Stationary thunderstorms that move extremely slowly or remain in one location create significant flash flooding risks because heavy rainfall accumulates in the same areas without dispersing, requiring weather monitoring and preparedness even when current conditions appear sunny.

Hannah Skye's midday weatherAñadido:
All right, as we are talking weather now and switching gears, things are starting to change out there and Hannah is monitoring the radar where she's also watching some thunderstorms that have popped up. Hannah >> Yes, I am LaTrice. We got some thunderstorm activity moving in. So, this is kind of moving farther out just to the west of Chattanooga. You can see over there by Ladd's and Coal City and portions of Tennessee and North Georgia.
This is Dade Dade County right there as well as Marion. A little thunderstorm starting to pop up. Now, this has got some heavy rainfall as well as lightning. Not severe right now, but it does have a little bit of a hail history to it. So, we'll be watching that one.
That one could be is looking like it's getting a little on the stronger side.
some lightning. You might be hearing some of that thunder here in Chattanooga. If you're a little farther over to the east of this system moving in. So, that's what we got going just to the west of Chattanooga. Bring us down farther to the south portions of of North Alabama and then North Georgia here. We got a little bit of pops wanting to move in over by by Henagar and Brooks Crossroads and as well as over by Battelle and Sulphur Spring Station here right along the Georgia-Alabama state line. Again, nothing severe so far, but these storms are starting to initiate. They bring very heavy rainfall in their wake and moving extremely slowly. These are basically stationary storms. So, we're going to be watching out for the heavy rainfall rates, the possibility of some excessive rainfall, and maybe even some gusty winds. Might even see a severe thunderstorm or two, but we also got some pops here over to the north portions just between Dunlap and Kegel and then leading up into the Sequatchie Valley. Not super widespread right now, but that's just a taste of what's going to come as we get more rainfall moving in and more widespread showers. We got a marginal level one out of five risk for severe weather in the green farther to the north. The rest of us here in the lime green, mostly just a chance for some thunderstorms that'll stay below severe thunderstorm limits. We'll be keeping an eye on everything in all of our viewing area. Today, excessive rainfall threat is for the entire region, so keep an eye on that. You know, we'll be watching the thunderstorms since they are going to be moving so slowly that increases our risk for flash flooding. High temperatures upper 80s, less of a chance to get into the lower 90s, especially if we get a thunderstorm moving through, that's going to cool us down a little bit.
Muggy meter still sitting up there in the very muggy 70s. Let's take a look at the future cast. So, right now model's not initiating amazingly right now with the current situation, but overall showing a good trend of that was a stationary front moving through. Slow moving system, this is going to be off and on showers. Slow moving showers all the way into your evening and overnight tonight. Starting to die down a little bit, picking back up heading into your Thursday afternoon.
This is going to copy paste and repeat heading into the Memorial Day weekend and Memorial Day Monday. Now, it's not going to be raining for everyone all at once and it's not going to be a washout conditions for the entire time. We will get some sunshine here and there, but keep in mind you're going to want to think about a plan B. Those outdoor activities they might get some rain and thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lots of lightning, gusty winds, as well as some hail. So, keep that in mind. This is Saturday seeing those thunderstorms continuing off and on throughout the rest of the weekend. This is a long range forecast model, basically showing that same story over the next couple of days leading into your Memorial Day Monday. Potential rainfall totals right now, we could see anywhere between one to three isolated areas two to four locally higher amounts of rainfall. Much needed, but there's such a thing as too much of a good thing all at once. So, we are going to be watching out for the possibility of some flash flooding. Storms are already beginning to pop, even though it might be nice and sunny where you are right now, you're going to want to stay weather aware cuz a pop-up thunderstorm could pack a bit of a punch. Back to you.
