Weather forecasting involves analyzing cloud formations, temperature gradients, and atmospheric systems to predict regional weather patterns, including temperature variations across different areas (such as 20s in southern Maine versus 50s in central Maine), precipitation timing and intensity, and seasonal weather transitions.

You said it would get chilly overnight.
>> Mhm. It's still it's still hard to take when you wake up early enough in the morning and you're like, "Oh, it's brisk out."
>> Yeah, there were 20s even in southern Maine.
>> Wow.
>> know Sanford and Lewiston I think got down to 29 or something like that. So, that's pretty impressive for this time of the year.
>> I was going to say that's unusual for this time of year, right?
>> definitely. And it's still kind of cool out there now. Uh but I like where we're heading for the weekend. Great.
>> Just hang in there.
>> [laughter] >> A live look right now out over the uh Penobscot Narrows Bridge. Shows kind of a patchwork sky. We have some clouds with a little blue in between, but none of these clouds are growing particularly tall. They're kind of flat. And for that reason, we don't think there's really any rain this afternoon. Maybe there's a stray sprinkle, but that would be it.
Temperatures right now generally between 50 and 55 in central and southern Maine.
We have 40s up north. There's just a light breeze out there right now. But there's all the cloudiness that's popped up over the last few hours and that will be with us through the afternoon. So, clouds with sometimes of sun in between.
This storm system back to the west is what will bring showers that develop through the day tomorrow.
So, here's 3:00 this afternoon. Partly to at times mostly cloudy. Temps get close to 60 in southern Maine, 50s in most other places. And again, not too much wind, a little bit of a breeze.
This evening, we start to clear things out. Should have a nice sunset again tonight. You might have caught the one last evening. It was pretty nice. But then by tomorrow morning, clouds are coming in from the west and it is going to be a chilly start to the day especially in eastern and northern Maine. That's where there could be some frost. To the south though, with the clouds coming in, not going to be quite as chilly tomorrow morning. But we do have a dry start to the day. Showers may develop as soon as about 10:00 in the morning over southwestern Maine, just a stray one. But most places are dry through at least noon time. Your best and brightest weather will be in eastern and northern Maine tomorrow. While to the south it gets cloudy and damp first.
This is 2:00 with some showers passing through. It's really not going to be anything heavier though than some showers and they're not going to last all afternoon and all evening. In fact, there may be a few dry periods that work in during the evening as more of the showers move to the north tomorrow. But plan on kind of a damp and cool afternoon. High temperatures only in the lower half of the 50s for most. Some of the warmest weather tomorrow will be where the sun is out the longest and that's Houlton and Calais where we get into the low 60s.
So this low goes by to our south and just kind of slowly moves, but it looks like another one forms way offshore which robs some of the moisture from it.
So on Thursday we're just looking at some showers, maybe a period of some steadier rain Thursday night into Friday morning and then we should start to improve things as we head into the weekend. We should shift this out of here and start to warm up. Continues to look like the most rain through this stretch will probably fall in southern Maine and inch or more possible.
Northern and eastern Maine lesser amounts, probably less than a half an inch up that way. Seas two to four feet this afternoon. Northwesterly winds five to 15 knots on the water. So sun and clouds out there today upper 50s to near 60. Cloudy with showers tomorrow afternoon and then it's mostly cloudy if not overcast Thursday and Friday with showers around. But we think we turn the weather around over the weekend. You can make the argument there could be a shower Saturday evening or Saturday night, maybe one on Sunday, but it looks partly sunny, warmer. Temps could be up near 70 over the weekend. That'll feel great.
>> That'll be quite the change.
>> All right, Ryan. Thank you.
