[00:01:08]Hey, look, you finally reached the F2 generation. This is where all the magic takes place. This where all the magic happens, right? But, it's also where most breeders make the most common mistakes. The seven common biggest mistakes you can make when you reach the F2 generation and how to avoid those common mistakes. So, without further ado, gang, let's get straight into it.

[00:04:29]And hit that hype button. So, when we talk about that F2 generation, the number one on the list, selecting too early. Many breeders make the decisions before plants have fully had a chance to express themselves.

[00:04:47]Patience is critical because some traits don't reveal themselves until later in the generation, right? We need to focus on taking our time and what?

[00:04:58]Full documentation along the way. That's key. But, that is a huge mistake many new breeders, especially, and even some experienced breeders tend to make.

[00:05:10]Choosing too early. Number two, not keeping or being able to grow enough plants. You need to have, especially in the F2 generation, the more you have to look at, the more variety will express itself, right?

[00:05:32]We People ask me all the time, "How many plants do I need to start with?" Starting is one thing, but once you reach that F2 generation, you want to have at least 100 plants, in my opinion, in my experienced opinion. You want to have at least 100 plants to be able to get that variety and expression you're looking for. We always stress how the F2 generation will expose recessive traits, good or bad. We need to give ourselves enough opportunity to see and isolate anything bad, especially because it was hidden in F1.

[00:06:19]If things were hidden in F1 that's bad, we definitely want to give ourselves the best opportunity to expose them. And we do that by planting as many plants as possible. 100 is the best foundation starting point, but the more the better.

[00:06:35]Number three, hugest mistake that breeders make when entering the F2 stage, chasing one trait versus overall performance, right? Don't get caught up and it's easy to get caught up down that rabbit hole when you see something you like, right?

[00:06:59]Aroma, terpenes, frosty, and then you begin to chase that one individual trait.

[00:07:08]And in many cases, the inexperienced breeder will sacrifice overall performance and not even know choose and select consistently when it comes to performance, right? Overall performance.

[00:07:22]Even if we think we may be sacrificing some individual traits. Why?

[00:07:30]Because we can always go back later and fix individual traits into our line, right? Don't lose sight or overall performance.

[00:07:44]Chasing one trait. The number four biggest mistake that breeders make entering F2 stage is ignoring the comparison between F2 and what you saw happen in F1. Remember when we talked about how recessive traits can be hidden.

[00:08:05]Right? Well, they are hidden, not can be.

[00:08:08]Uh uh bad traits can be hidden, right?

[00:08:11]Recessive traits will always be hidden in F1.

[00:08:15]Some of them good, some of them bad.

[00:08:17]The most important thing is to identify isolate and remove any unwanted and bad recessive traits.

[00:08:31]So, remember you want to make good comparisons between the F2 generation when it comes to what you see that you didn't see in the F1 generation. Number five, and this is a huge one. So, these are in no particular order because number five is extremely huge. One of the biggest mistakes new breeders, new growers make is not only during the F2 generation, but period, is failure to take notes, failure to document, lackluster documentation, right? You need to document everything.

[00:09:12]All right, this is the foundation of success when working a inbred line. Whether that be produce plants, flowers, and it don't matter. Whatever it is, you need to have proper documentation. You in your mindset need to have the idea of overly documenting, over documentation.

[00:09:37]Going over and beyond what you thought you needed to know or needed to record.

[00:09:42]Make sure you document however you choose to videos, paper, uh recorder, whatever it is, make sure you document, document, record, record. Without detailed records, it's difficult to identify patterns, compare siblings, or make informed selections. Number six, hugest mistake that most breeders make when entering the F2 generation. Selecting based on height instead of actually having clear, concise goals and plans set in place.

[00:10:23]You should have a clear, concise goal after every generation moving into the next generation based off what information you got from the last generation. F1 is just the start and foundation of the data collection, of the information you're going to get to help you and keep you informed when moving through the process of building your line. Once you get to that F2 stage, same thing. You need to already have a plan in place so that you can know which direction you're headed towards F3, towards a back, whatever tool you need to pull out your toolbox will be based on the decisions in the plan that you already have in place. Number seven on our list, right? Last but not least, right? We talked about how important it is to have as many plants as possible, right?

[00:11:23]Now, one of the hugest mistakes breeders make when entering the F2 stage is to cull too many plants too early.

[00:11:37]Yes.

[00:11:38]There's balance to everything. We always talk about how important it is to cull plants. Yes, but you have to be strategic.

[00:11:46]If you start just chopping plants and getting rid of them too early on without enough documentation, information, data, right, and note-taking, then you risk the chances of missing a lot of possible gems, treasures, right? Um uh valuable traits that you may lose out on by culling plants too early. That is the difficult thing when you um can be the difficult thing when you get into breeding is um yes, you can learn how to breed using a small amount of plants. You can learn how to how to do it, right? Um you can learn to ride a bike on a regular mountain bike. Some people learn with training wheels.

[00:12:39]But if you ever plan to enter competitively as a professional, that's a whole different ballgame. The F2 generation is where breeders separate themselves from the pollen chuckers.

[00:12:54]This is what starts you in your journey to become a real breeder, where you start to make clear, concise choices and decisions that are based on your desired outcome of this line.
