This weather forecast from WPRI 12 Meteorologist Catie McNeil explains that Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts are transitioning from a recent widespread rain event (with some areas receiving over 1.7 inches) to a drier, warmer trend. The forecast predicts cooler temperatures and foggy conditions overnight, followed by much warmer and drier weather on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 80s, as high pressure systems move in and cloud cover diminishes.

WPRI 12 Weather Forecast 5/25/26Hinzugefügt:
joins [music] us once again. Katie, it's beautiful outside right now. If people have been inside most of the day, they should get out and enjoy it while they can.
>> I know. We wish it could have come a little bit sooner. We were holding on to that rain, unfortunately, throughout the morning as well. But yeah, now seeing some sunshine out there. And luckily, that trend is set to continue through the next few days, a lot warmer as well for your Tuesday and Wednesday. Let's take a look outside right now. Live cam in Providence at the Hurricane Barrier.
You can see that sunshine now starting to work its way in. Still some cloud cover, but those showers have now moved offshore, leading the way to a much drier trend the next several days. Not looking at a really widespread rain here through much of the uh the rest of this week. Temperatures right now a lot more comfortable today as well. It was very cool yesterday on Sunday. Today, temperatures in the 70s, a little bit cooler down towards the immediate coastline. Those 63 in Newport cooler there. Providence at 75, Smithfield right now at 73. You also may have noticed a bit more humid today. And that's cuz those dew points in the upper 50s, lower 60s. Not as oppressive as what we'll see later on this summer, but certainly a little bit muggy out there throughout the day. So with that, let's take a look as well at the rainfall totals we received within the last 48 hours. A long widespread rain event.
Some spots almost got 2 inches of rainfall. Wickford saw over 1.7 inches.
A lot of other reports of over an inch of rain across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. So with that, we're going to be seeing those cooler temperatures, a little bit muggy as well through the rest this evening and overnight with areas of fog moving in. Some of that, especially down towards the coast, could be on the denser side. We'll be monitoring that, maybe some visibility issues later on this evening. As I mentioned, we'll be much warmer the next 2 days, Tuesday and Wednesday looking very comfortable with highs back into the 80s. And we'll be mainly dry as well through at least Friday. Although we are tracking a couple of chances maybe Wednesday and Thursday, for a late-day shower or thunderstorm, but many areas should stay dry throughout that time frame as well.
So, with that, temperatures very comfortable again, warm Tuesday, Wednesday, back into the 80s, feeling a little bit more like summer. And even beyond that, we'll start to cool down towards the weekend, but still fairly seasonable in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Satellite and radar, we're seeing those clouds starting to pull away.
We may see a partial covering of clouds as we head towards the overnight, as well as those visibility issues due to fog, but overall, that cloud cover is going to diminish as our system moves offshore, and high pressure starts to settle in, bringing some much nicer weather in the next couple of days. So, taking a look Tuesday here, early in the morning, we could see some lingering fog to start, but then that sunshine will prevail through the rest of the day, much warmer as well, highs in the lower 80s, and a really nice rest of the day, really no issues for Tuesday, a very nice day to get outside. We could see some fog redeveloping overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Wednesday through much of the day looks fine as well. We may see a little bit more in the way of clouds, as well as that chance for a late-day shower, but very pleasant once again, with those highs even a little bit warmer in the mid-80s. So, with that, Tuesday morning, we could see some patchy fog early to start, but that kind of dissipating, breaking up, or burning off as we continue on throughout the day, staying much warmer as well Wednesday, with those highs approaching the mid-80s. So, really nice next couple of days. Rest of the week doesn't look too bad as well, highs in the lower 70s for Thursday and Friday. That looks like summer right there. Yeah, kind of just missed the timing, but uh still good opportunities to get outside in the next couple of days.
>> All right, Katie, thank you. Coming up next,
