In democratic political systems, primary elections serve as internal party mechanisms for selecting candidates, where electoral integrity, transparency, and fair processes are essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring legitimate outcomes. The African Democratic Congress presidential primary election in Nigeria demonstrated how candidate selection involves not only vote counting but also complex political dynamics including regional support, coalition building, and legal challenges that can affect the legitimacy of electoral outcomes.

ADC: Atiku Wins Presidential Primaries As Amaechi Raises ConcernsAdded:
Former vice president Atiku Abubaka recorded a strong showing in the ongoing African Democratic Congress presidential primary election defeating fellow aspirants Rotimi Aameichi and Muhammad Hayatin in parts of Yub state. Results announced by the returning officers showed that polling 740 votes in Bolawa and Potiscom while former minister of transportation Aichi secured 15 votes and hire to got two votes. The ADC presidential primaries was concluded across 8,89 WS nationwide with the three aspirants casting their votes in their respective states. Artiku voted in the Jimea area of Adamawa state and commended the conduct of the exercise expressing optimism that the outcome of the primary will contribute to Nigeria's recovery.
Achi voted in Ubimore local government area of River State while Hayatin cast his vote in Jerry Boru state. Speaking after voting in River State, Amichi said he would only accept the outcome of the primary if the process remained transparent, free and fair across the country. He noted that the exercise, in his word, witnessed massive turnout, celebration, and orderly participation, adding that he had monitored reports from different states and hoped the same standard was mention maintained nationwide. The former River State governor however warned that aspirants would challenge the process if irregularities emerged. AI stressed that he was willing to support whoever emerged victorious if the exercise remained credible but insisted that any flawed process would be questioned by constant dissatisfied with the conduct of the election. Now uh apparently uh Fichi and Hayudin your take on this one >> that's a Y statement >> yes but generally the results coming out >> so far article took the lead across board >> okay because I was going to concentrate on that but I know that even this morning you know I've seen the >> the impos you know um last time I listened to ai in thinking one of the sister station and he said she said um that Tatiku has has has boosted that he has never lost primaries before and that he said two questions are there number one is that he's going to lose this one and I like I like that I like that that audacity but the audacity shouldn't be by speech it should be by action you know it's not by what you say it's by what you put in place you know it's by going around because I wondered how And I would have won an article in an open contest primaries direct primaries in the even if it's direct primaries even by delegate in in that uh uh he would have run like Obina just run to another place knowing that will win it there's no way the only way an would have won art or would have won that primary was if Artu backed out and then backed him in that place so to to contest that but you know some of us are saying well It is easier to let your supporters see you as another thing. I have seen those kind of speeches before. You know, I've seen those speeches before and I've seen it not p to any result. I've been with them. You know, I know those speeches does not amount to any result. What would have witnessed is that I would have been seen that the whole of the south south and the southeast >> voted for me.
>> Voted for >> that is the question I wanted to know.
It's not even I wanted to hear that since he went to Yub and got 15 where I think was getting 700 something votes >> and he had never at any point boosted that his electoral strength was in the in his region. He has never done that.
>> No no no no it's not about boosting that but see let me tell you especially in in the primaries.
>> Okay.
>> Now you see in the electoral game in the primaries is a different ball game from the major election.
>> All right.
>> You understand? You know why is he the prime minister? Because this party quote unquote was literally put together by you.
So you were seen as almost the south south head of the and amongst the now be is out of >> the routheast we give it to you because you are the one who should ordinarily lead them.
There is something we always need to question.
How come that will not happen? I just hope it it happened that 11 states should have given you including even the southwest.
Do you understand I'm saying from that dimension? So at least what would have been here and now is that won him in 11 states of south and southeast then he won here. They went to the middle bet and then they started dragging votes and all of that in all of that. though he won his own place. This one came that's what I wanted to hear. It means that you were on radio and television talking but you were doing the work >> the ground work. the ground work THAT IS WHERE I DON'T FIND IT EASY LOOK AT OKAY LET ME even show you look at in ADC state your own area up to today up to today before your primaries that happened yesterday that the ADC university is still having conflicting candidates in your own campo is still having conflicting candidates something is wrong now.
Did you have did you see conflicting candidates in in APC? He reverse it.
They haven't committed you know I was thinking BY THE FACT THAT YOU are going here the first thing you need to do is a day to that and seek everybody down and convince them and then you see people saying we are supporting ADC will be one >> in the in the state >> ESPECIALLY IN THE STATE I'M SAYING THE STATE THAT SHOWS that you are presidential ENOUGH here so you CAN SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE PEOPLE ARE STILL ARGUING I'm the candidate is a candidate is candidate in in the that article has will still have an impetus into the estate before even giving you your own state. Do you know ordinarily ordinarily should have made all the sat global candidates of the ADC ordinarily ordinarily >> because he should have been the political leader in the SOUTH AND MY FATHER told me that dry meat is very sweet to eat as an equal man. Now when they dry a meat is very sweet but the question will be what will you be eating before the meat dries starting from your home your people and your country IT MEANS THAT ALL OF THIS period you HAVE JUST SAT DOWN a river state to harmonize your people and let them come under a a a a I mean under a candidate and present the candidate will be seamless in your own area so that All of them.
You know what that means? If there were a division, there's a likelihood of a division during the primary yesterday in the state because everybody all the blocks that would have to look towards their own organ who funded them in the proed there wasn't going to be a block vote.
Don't worry, we analyze the state votes one after the other and I tell you why he shouldn't lose here or why he should lose here. But then let's still look at ADC and their primaries. Right now ADC has two factional presidential candidates.
>> So we have Artiku on the Turki side and we have Dumi on the side of the Dumi the neck. Let me use that word because they are the neck on the side of uh a DC neck. Now between these two sites, Dumi actually the article le Turaki le um ADC that is flaunting article as their presidential candidate has um a well supreme court gave a judgment with regards to an injunction.
>> Yeah.
However, the dum le uh neck has a current judgment that has life from federal high court, you know, precided over by justice Joyce Abdul Malik >> also giving perpetual injunction against Turki led Katea from holding national conventions primary from David M. Sorry, David M. There was a perpetual injunction you know baring them from acting in any capacity either through allies or even through proxies and also mandating ink to recognize them. There were in perpetual injunctions and there were declarations. That judgment was very very declarative and now you have these two people while David Mark is enjoying the recognition of uh Ink Dumi faction having done their national convention has written to and by the way attended that national convention. So now they have written to Ink informing them of the outcome of that convention and requesting that their faction be recognized.
How do you see this playing out for artic >> in the coming days? Do you see the the David M faction even having a party at the end of the day close to 2027? Do you see article Abubaka being on the ballot paper? I mean article ADC being on the ballot paper come 2027 >> you know U Lisha what I have tried to do is to say within the framework of what I know >> Mhm. and allow I have told you that the ADC as led by Mark didn't exist abition I've said severally but I'm just analyzing their jokes that even in that their joke it was not you know what would have happened is if AI had won as candidate I think we now have a a an excuse already to say Lizzie why he didn't win for this one is that all of a sudden just I can write their script on what they're going to say.
They they paid in and they paid judges to judge against them because they were afraid of article and that's what they were going to say without taking note of the process the underlying thing bringing things together. We have gone past that level. But what I'm saying is that if a court has given and you have not appealed that court and there's nothing we wait for what is going to happen because the the the Supreme Court and other courts is going to speak ultimately right now in attended their own presidential meeting that means will recognize them until and I TELL YOU THE DANGER in this whole thing why he needed to to cement this legal field IS THAT THE DANGER in it is that If an article goes to win and I when I mean an article or David Mark is including their governors goes to win any state and the dummies has a candidate there and supreme court rules otherwise to say that it was dumb they candidate to become the governor that is the danger in the whole of the things that's why they need to make do with the whole of this but I already told you that it looks to me that they mi they tu who the David's candidate will become the governor >> if the speaker if he say one >> and that candidate is the authentic agency that mean >> yes >> that's the danger in it I'm saying at the level of the governor or assembly >> cuz that will not happen and they won't even win they know that the collection of all of them will not win imagine them and you know um my brother did say that well he has even given you uh he has given you a notice that uh of course you know they will they will say that this thing was not done fairly and that will be the start of the problem ADC will further divide you know when OB when OB left there was a crack I'm talking about their own even their own faction of the ADC is sick their own faction of ADC I'm not even talking about waiting for them their own faction >> the David M faction >> the with fashion you will see what is going up look at what is happening in states I tell you that they weren't there as coalition they are there as individual little wonder because if they were as coalition look at what will happen an article will not fund a candidate in state for they not a coalition the >> everybody's pushing individual >> everybody is pushing individual a coalition says we're going to produce a candidate or be that is individual aspiration will not be seen. We don't see the light of the day. Yeah, he ran know that no, he will not be running mate here. He you know there's no way because he's from the same zone with he knows then he left in this place now is pushing his own he's pushing is supporting candidates candidate in his own place supporting candidate in A's place should even after he left and I think that there was a news that pipped out and the news was that they asked ami to step down you know for him and I that would have been the most fantastic thing that would have happened you know two of them come together run an election because as soon as you contest an election there's a suspicion that have been created a suspicion that have been created and you know if not you will see look at an APC for instance between the uh for God forbid between uh the what my friend Kelly George Kelly between George Kelly and uh and those who who with you because actually K who with you it's not so who with you do you know a judge Kelly can be named running mate without because he with you it's not when you go to context it with the person you become more suspicious because at the point of context your supporters and this person there would have been a clash >> that will make it very that will make that series very in fact coming to run together will be more competitive than you even think right so you want somebody that wouldn't be competitive with you so that's what and each time people are running an election I tell you that even the running mate is already contesting the running mate is already contested you know why by his or her works I will not be shocked if chooses kongo chongo as his running mate I won't be shock because He's not even coming to choose you because he a sitting governor or because you have won anything in your place. So what is the what is the credential that you have more than to conquer? I don't understand it. So what what why would they choose you over him?
Because you show capacity you'll be I want to see that the voted pattern in their primaries the I will look at the state and I will tell you what is going to happen.
