at the pearl work and sequence and stone work, too. Everything is in here. I never see before that is heavy stuff. It works with a western client, it works with our eastern clients. I think it's a hit. We tried to make each piece a statement piece in its own so that you can mix and match. Wow, look at that.
I just love it.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, I love them. It's a modern Indian bride. There we go, that's exactly it. We're having clients asking for something outside of the box. We thought why not take it high end, couture? This is very couture, and [music] those are big crystals.
>> It's definitely got the bling factor, the tassels. You have a wonderful job, this one. I can't wait to see your next >> Bring it on. Bring it on. Who doesn't love a midi dress? [music] Wow. Oh my god. I love the work on this one. The details show how much thought and effort you have put into this look. We want anyone and everyone to be wearing South Asian fashion >> [music] >> anywhere. My god, what a job they've done, these guys. Beautiful. We do pantsuits all the time, but we only do it for our male clients. [music] Why?
Oh, I love it. That's the people wanted.
That is a lewk. That is a lewk, l-e-w-k.
[music] They both are very, very chic and edgy and modern. I really see this being the next wave of where South Asian fashion is going. I want to sell [music] it in my store.
That's the ultimate stamp of approval.
I don't know. I think it belongs at the Heritage store. Let's see a bidding war possibility here. In the meantime, we have Chandan Fashion, we have Chandan Heritage. It's such a strong, beautiful brand, Mom and Dad, you've created here, that we wanted to continue it. With that being said, the new line will be called Chandan Couture. Oh.
Good.
You like it?
Okay. I just don't like [laughter] it.
I'm so proud of my daughters, Chandni and Roop. Chandan completed Dad's dream, [music] and you guys completed my dream.
I'm proud of you both.
Hi, guys.
Dad's got us all together to talk about the offer to sell the flagship store.
Brave man. Guess what?
We got an offer on the place. On what place?
>> Wait, what? On this place. Isn't that crazy? But even just the thought of can we even sell? Like that's never even crossed any of our minds. No, no, no.
>> in a hypothetical situation. But take a look at the offer.
>> Never.
It's It doesn't It could be that times 10. I don't think it's even on the table.
>> Yeah, see? He is right.
Now, neighborhood is changing, but still my home.
Tell him I'm not going to sell it as long as I'm alive. Are you kidding? I'm going to keep this store for my next generation. Chandan's children, Chandni's children. They will take care of this store even though we won't be alive.
You guys want it? Good job. That answers that. All right, next topic.
>> [laughter] >> We need some family time together. Aw.
Done? You proposed to Mom, but have we set a wedding date?
Aw.
You married me?
Of course. Aw.
We're going to India.
That's good.
On that note, I have a a big surprise.
Just to say?
No. What?
>> We're going to India together. All of us? All of us.
We've been talking about this for years.
Daddy built up dream for our family in about He also [music] left his dad, right? He came here and he had his own family with us.
>> [snorts] >> Daddy up in the car like he done it, up in the Cookie Silk Store to like he done it, right?
Your grandfather's store. Going to where it all started. [music] Cookie Silk Store, Phagwara, Punjab in India.
To know the future, you must know the past. Can't wait to see it, Dad.
Wait till you see him in India.
Everybody knows Cookie. Everybody. Okay, you just got me [music] that much more excited for this trip. Yay! This is so exciting. So much to do. We can plan our fashion lines together. We got to start packing. I got to book a fashion week.
Are you going to find a pink [music] plane? Pink plane.
I do 40 elephants, 40 horse, 40 drum dolls.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, yes. Let's go everybody in India.
>> [music] [music] [music]
