[00:03:09]Right people. So here I am in Jerint Abbey. Wow. This looks amazing people. I have to say this looks amazing. Stay tuned, people. I've got a half an hour, less than half an hour to look at it. Um, look at this, people. Wow. My god.

[00:03:36]Imagine what this would have been like way back when it had the proper roofing and everything. This [music] is amazing.

[00:04:32]And look, see along here, this would mean the walk around like what called it the cloister or something, right? and where the monks would walk around in prayer and meditation and stuff. [00:04:56]Yeah. See, up here people would have been roofed and it would have been a kind of whole rectangle and they'd walk around. But look, look at the carvings on the stone here. Look of the monks.

And then you have this part here is another one part. One part of a stone all carved out. And another stone. And that one part. And that's one part. And that corresponds with this. And this corresponds with this.

[00:10:09][sighs and gasps] The workmanship. I just stonewalk from that period way back just blows my mind away. You you don't get this anymore. Maybe it's too expensive to do or something, but [music] it's just incredible workmanship, I have to say. Look.

[00:10:32][music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> right people, look at this tomb here. I think it's called the Weeper's tomb or something, but look at the images that's carved out. There was this was this was carved out in the 16th century by an Irish sculpture. I'll put his name up, right? But the first the first one here is um St. Peter and he's holding the keys to heaven. Right. The middle one here is of uh St. Andrew who is the patron saint of Scotland. And this I think is of St. Matthew. Okay. This man, right? And then you come around the corner here and you have and people this man here holding the chalice is St. John, right? And I think the guy here with the spear is St. St. Thomas, right? And people, this guy here holding his saw is St. Simon, right?

[00:11:47]And people, this man here is holding the folds of his own skin is St. Bartholomew, right? And people, this man here holding the sword is St. Paul. And this man here is St. Matthew. Amazing, isn't it? People unbelievable. Hello.

[00:12:13]It's pity. Uh the man from [clears throat] the the OPW says this is going back to 1160, right? And I was telling them that I I'm from down here based in the county me and that in county allowed not far from me is Melopont Abby. And he says that Metapont Abby in its day was a bigger than here bigger. He says this this one is just is more intact. That's why it's so impressive. Right. But it's an amazing people, isn't it? Like you know going back to that time period, you know they they built these before televisions, smartphones, GoPros, people. I'm just going to walk down the road here cuz I seen a little house down here that I think looks impressive. Um, so we'll have a little wander down here. We'll have a look at it. Right. If you look at this two-story house across the road here, opposite Jarpoint Abby. Look. Um, wow people. That's a huge twostory like real country farm looking house, isn't it?

[00:13:19]It's fabulous. And they got lovely trees in the back garden here as well. Right.

[00:13:24]Um yeah, people I think this is amazing. You know, I think that man said 1160.

[00:13:38]I'm back to 1160 or people like, you know, like as you're walking along here by this building. I'm just trying to envision being right here in 1160. And you know, there was a time period called 1160, right? But then to be actually outside a building, that's it's not it's not like a madeup 1160, if you know what I mean, time. It's real.

[00:14:04]Look, you're looking at something something that's real. And still standing there apart from the roof, right? You're not in the car. Jesus Christ.

[00:14:17]Right. So, let's go over here. People look like people look see this kind of pillar part here. Look the stonework here.

[00:14:36]If if that man is correct and there was nothing else built on here, that means that this pillar of this building is here since 1160. Right? That's incredible, isn't it? Right, people? I'm going over here cuz this a little cottage here that looks so cool, right?

[00:14:53]And um yeah, I have to investigate this people.

[00:15:22]Wow. Isn't that fabulous? Isn't it?

[00:15:25]Look, an old Irish cottage. Look. And look on on the door. It's saying Margaret Woods, 1901 to 1988.

[00:15:36]Right. Obviously lived in there, right?

[00:15:39]I don't know. Does that mean she was somebody famous or just that she was a local person that lived here that long?

[00:15:46]Right. And over here there's a stone plaque on the wall saying to I don't know something oen John O'Brien uh 1981. And look at the small little upstairs that was on the house. Look, see that there? Look, and look at the way the roof is kind of, you know, humped up a bit and the the original old slate. But look at the stonework. Look at the old stonework on that on that building, people. This is amazing, isn't it? And look at look at the stonework stone walls and the plants on top of the stone walls.

[00:16:23]And look at this people. Is that a road dendron there? I don't Maybe it is, but look at the roses around the front door.

[00:16:28]Oh wow people. That is amazing.

[00:16:42]Isn't it super cool, isn't it? And look people, the gutters and the downpipe and the barrel here. Look to collect the rainwater.

[00:16:52]Oh, and the small windows. Oh, that's that's real. That's old Ireland people you're looking at there, you know. And then that building right beside it that's come back to 1160. Incredible people. Isn't it fantastic? Isn't it?

[00:17:19]Look that is so cool. An old Irish stone cottage people. Amazing. And the downpipe again and the barrel to collect the water, the rainwater.

[00:17:35]Beautiful. And look at this plant people on top of the wall here just about coming into flower. Look. Oh, that's incredible. I'm just wondering does the OPW, which is the Office of Public Works, look after this building here as well. It probably does. People look at the tower there. Look at that tower that Abby. Look at it. It's just out of this wall stuff.

[00:18:00]Ah, absolutely amazing people. It's amazing.

[00:18:13]Right. This national monument is in the care of the commissioners of public works for the state under the provisions of the national monuments acts. The public are requested to aid the commissioners in preserving it. Injury or defacement is severely punishable by law and rightly so people because it's just fantastic.

[00:18:38]I'd love now to go to England and you'd have buildings like this in England that with the roofs and everything on them, you know what I mean? Um but uh yeah, very very impressed. I am definitely people if you're a tourist in Ireland, make it your business to visit Jarpoint Abbey. You won't be disappointed for sure. It's very, very impressive. Better be careful here. People in the corner of the road. Look, cars coming around.

[00:19:12]Yeah. You know, it's just mad. It's just mad to think that it's here since 1170 and it's still here. It's it's it's a reminder of a time period back then. Do you know what I mean?

[00:19:27]I just find that absolutely amazing. I do. I know I keep saying amazing, but I just can't help myself. I just get blown away by that. And the workmanship, people like, where are you going to get that kind of workmanship now? You just you just don't get it anymore.

[00:19:42]I'm not saying they wouldn't be capable of doing it. Of course they would. But maybe it's just the expense of building buildings like this now or something.

[00:19:49]thing. I don't know. Um, yeah. Look at the wall here with the the moss and the stuff growing out of it. Look.

[00:20:02]You know, this is this is in County County Kilkenny, people. You know, um, yeah, people listen, do you know what I'm going to do? I know this is a short and sweet video and I haven't given you this much information about it, right? But at least just know know it and it's can come and visit it, right? And then it's after half five now. So there there's there's always someone here from the OPW so they they could do a tour. You want to want a tour done and then explain everything about that building to you. Right. But put on your bucket list if you're in Ireland. It's well worth a visit. Right people.
