Diplomatic negotiations often involve complex dynamics where military threats may not effectively pressure adversaries to make concessions, as demonstrated by the US-Iran deal where President Trump claimed a comprehensive agreement was imminent while Iran maintained it had not reached final conclusions and would not compromise on core territorial and security redlines.

US Iran Deal Live : Trump Calls Off Iran Strikes As Peace Deal Nears Completion | NewsX World
Added:of understanding could be signed in Europe as early as this weekend. The announcement marks an abrupt pivot from hours earlier when the administration threatened severe strikes against Iranian oil infrastructure.
President Trump noted that a broad regional coalition has approved the framework, though he emphasized the US naval blockade will remain in full effect until a deal is finalized. Tran, however, is urging caution. The Iranian foreign ministries push back against Washington's timeline, stating that while intensive tax negotiations are ongoing, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement. Iranian officials maintain they will not compromise on core territorial and security redlines while continuing to condemn recent US blockade actions against commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman. Let's listen in to what US president had to say.
>> We have a signing soon and uh the documents are in pretty final shape. So we'll see. We'll see.
Very good. Should be done. That should be done pretty quickly. They want it every bit as much as everybody else wants it and I think a lot of good rel the whole Middle East is happy and long beyond the Middle East. The straight will open as soon as we have it signed.
We've been taking out many ships that nobody knew. Even the fake news didn't know it. But over the last month, we've been uh taking out ships, big ships quietly at night. You guys didn't know that. Pretty cool, right? as a captain.
>> We are now being joined by Robert Fantina, who's an author and a journalist joining us live from Canada.
Robert, thank you so much for joining us here today on NewsX. Well, pleasure to have you on as always. Now, President Trump says a great settlement is conceptually agreed upon, but Tran is insisting that no final decisions has been reached. Is this a genuine diplomatic breakthrough or are Washington and Tran trying to shake the narrative before a deal is actually secured?
Well, I don't believe this is a a real agreement that Donald Trump has been saying has said on several occasions in the last several weeks that a deal is imminent that Iran has capitulated on everything and given the United States everything it wants. Uh he is basically saying the same thing now and the thran government is saying uh not so fast.
There are still major issues to be resolved. Some have been agreed on. We don't know what they are yet. But this is not a completed deal as Donald Trump insists it is. It's simply what he's been saying for weeks because he's trying to extricate himself from this from this mess he has he has started. A a a peace deal is very easy to make because uh Donald Trump started this war with Benjamin Netanyahu with no real goal, no understanding of the geopolitics of the region. uh rejection of US intelligence assessments which said this would be the disaster for the United States that it has been. So Ellie, what we're seeing is Donald Trump trying to save face and stall for time.
He does not want to start bombing again because that has been so unpopular with the American public and with his allies.
So we'll see what what comes out of this. But this is not uh uh as close to finalization as he says it is. If it were then uh Thrron the government if Iran would be saying something other than what it's saying. Uh the government government spokes people in Iran would be saying yes we're very close. We're optimistic. They're not saying that.
They're saying some things have been agreed on but many still remain to be uh to be worked out.
And um if military strikes were indeed called off in the last minute, what does that tell us about the difference um of about the effectiveness of coercive diplomacy? Um did the threat of force bring Iran to the negotiating table or risk pushing the region closer to a wider conflict? Yet again, >> I don't believe that the threat of force by the United States uh pushed uh Iran to make any concessions. The Iranian military has proven its strength. Donald Trump has said repeatedly that he has completely decimated the US or Iran's uh offensive capabilities and he has to he said that at different times after after bombing campaigns. So obviously he has not reduced those uh those offensive capabilities or defensive capabilities.
Uh Iran would would strike back as it did. The Iranian military has completely decimated or just about completely decimated at least 20 US bases throughout the Middle East. Donald Trump does not want to see more of the US's military strength uh weakened and destroyed in the Middle East. So he makes these threats and calls them and and cancels them at the last minute.
This is not the first time he's done that. So we're seeing the pattern the same. He wants to to talk big, talk as if he is going to uh to to launch this huge bombing campaign and then pulls back at the last minute saying that a deal is very close. Uh so he's not pressuring the Iranian government. The Iranian government is looking at this realistically, logically, and reasonably, and is making demands on the uh United States that the United States will either accept or not accept. That's where compromise comes into play. But we have to remember, it's the United States that started this war. It's the United States military that has been greatly reduced, at least throughout the Middle East. And it is Donald Trump that is desperate for a deal. M and um the US has indicated that its naval blockade will remain in place until a formal agreement is signed and official. Can meaningful negotiations still continue under this um under ongoing economic and military pressure or could this blockade itself become a major obstacle in a final settlement?
It certainly could become a major obstacle because it is damaging the Iranian economy. The Iranian people are suffering because of this blockade and uh Donald Trump knows this but he doesn't understand the resilience of the Iranian people. They are used to sanctions. They are used to economic uh difficulties and challenges due to western uh attempts at at bringing the the government to its knees. So, this is going to be a point that Iran will uh will definitely stress that the blockade must end immediately in order for uh any kind of deal to move forward and we'll see how this plays out. But Donald Trump is not in the strong position that he likes to pretend he is in. He's simply uh the the Iranian government, the Iranian people can outlast and outweight uh the US government because of especially because of the midterm elections that are coming up in about 6 months that Donald Trump is desperate to to prevent losses uh to prevent losing control of both houses of Congress, which of course would weaken him greatly as the US president. Of course, Robert, thank you so much for joining us here today on NewsX. Well, pleasure as always being able to speak with you. Now, up next, North Korean leader King Jong-un.

Let's listen in to what US president had to say.
We have a signing soon and uh the documents are in pretty final shape. So, we'll see. We'll see.
Very good. Should be done. That should be done pretty quickly. They want it every bit as much as everybody else wants it. And I think a lot of good rel.
The whole Middle East is happy. And long beyond the Middle East, the straight will open as soon as we have it signed.
We've been taking out many ships that nobody knew. Even the fake news didn't know it. But over the last month, we've been uh taking our ships, big ships, quietly at night. You guys didn't know that. Pretty cool, right? As a captain.
>> We are now being joined by Robert Fantina, who's an author and a journalist, joining us live from Canada.
Robert, thank you so much for joining us here today on NewsXwell. Pleasure to have you on as always.
Uh he is basically saying the same thing now and the Tan government is saying uh not so fast.
There are still major issues to be resolved. Some have been agreed on. We don't know what they are yet, but this is not a completed deal as Donald Trump insists it is.
If it were, then uh Thyran the government if Iran would be saying something other than what it's saying. Uh the government government spokes people in Iran would be saying yes, we're very close. We're optimistic. They're not saying that.
They're saying some things have been agreed on, but many still remain to be uh to be worked out. M and um if military strikes were indeed called off in the last minute, what does that tell us about the difference um of about the effectiveness of coercive diplomacy? Um did the threat of force bring Iran to the negotiating table or risk pushing the region closer to a wider conflict?
Yet again, >> I don't believe that the threat of force by the United States uh pushed uh Iran to make any concessions. The Iranian military has proven its strength. Donald Trump has said repeatedly that he has completely decimated the US or Iran's uh offensive capabilities and he has to he said it at different times after after bombing campaigns.
He wants to to talk big, talk as if he is going to uh to to launch this huge bombing campaign and then pulls back at the last minute saying that a a deal is very close. Uh so he's not pressuring the Iranian government.
Iranian government is looking at this realistically, logically and reasonably and is making demands on the uh United States that the United States will either accept or not accept. That's where compromise comes into play. But we have to remember it's the United States that started this war. It's the United States military that has been greatly uh reduced at least throughout the Middle East. And it is Donald Trump that is desperate for a deal.
And um the US has indicated that its naval blockade will remain in place until a formal agreement is signed and official.
US President Donald Trump has announced he has cancelled all scheduled military strikes against Iran, claiming a comprehensive deal to end claiming a comprehensive deal to end the war is close. Robert, thank you so much for joining us here today on NewsXwell. Pleasure to have you on as always. Now, President Trump says a great settlement is conceptually agreed upon, but Tran is insisting that no final decisions has been reached. Is this a genuine diplomatic breakthrough or are Washington and Tran trying to shape the narrative before a deal is actually secured?
Well, I don't believe this is a a real agreement that Donald Trump has been saying has said on several occasions in the last several weeks that a deal is imminent that Iran has capitulated on everything and given the United States everything it wants. Uh he is basically saying the same thing now and the Tan government is saying uh not so fast.
There are still major issues to be resolved. Some have been agreed on. We don't know what they are yet, but this is not a completed deal as Donald Trump insists it is. It's simply what he's been saying for weeks because he's trying to extricate himself from this from this mess he has he has started. A a peace deal is very easy to make because uh Donald Trump started this war with Benjamin Netanyahu with no real goal, no understanding of the geopolitics of the region. uh rejection of US intelligence assessments which said this would be the disaster for the United States that it has been. So Ellie, what we're seeing is Donald Trump trying to save face and stall for time.
He does not want to start bombing again because that has been so unpopular with the American public and with his allies.
So we'll see what what comes out of this. But this is not uh uh as close to finalization as he says it is.
It's the United States military that has been greatly reduced at least throughout the Middle East. And it is Donald Trump that is desperate for a deal.
And um the US has indicated that its naval blockade will remain in place until a formal agreement is signed and official.
M of course.

There are still major issues to be resolved. Some have been agreed on. We don't know what they are yet, but this is not a completed deal as Donald Trump insists it is. It's simply what he's been saying for weeks because he's trying to extricate himself from this from this mess he has he has started. A a peace deal is very easy to make because Donald Trump started this war with Benjamin Netanyahu with no real goal, no understanding of the geopolitics for the region. Uh rejection of US intelligence assessments which said this would be the disaster for the United States that it has been. So Ellie, what we're seeing is Donald Trump trying to save face and stall for time.
he does not want to start bombing again because that has been so unpopular with the American public and with his allies.
So, we'll see what what comes out of this. But this is not uh uh as close to finalization as he says it is. If it were, then uh Thrron the government if Iran would be saying something other than what it's saying. Uh the government government spokes people in Iran would be saying yes, we're very close. We're optimistic. They're not saying that.
They're saying some things have been agreed on, but many still remain to be uh to be worked out.
>> And um if military strikes were indeed called off in the last minute, what does that tell us about the difference um of about the effectiveness of coercive diplomacy? Um, did the threat of force bring Iran to the negotiating table or risk pushing the region closer to a wider conflict?
So, he makes these threats and calls them and and cancels them at the last minute.
This is not the first time he's done that. So, we're seeing the pattern the same. He wants to to talk big, talk as if he is going to uh to to launch this huge bombing campaign and then pulls back the last minute saying that a a deal is very close. Uh so he's not pressuring the Iranian government. The Iranian government is looking at this realistically, logically, and reasonably and is making demands on the uh United States that the United States will either accept or not accept.
They are used to economic uh difficulties, challenges due to western uh attempts at at bringing the the government to its knees. US President Donald Trump has announced he has cancelled all scheduled military strikes against Iran, claiming a comprehensive deal to end claiming a comprehensive deal to end the war is close. Speaking on his True Social website and later from the Oval Office, President Trump stated that a great settlement has been conceptually agreed upon at the highest levels of leadership, adding that a formal memorandum of understanding could be signed in Europe as early as this weekend.
The Iranian foreign ministries pushed back against Washington's timeline, stating that while intensive tax negotiations are ongoing, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement. Iranian officials maintain they will not compromise on core territorial and security red lines while continuing to condemn recent US blockade actions against commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman. Let's listen in to what US president had to say.

Uh Iran would would strike back as it did the Iranian military has completely decimated or just about completely decimated at least 20 US bases throughout the Middle East.
Iranian government is looking at this realistically, logically and reasonably and is making demands on the uh United States that the United States will either accept or not accept. That's where compromise comes into play. But we have to remember it's the United States that started this war. It's the United States military that has been greatly reduced at least throughout the Middle East. And it is Donald Trump that is desperate for a deal.
The Iranian foreign ministries pushed back against Washington's timeline, stating that while intensive tax negotiations are ongoing, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement. Let's listen in to what US president had to say.

The Iranian government is looking at this realistically, logically and reasonably and is making demands on the uh United States that the United States will either accept or not accept. That's where compromise comes into play. But we have to remember it's the United States that started this war. It's the United States military that has been greatly reduced at least throughout the Middle East. And it is Donald Trump that is desperate for a deal.
And um the US has indicated that its naval blockade will remain in place until a formal agreement is signed and official.
