Light in art serves as a powerful symbol of hope, representing the transition from darkness to illumination, while spirals carry dual meanings of concentration (when viewed from outside to inside) and infinity (when imagined to continue endlessly), creating a visual experience that combines movement with stillness and offers viewers a moment of reflection and hope.

#StayInVenice with Dr. Dorothea · Lore Bert – Towards the Light ENHinzugefügt:
A very warm welcome dear friends of art.
We are here in Venice in the church San Fantine opposite of the Siet Laenich in the heart of Venice. And we just finished the setting up of this beautiful show of Lurat which she shows in um relation occasion of her 90th birthday which will take place in some short weeks. Uh after some other two big presentations here in Venice, one in 2013 at the Coral Museum in St. Marco Square under the title art and knowledge, the spirit of the place in the five platonic solids and the second one in the church of San Samuel close to Palato Graassi with the title enlightenment ways to Herea. She's now uh presenting her light works, the work with neon that she does already since more than 30 years.
The the title of the exhibition is closed towards the light. So also we with our little walk around the exhibition will approach towards the light and the choir and the very back of this church. We start here with the first circle full of papers, crumbled papers that uh include a spiral of little neon balls. The neon balls are in white and turkeys.
And um uh a spiral is always a double symbol. It's a symbol of concentration if you look to a spiral from outside to inside. But it's also a symbol for infinity unlimited because you could imagine that the spiral is going on and on and on.
And if you go go around this circle then you see that it's uh it's it seems to move even so it's fixed in the sea of paper. And if you watch the papers more closely then you understand that some of the papers have some signatures on it even some sometimes little drawings or or or or texts or whatever. It was the idea of Jamatio Don Caputo from the Kura here in Venice when Laura presented him uh her idea of the exhibition.
Then he introduced to her because uh last year in 2025 we had another holy year and uh in the holy year which only appears every 25 years uh the pope gives a title and the title was um pilgrims of hope. And so uh all the pilgrims went to to uh Rome to go to the holy gate to get rid of all the sins. And uh by this they passed some of them passed um uh uh also the Venetian area. And here in the churches in about 12 or 15 churches, we put the papers of on invitation of Jamatio Don Caputo and uh uh to to invite the pilgrims to leave the signature as a sign of hope which will be included in the exhibition. They expected about 30 millions uh pilgrims. Not all went by food. Ma main went by plane I guess but uh we collected about 40,000 sheets of paper and uh we could not include all in the installations but we include a good number of it and uh now we see the second circle the circle is an homage to Venice on one hand side but not only on Venice it's a it's an symbol it includes first of all in includes seven neon objects. The neon objects are in red color and the red color is uh there are seven of them. So like the seven days of a week it's like um the the whole amount of a week and on the other hand side it's obtains of four circles that together uh built a quadriora. The quadria it's an it's a church it's a form from goautic churches uh palaces buildings um used very often in windows like in the in the uh palat ducala and in the kajustinian kaduro and so on but uh it's not only a symbol for venice and the goautic palaces but also it's a symbol for the cardinal virtues it's then It symbolize um uh um ustitia wisdom uh temperancia uh so and um kurage. So with this um virtues um if you include that in your life or try to include that we know that it's not always function or working but if you have this in mind as something as a value as something important as something that could make your life better then it will help and also here we have the pilgrims included in the papers in the circle which is infinity as Well, and of course they are they are created by circles the forms and so you have four circles together it's four times infinity and uh now we approach to the choir and in the choir we see a sculpture with oriental numbers and the oriental numbers they come as the name already explains from the orient from east and in the east in the orient they developed not only the numbers a zero. But these numbers that later was used in business, in historic science, in mathematics, uh for calculations and so on. And interesting is that these numbers which are the number three, the number six and the number nine which are all able to be divided into three uh they stands also for for for the holy trinity uh that uh is somehow included in the sculpture. But as the exhibition is called towards the light to approach the light is a symbol for hope. So if you're in the darkness, if you feel lost, if you feel lonely and you see somewhere the shining light, it was the light of the star that was seen in the uh in the Christmas night. It's the light that is uh seen in the Easter night when uh Christ uh became alive again. And uh it's the light that gives hope because you always uh are sometimes in a in a in a dark moment but then if the light comes you feel happy again.
And especially in Venice, we have here Elmoopula Tempesta. We know this that always after the storm, after the darkness, the light comes again, the sun shines again. And um this gives hope.
And here it's not only that we have this beautiful environments that really uh will touch you when you see this in nature. It's so different if you stand in front of it. If you feel the size, if you feel the the poetry which is in it.
Uh but also we have four wonderful painting objects with Japanese paper from Lurad. And I start here with the uh spiral. It's the same motif that we have in the in the first circle. It's a spiral. And here you really can understand uh what the spiral is. You you better see it. And it's also in two keys and white. And and you see it starts from the center. It's going outwards. And uh it's not so easy to create a spiral because a spiral is uh there's never a diameter equal because it's continuing. It's a continuation and the distance from one uh to the next is always the same. But try to create the spirit. It's not so easy. I can tell you it's really a thing. And here you understand clearly that if you follow the line from outside to inside then you approach to the center and uh it's it's concentration in the in the in the direct meaning of the work and uh and of the word and uh to nowadays there are so many things happen in the world where uh we which make it difficult to concentrate social media and so Uh so it's maybe worse to to concentrate a moment on the work to look at it and to feel this uh this intensive movement which is on the other hand side very quiet.
It's an early work. Uh it's more than 20 years old. Uh as you can see the surface is very different to the later works which is also interesting because it's a little bit more experimental.
On the other side, we have another work in turquis or turquas. Uh but it's uh even if it looks different, it looks more constructive and less round. Maybe it has a very similar uh meaning somehow because you have a a a central point on which the whole construction is concentrated and it's movement and silence at the same time. And you could imagine a circle that is going around and this beautiful color combination of white and black and and gold and turkeys very elegant too. And uh also this is something to concentrate but it's movement at the same time. So like the world is going on and on it will always be changed and we hope that it will change for the better. This is our spiransa work, our hope work. In this horrible world where everything is going to be destroyed, we need constructive forms. We need constructive thoughts to survive. And we need beauty. Of course, you know, beauty is so important. If we don't look at beauty, our soul is destroyed. And if our soul is destroyed, we cannot be friendly. that if our soul is happy and it looks to beautiful things, we can be friendly to people and people will be friendly to us. So it's a it's a way to peace also. And we look now to to the other two two works which are also related u we have the two green works to the red neons and we have the two red works to the green neons more or less. And here this one is uh a work with a tic tac form. But it's interesting that the tic tac form in gray and white is has a break in between. So that means it's not only coming and going away, but there's a stop. And if you look very carefully, you find out that it's some sort of a cross in the middle. And the cross is a it's a stop, but it's a border. But this border is is um is not working because it's going over it. The movement is going over it. Also a work which is quite silent and movement at the same time. But the color here is particular because this um this uh magenta color or however you call it. It's a combination of blue and red of spirit and emotion.
And uh so this is uh is a wonderful intensive color that uh that treats you already by the color. And on the other hand side we have our masterpiece of the exhibition that you find on all invitation card mouse pad and so on catalog of course. This is um the circle with the gold crown also in magenta. And it's quite particular because it's uh so uh so delicate in the surface. You see um the color is painted. It's not that you uh just have a fixed color. The luro always mix the color. And when you see that you you find a here some parts are darker, some parts are lighter, some are more blue, some are little bit more yellow like this. And the the combination of the gold and this magenta is marvelous as well. But it's also it's also a sign of infinity and it's a sign of the light of the shining that gives hope. And um we hope our hope is that you come to the beautiful exhibition that you will approach to these circles, to the forms, to the materials and uh become a part of it by visiting that exhibition and uh I I can promise you will never forget this experience you can make here. And here we have also our wonderful artist Laura Robert. She she is uh in the good color uh dressed for her magenta works and uh she created all this and uh uh this wonderful space and this wonderful experience for all the visitors. So we are looking forward to your visit. The exhibition is going to open on Friday 8th of May and it's running until 22nd of October. So 6 months. So you have a good opportunity to visit the show to have this wonderful experience of beauty and hope. Thank you very much.
