Now we begin with in India, where a brutal heatwave is tightening its grip across the northern region with Delhi recording its warmest May 9th in 14 years. Now the India Meteorological Department has issued orange and red alerts across several states warning of severe heatwave conditions over the next few days. From Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, temperatures are soaring past 45° C while some parts of the country are also bracing for heavy rainfall. Now Delhiites are struggling through scorching days and now sweltering nights as well. The national capital recorded its warmest May 9th in 14 years with the minimum temperature staying near 32° C.
The India Met Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi NCR. The of course warning that daytime temperatures can touch 44 to 46° C in the coming days. Severe heatwave conditions are also sweeping across Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has issued a red alert for multiple districts including Banda, Jhansi, Agra, and Prayagraj, where temperatures have crossed 48° C.
Authorities have advised people to avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours as hot winds and extreme heat raise the risk of heatstroke and dehydration. The IMD says that there is likely to be no significant drop in temperatures until at least 27th of May with the heatwave to severe heatwave conditions expected to continue across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, and parts of central India. Now even as north India bakes under extreme heat, other regions are facing a different weather threat. The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Bihar along with rain and thunderstorm activity in parts of eastern hilly states including Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Now with millions affected by this extreme weather swing, authorities remain on high alert as India faces one of its harshest heat spells of the season.
