Scientists discovered that the Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus) is among the oldest known vertebrates on Earth, with one specimen found to be approximately 392 years old, demonstrating that these sharks grow extremely slowly (about one centimeter per year) and can survive for several centuries in the cold, deep waters of the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean.
