[00:00:04]This is actually my second live. The first live was actually on my channel that I sort of started um just for fun uh before well actually it was after this one. And so I'm a dope and I didn't look. And so now we're going to do fix my crazy hair. We're going to do one here. And so what I want to do um is next time I'm going to do a better job of announcing that I'm going to go live and I want to start doing it weekly so that I can answer any questions that you have u and just be able to comment with you and have fun. Um hey what's up man? How's it going?

[00:00:44]Welcome to the very first live on this channel. And so I'm going to turn the camera around and start just showing off the plants. Um and thanks for joining by the way. very first one. And so what I want to do is just kind of look at the election and then talk about it um and answer any kind of questions you have and also just just get to hang out with you guys. Um so this is all new to me.

[00:01:05]So this is interesting. But um the funny thing is right before you came on there, I was just saying how I accidentally started the live on another vlog. It did 30 minutes before I realized it was on the wrong YouTube channel, which is ridiculous. But, um, here are the fly traps. Let's see how they're doing. Um, this one right here got a big old helping. Look at that thing. Of course, leaving it there. Obviously, it doesn't have a choice, but maybe looking out for a spider to come along. Here's our crazy one that's still very much a fused, too. Got that one from Walmart.

[00:01:46]So, that's pretty nuts, right?

[00:01:48]And then this one is very surprising. I The size doesn't really come through on the camera, but this thing was a um a rescue about two growing seasons ago, and it wasn't it was okay, but this thing is enormous. So, I don't know if they used a cultivar for like a tissue culture for like a King Henry or a DCXL.

[00:02:12]Absolutely no way of being able to find out. But this thing is huge. I mean, those traps are the very first ones of the spring, and they're probably every bit of an inch and a half, maybe, maybe bigger. And the celia is enormous. Look how long that is compared to like some of the others. Pretty amazing.

[00:02:34]But yeah, I'm just really fun. Here's Rosa giggi.

[00:02:38]Um, if anybody is not familiar with that, it's a really wonky uh Venus fly trap that has these short little psyia, but the plant itself gets enormous. I mean, this plant will get a foot and a half, two feet in diameter, and the pedals get very long, up to almost a foot long, and they um the traps get enormous. So, right now, they're not too big, but they can easily go over 2 in.

[00:03:05]Here is uh St. Patrick's beard. And for those who don't know, St. Patrick's beard is a cultivar that produces these short little fuzzy green shraps. It's completely healthy and normal, but it looks like a beard and it's green and so St. Patrick's beard, but it doesn't do it all the time. It's not necessarily a stable clone, but it's pretty cool. And for those who don't know, cultivars are so there's only one Venus fly trap, one type of Venus fly trap that grows in the wild and it is on the coast of North and South Carolina and the pine barons rather, not the coast. Um, but what's really cool about it is through breeding and all sorts of other things, they end up developing all different types of weird mutations and and different breedings and those became become cult um cultural variants or cultivars.

[00:03:56]Pretty cool stuff. Here's one that I got a while ago. This is probably my oldest Venus fly trap, believe it or not. And its spring traps aren't all that big, but it's fall traps get huge, and it turns bright cherry red. Pretty cool.

[00:04:11]Pretty cool. Let's see what else we got.

[00:04:16]Here is some more. These are actually the newest um rescues that I got. These are all from Lowe's. Uh, and what was cool about this one is I actually got a like a huge deal on them. I got like 30 or 40 of them for like 20 bucks cuz they were all almost completely dead. And I was like, I'll just buy the whole box for like I don't even know what it was, maybe 75 cents a plant. And they almost all came back, which is insane. And so that's just how freaking durable these plants are. I hate that people think Venus fly traps so difficult to grow.

[00:04:52]Um, all you need is just a little bit of care, know what you're doing, and you're good to go. Here are the babies. These babies are um probably in 9 months old. Now, Venus fly traps take um about 7 years. Now, if you are have some of these these bigger growers, I can speed them along, but about seven years from germination seedlings all the way to full grown, seven years. Here's the thing I'm most excited about with the Venus fly traps.

[00:05:23]These are all Jeremiah Harris um cultivars that I just acquired not too long ago. And so these are all little tiny offshoots. But we've got big tomato. You know what? Because this is alive, I'll go ahead and go through. Why not? So this is big tomato.

[00:05:40]All of these here are considered giants and will get enormous. So again, big tomato, ginormous from California carnivores, southwest giant, which gets huge. They're all tiny now, but they will get big. This is Dentata A.

[00:06:00]This is A2 clone, which is the sister clone of B-52.

[00:06:06]This is Bimbo, which gets very large, very red traps. This is actually from uh Rainbow Carnivores. This is B-52 by DCXL.

[00:06:18]This is by Rainbow Carnivores. B-52 by Ginormous. This one gets very red traps almost year round.

[00:06:27]This one is UK Sawtooth. Pretty awesome.

[00:06:32]Let's see what else.

[00:06:34]This is Big Jaws by Dentatada.

[00:06:38]This is great white shark.

[00:06:43]Uh, garnet and and burgundy. I believe it is giant burgundy. Excuse me. Pretty awesome. Fang big. Um, oh, big trap. You would think I'd have these memorized by now. Super vigorous, which doesn't necessarily get huge, but it does get pretty good size and it's vigorous.

[00:07:10]Goliath was supposed to be one of the, if not the largest overall plant against fly trap. Jaws, which is a classic.

[00:07:20]This one is an amazing one. Jeremiah Harris talks a lot about it and I thought, you know what? Let me go ahead and get it. This is arching flat skinny leaves. Terrible name, but it is such a fast grower. Um, and it gets very big.

[00:07:38]The traps get big. The plant itself gets big. Remember, these are these ryomes were itty bitty when I got them. And that is okay because he said they would spread fast and they have. Um, this is Dutch Delight.

[00:07:50]This is Kronos.

[00:07:52]I first heard about Kronos from the fly trap store. And truthfully, when I got this thing, I got it from eBay and it was it was in good shape, but it wasn't you could tell it hadn't had a lot of light. And so, um, I've been giving it like the bright light that it wants. And this is its like it I kind of got it mid- growing season last year, so this is its first going in the spring. And this thing is insane. If you can only get one Venus fly trap, make it a Kronos. I mean, this thing is insane. It gets huge. The camera doesn't do it justice. All these traps are pushing 2 in. I mean, they're just big. I mean, and they're beautiful. This plant is extremely easy to grow. It um spreads like crazy. So easy to care for. Get a Kronos Grun bristle or SI15 with those. It's got a little bug in it. SS Crimson Sawtooth.

[00:08:53]This one I knew would be a struggle because of the heat in Florida, but I got it anyways and I'm going to see how it goes. This is Maroon Monster. And as you can see, it's living up to the not liking heat. This one was, I thought, completely dead, but it has come back.

[00:09:10]This is towering giant from Jeremiah Harris, but it was originally from the fly trap store. Um, this is Justina Dave's big, beautiful green cultivar. It just stays all green. And so I'm super excited to see all those grow out.

[00:09:30]Oh, thank you. Thank you. Yeah, I just I can't wait till this whole thing is full and then I want to start taking like offshoots of it and like make, you know, baby plants that I can give away and sell and do all that cool stuff. But I still love um saving Venus fly traps.

[00:09:48]It's like a catch 22, you know, because I I feel like because I'm saving them, um I'm like buying them and which is just going to encourage them to make more, which stinks, but I also just can't walk past them without feeling like guilty. I I don't know. It sucks. Um so I have to buy them. Um and so I made I just made a video how you can get a bunch of them really cheap.

[00:10:13]But look at all these little Sarasinia seedlings, too. So, I went through a phase when I was like, you know, it'd be really cool if everything was just combined. And so, I just kind of toss seedlings here and there, like seeds.

[00:10:25]And now I'm immediately regretting that decision. I like it. I think it's cool looking, blah blah blah, but it's going to it's going to get crazy. Here's that one that was like peach color. It's turning more white now, but pretty neat.

[00:10:40]And then we Let's go over here.

[00:10:44]Here are the sarracinia seedlings like all of these. So, I have a buddy where I can get I get like a ton of seedling from. He's super kind. Love the guy so much. Um and he's been so gracious and and helping me build a Sarasinia collection through seeds. Could not ask for a better friend. Um and so he's helped um make all this happen. And so all these are other than a couple of them are the same age about a year and a half old. Um and as you can see there's a lot of mori a lot of lop which I love a lot of flav or natada sort of none of them are they're all hybrids right they're all open pollinated and so you're going to get all sorts of cool things but I just like this one right here is the one I did a short on the other day. It still won't this thing is pure white. I don't even know if there's any veins, venations happening in it. I mean, it is like ghost white. So, it is itty bitty now, but I can't wait to see what that looks like. Full grown. So excited. And then these are just insane.

[00:11:58]Look, if I can get it to focus. They are so full of like look at that.

[00:12:05]Crazy.

[00:12:07]They're so full of bugs. And one thing they don't tell you, I'll go ahead and say, is when you have a lot of sarcinia that eat really well, when the wind hits just right, you get a a funky a funky smell that coming out of those pitcher plants. And so, um, totally worth it, by the way, though. They're amazing. But they don't really tell you that. I got a I got a weed when I came out here before I started alive, like a 4ft snake come out here.

[00:12:35]Look how cool this is. I love these.

[00:12:39]They've kind of Yeah, it is my very first time being live. I'm doing great, man. Um Yeah, it's ridiculously white, isn't it?

[00:12:51]I can't wait to see what it does. Um it's I I literally cannot find any venation on it. It might just because because it's so small, it might end up producing venation as it gets older. But I mean, you can't even I don't really even know. I mean, I'm not very good with cameras anyways, but I don't even know what you put on there to get that. But these just beautiful little seedlings all through here. I'm going to have to do some serious repotting and dividing uh come next spring, but for now, I will enjoy them as is. Got a little sebulada bloom in there. Little utricular sebulada down there. I love it. Of course, it does produce a ton of these little seed pods. Just go straight to see. I mean, look at them all.

[00:13:41]I don't mind it. It doesn't hurt the plant. I suppose maybe eventually if it got too dense, it could it could hurt the roots, but nah, I don't think so.

[00:13:51]I've got little Venus fly trap seedlings that somehow got in here.

[00:13:58]Um, yeah, just a ton of these mori.

[00:14:03]There's some the mory eyes. This is probably got some flava ornata in it, but who knows, man. They're all open pollinated. So, and admittedly, I think I know enough to get around with Sarasinia, but there are plenty of people out there that, man, they know every hybrid, every make, every model.

[00:14:22]It's crazy. Here are the perparia.

[00:14:31]Yes, man. The drosser will go especially this bananata. I I don't know if you saw the video where like I have I don't even know hundreds of bananata plants and none of them were purposeful. Well, that's not true.

[00:14:48]Probably 50 of them were purposeful and but all from all from about two or three plants. It's insane. Here is perparia.

[00:14:55]Here's a cool one, by the way. If you are uh if you go on Carnival, Carnival is actually offering enormous 8 in pot peria that are completely cut down for $45 and $20 shipping. It's insanity. I mean, this thing had like it it had like I don't know, six or seven growth points on it. Um it was just all trimmed down, right? So, it wasn't much to look at when I got it. As you can see, it's growing out different varieties, but $45 for an 8 in perpia, and it would have filled up an 8 in pot completely is insane. And if I had the money, I would buy all of them. Um, you can't beat that. I love perparia.

[00:15:39]But, um, yeah, if you are interested, Carnavo right now has them on their website. It's amazing.

[00:15:47]This one looks like crap right now, but this is one of the most beautiful.

[00:15:55]Yeah.

[00:15:57]Yeah. It's crazy. Well, here in Florida, they don't get much of a choice. It It goes from uh I think I would call it this I don't know if this is a coin term, but I'd call it a soft dormcancy.

[00:16:08]Um nothing really gets a hard dormcy here. We had a couple days down in the 20s, but for the most part, I mean, it's they're raring to go. It's already um by April or March, it was hitting 90 something degrees. Like Florida is crazy about that. But yeah, so this perpia is coming out and it looks terrible now. Or not perfor now, but it will get rid. I do not have any ridia. I don't think I mean I could grow rid in probably my uh grow tent. I call it a growhouse because it's not really a tent, but growhouse also sounds like you can get me in trouble. But um it's a shed that has a tent in it. And that's more climate controlled, so I could probably grow that. Um but Rigia out here in the Florida heat, I mean, it might do well. I just haven't taken a shot on it yet. I thought about it, but no, the king sundue would be amazing to own for sure. Um, I just have to be very careful because it gets blisteringly hot. Um, and so even the toughest plants that love the heat. But this cit right here, um, I don't know if you've seen the previous videos like the shorts, it is the most beautiful from Mike Wang. And this came from a very dear friend of mine on Facebook who I haven't been is a big bummer cuz she um was is just an amazing human being. But um this was a um that it's part of that citizen from my wing. And while it doesn't look like much now, it gets gorgeous like orange orange color u and then deep red during the fall. And as you can see all these growth points on it. So hey, how's it going? And so I'm super excited to have that one.

[00:18:02]Let's keep it moving. Huh. So again, all of these bananata are um yeah, just things that I've taken from uh cutings and stuff and they just grow like wildfire. What is my favorite Sarasinia?

[00:18:16]Oo, good question. Um I think it has to be a Mori. And um I know that's a hybrid, but I just love that it takes um parts of the flava and takes parts of lucafila. It grows all season long. I love the lucco. The tops of the lucos to me are absolutely amazing. And the mori has different stripings and so I would have to say that's my hybrid. As far as species go, it's probably a tie between Lucafila and probably perparia, the little squad ones. I know they're not everybody's favorite, but to me, there's something so cool about a whole like like Red Leaf Exotics is working on right now. Um, and he's making this big like bog bed that's going to be nothing but perpia. And that I'm more excited about than I probably should be.

[00:19:16]um specific favorites for oh gosh with the Sarasinium. They're still kind of coming up and I'm still trying to weigh it out. I would have to say this white one I'm very um concerned over because it's amazing and I want it to grow and I'm also very like trepidacious. I can't wait to see what that looks like. Um but I do love this one. I just think it's beautiful. It's sort of your basic lucco but or but it's just beautiful.

[00:19:49]You hope your vid a banana gets that big same. Oh man, listen. It won't take long at all. These bonadas get huge. Let me see if I can bring you over here. I just did a bunch of this potting. So I've got just bags and bags of dirt that I got to get rid of. But I'm waiting for trash day. But yeah, here's the banana.

[00:20:11]Then I've just got some Venus fly traps rescues growing in here. Um, hey, what's up? What's up? Oh, you know, I'm just hanging out, doing my thing.

[00:20:24]Um, this is my first live ever. This is crazy. I love it. I've never done this before and so it's fun. Let me show you something really cool.

[00:20:34]So here I'm doing a little like fun little experiment. All of this is stallidium deill.

[00:20:47]There we go. And so it grows like a weed. And here's some more that's been flowering. I just transplanted into this. So I'd be interested to see what it does. But my hope is it's going to absolutely take over this. Right. And just be full of If you ever seen stallium devil in mass it, um, oh, you started a carnivorous plant. That's true. That's amazing. Um, yeah. And listen, once you get the carnivorous plant bug, it'll get you, right? So, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Ask me. Yeah.

[00:21:21]The bonatum grew. So, here in Florida, it wasn't until gosh, I don't even know, very end of winter, we had a huge snap cold that got down to like well, huge for Florida, got down to 25 and it and it killed it pushed it into dormcy. But before that, it was basically growing all season long. So, I'm glad that that happened to give it a little rest and it's been coming back strong.

[00:21:51]This little hodgepodge of stuff um are just random stuff that I grew from cutings I just threw into a um See, there's like a ton of stallium in there.

[00:22:02]Yeah. And my banana grow basically year round.

[00:22:07]Oh, nites Miranda.

[00:22:11]I have some of them. Um, it just got so I have I mean I say some I probably still have 50 year 60 npenthees I don't know probably more but I just really got into the temperate for me. Um it just was just a easier care here in Florida.

[00:22:31]uh nepanthesies aren't too difficult to care for, but um I'm traveling a lot right now with our kids having to do different sports thing and so it just became more of a these you can sort of set it and forget it. You can do that with nepenthees but it's a little bit more um thing and so I just wanted to kind of transition. I still keep those nepenthees. I need to do a video here soon but a lot of the big big ones I gave out to friends and stuff.

[00:22:58]Yeah. Yeah. That's the thing about these plants, man. You love them and you love them and they can The thing about carnivorous plants is they'll out they'll they'll go from like, "Oh my gosh, this is such a fun little thing to holy crap." Um, and so like I had a Miranda. I don't know if you guys remember that thing. I bought it at a at a side like one of those side things.

[00:23:24]Yeah, very much.

[00:23:27]So the the tempers to me I don't know they just they got my heart right I still love Nepenthees they're gorgeous but something about the temperates but the that Miranda I bought at a roadside stand right and it was like it was the same thing with Venus fly traps like I was I was like oh you know and that thing got up to like 9 ft within no time and I was like holy crap. So that was one that I've passed on to friends.

[00:24:01]I love them. And then here's some more banana. These are just little pieces that I've taken that I've just planted in. Um we'll see. This is a traci that looks completely horrible. I just transplanted these probably what a couple weeks ago now maybe. And they're going to have some stowaways. Like there's a Sarasinia grown in there.

[00:24:26]Yeah, Sarasinia. I just I don't know what it is. I just love them. Like don't get me wrong, there's nothing quite like a giant truncata, but um I do love the Sarinian.

[00:24:42]Yeah, the drosser. I'm telling you, there's something about them that will absolutely steal your heart, man. They are um bonadas especially. They are just like I don't even know how to describe them. They're so voracious and how much they eat. I mean, look at especially love bug season here. These things are eating good, man. Um, but yeah, that's so cool. Like every spring, even the filmis, you go from like just like a the downer of winter and then all a sudden just boom, all this life comes back. Uh, and the drosser is one of the first ones to do it. It's a very cool experience.

[00:25:22]Yeah, Georgia is perfect area for Sarosina. They um sena are just rewarding plants too, man. Like there is to me personally there is nothing more beautiful than um just a field of Sarasinia. Like some of these collectors who have like huge like Mike Wing. Oh my I would just spend all day. I would put like a little binge out there and just spend all day with my Sarasinia.

[00:25:47]Um, I have grown rosia.

[00:25:51]Um, I think I don't know if I still have a rosia. I'm not sure. I'll have to see if I don't know if I still do or not to be honest with you. But it is a very cool plant. I know I have a bunch of rosia seedlings. That dear friend of mine gave me probably a hundred rosia seedlings. So, there's some in these all these bog bogs. We'll see as it grows out.

[00:26:16]Um, yeah, it's a tough it's a tough plant. They do have them sometimes. Carniva has them um at times. California carnivores will. I know Jeremiah's Harris does on his Jeremiah plants. He has some really cool stuff. Now, some of it might cost you some. I think it's one's called like Brunswick Beauty. Holy cow, that thing is insane. It is literally almost black.

[00:26:42]It's so dark purple. And it's got the lids are really fur furly. Like it is intense. It's gorgeous. I mean, it's it'll cost you like 150 bucks or something like that. Don't quote me on that, but it's a lot. But gosh, it's beautiful.

[00:26:58]Um, but just regular rose.

[00:27:04]Yes. Also, that's also a great one. I do want to get a big big giant one. They're just such like it's such a cool thing to me. I I made a video um a while back called how one one mistake caused a 100,000 plants. Um yeah, they are they're they're they're way up there, man. But um in Europe the somebody probably well intended planted some perparia in a bog up there and within like a couple years it had produced um a 100,000 perparia plants and now it's invasive which stinks cuz it's it's they're killing off a lot of the native insect populations because they are such voracious eaters and so consequences right. Um and so that part really stinks. But um my goal is just to just huge whatever of them.

[00:28:06]Yeah, darlingonia are tough and especially with that ura, it is not going to like that at all. But Darlingtonia are tough tough tough plants to keep if you don't have a way to give them consistently cool roots.

[00:28:19]Um, I've seen people grow them using um runoff from um gosh like uh ice makers, stuff like that. Put them in coolers you can do. It's a lot of it's a lot more work than I want to do to be honest with you. But they are amazing amazing plants.

[00:28:38]Hats off to the people who grow them.

[00:28:40]They if you depending on where you are in the country, you can grow them very easily. Um but here in Florida that those would be a um a chore. A drip system. Yep. Absolutely. That will work.

[00:28:52]Especially running off cold water.

[00:28:57]Yeah. So here's the crazy thing for me is like perparia if you read up on it and do all everybody says it's like a slow divider, slow grower. But I've noticed that if you give it the proper if you give it the proper um care and like to me it grows it grows faster than other Sarasinia. I mean maybe maybe that's anecdotal and maybe I'm just like biased but I feel like it grows faster than other Sarasinia do. Um, I mean, who knows how many plants? I'm sure when they asked him like, "How many did you plant?" They're probably like, "Oh, yeah, just one." You know, cuz they didn't want to be like, "Oh, I planted a whole crap ton in a in a bog." So that they wouldn't face as many charges. Um, but yeah, um, it's very fast growing.

[00:29:46]So, this one is not even minus this one, right? So, this one right here and this one right here are um going into their one and a first and a half season.

[00:30:02]Um to the right, I've got a Oh, no. This one right here. That is a I saved this one. Um Oh gosh, what is the name of this? It's a It's a hybrid of these two. It's a scarlet bell. I actually saved this one.

[00:30:18]I was at a plant nursery.

[00:30:21]Um and um I it was basically almost dead.

[00:30:28]Oh, it's the bog to the right of me.

[00:30:31]Um this one over here. That one.

[00:30:35]That's still left. But is that it?

[00:30:40]Oh, okay. Over here. But um haven't haven't made a video. There might be some There's definitely some Oreo Oreos in here. Um, again, that friend of mine um gave me probably 200 Oreo seeds, so there's definitely some pure Oreos in here, but I being who I am was like, you know what' be really cool? Let's just mix it all together.

[00:31:03]And so I just threw all the seeds in without giving them any sort of delineation cuz like my dream is to have a whole field of like my whole backyard just be nothing but these tall beautiful Sarasinia. And so I was like, "Yeah, I'm totally fine if the Oreos and the flavas and the moris and the lucos are all mixed together cuz it's just going to be like this cac of color." And um now I'm kind of like, you know, I wish id kind of Hey, print plant prodigy. Now I'm kind of like I wish I had just separated it out. But quesaras, we'll see. Maybe I can keep that going any.

[00:31:46]Yeah. I love a good seed mix, man. It's It's really fun for me to see that. Um I know some people get really like they want things spread out, but yeah, I like it. Loey ventricosa is amazing. I do love a good Loey ventricosa. Um, very easy to care for. Beautiful, beautiful plant. Um, the pictures will stay good forever. I used to have an amazing one.
