This is a classic display of how political elites use procedural maneuvers to prioritize partisan optics over actual conflict resolution. It proves that for the establishment, the intellectual exercise of debating war powers is often more important than the reality of ending the conflict.

Senate Republicans BLOCK Dems' effort to end Iran conflictHinzugefügt:
Let's go to Fox News correspondent Alex Hogan at the White House. Hi Alex. Hi Shannon. With so much focus on Taiwan after President Trump's historic visit to China, Taiwan's president today reacting to that visit saying that Taiwan will not escalate the conflict, although at the same time it's not going to give up its sovereignty or free way of life, nor will it be sacrificed or traded away. Meantime, with this delicate ceasefire between the US and Iran still underway, President Trump says that hostilities could resume if Iran fails to reach a deal.
US Senate Republicans this week blocked the latest Democratic led effort to end the war in Iran until it's approved by Congress. While three Republicans have now joined Democrats in efforts to rein in the president's war power, the attempt failed on a vote of 50 to 49.
The ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz remains on shaky ground. Here at home, Americans say they're feeling the weight of the war at the pump.
>> to get a handle on this and the US needs to figure this out.
>> President Trump calling prices short-term pain. He made the comments during his historic two-day visit to China. The president touting the visit as a success pointing to Chinese commitments to purchase American goods like soybeans and 200 Boeing aircraft.
China's Commerce Ministry Saturday announced the US and China have agreed to expand agricultural trade. Still critics argue the president failed to nail down enough concrete agreements. I don't think the United States particularly got anything out of this.
China got the ability to show to the president lavish praise on him, but they're dogged in pursuing their strategic interests. Taiwan dominated conversations, although President Trump says America's stance remains the same.
>> I'm not looking to have somebody go independent and you know, we're supposed to travel 9,500 miles to fight a war. I'm not looking for that. Uh I want them to cool down. I want China to cool down.
>> Meantime, shortly after returning home, President Trump announced that early Saturday morning US and Nigerian forces carried out a mission to kill members of ISIS including ISIS commander Abu Bilal al-Manukhi. The US military's Africa command calling him the most active terrorist in the world saying he had a history of helping plan attacks and abductions. The administration says that this strike took months of planning, Shannon.
All right, Alex Hogan at the White House. Alex, thank you very much. Be sure to like and subscribe for all the Fox News latest on YouTube and catch full shows streaming now on Fox 1.
