Political accountability often depends on the context and perceived fairness of decisions rather than their legal authority; when Governor Jared Polis commuted Tina Peters' sentence (a 70-year-old grandmother with no prior record), his own Democratic Party censored him with 90% approval, yet they remained silent when he commuted a violent criminal's sentence on the same day, demonstrating how political outrage is selectively applied based on public perception of justice.

They Censured Their Own Governor Over Tina Peters — But Stayed Silent About ThisAdded:
In case you haven't heard, Governor Jared Polus cut Tina Peter's sentence in half, and now his own party has officially centured him. The Colorado Court of Appeals even agreed her sentence was too harsh, saying it was partially based on her protected free speech rights. Pulis agreed, so he let her out. And now the Democratic Party has completely lost their minds. Nearly 600 members signed a petition. They held an emergency meeting last night and they voted with 90% approval to formally punish their own governor for showing mercy to a 70-year-old gold star grandma with no previous record. They banned him from party events. Senator Michael Bennett called the move disqualifying, referring to Polus potentially being appointed to Senate if Bennett wins the governor seat in November. Some even want him impeached over a clemency decision that is completely 100% within his legal authority. But here's the part almost nobody is talking about. Don't give Polus too much credit yet. On the exact same day Pis commuted Tina Peter sentence, he also granted clemency to a man convicted in a violent 2008 crime spree. kidnapping, robbery, a Douglas County deputy shot and permanently injured and he was sentenced to 50 years. That commutation crickets from the Democratic party. No outrage from party leaders, no censure campaign, no signature drive, no impeachment calls, nothing. Pulis says he stands by the Tina Peters decision.
He says the sentence was unfair, politically motivated, and that quote, "History will remember this fondly." And meanwhile, just to add more flame to the fire, Vice President Vance is now saying Tina Peters deserves compensation under a new federal anti-weaponization fund.
