[00:00:00]If you're interested in the intersection between art and activism, then I have a book for you. This is Art of Protest.

[00:00:06]It's basically a collection of different protest posters throughout history and really highlights how pivotal art has been to different social movements through time. And this is episode 3 where I talk about some of the protest posters from this book that I think are really cool and I think that you should know about, too. The reason that I like this one is just cuz I think it's kind of funny. I think it's clever. At the top it says, "Unfortunately, history has set the record a little too straight."

[00:00:27]This one is from the US. It's from 1988.

[00:00:30]And the point behind this one is that it depicts 10 different really prominent figures in history whose sexual orientation was omitted or erased from history books. This poster was produced by the Gay and Lesbian Community Action Council, which is now called OutFront Minnesota for the National Coming Out Day in 1988. And the point of this organization and the point of this event was to build on the principle that the most important thing that you could do was to live openly as a gay or lesbian person at the time. And this really speaks to this sort of pillar, I think, of protest art where it's just about existence and identity as a form of resistance and taking up space in areas that you've been traditionally excluded from.
