This video strips away the myth of the untouched wilderness to show the essential human labor keeping desert life afloat. It’s a sharp reminder that in our era, conservation is as much about infrastructure as it is about biology.

Surprise Visit at the Waterhole! NamibiaCam Introduces Dayne & Heinrich!Added:
Hello, hello, hello everybody. It's me again. Namibia came here and yeah, I was by luck again here in this area.
Actually, no, wasn't by luck. I'm here in the area for Sunday special. Uh, we've got one of our experts who showing the people around here in the dunes. And I took the opportunity to actually follow him in the morning and in the evening trying to catch geckos and little snakes and everything. Every little thingy in these dunes we caught and it was actually fun. So, filmed that, but we chat about that one just now. So, yeah, everybody. And uh the interesting thing is um I've got two of them here. So I decided the water hole is a little dirty. It took some time before we could clean it. So uh I think these two should do some cleaning before we introduce them a little bit. And uh it could be fun. Okay. Um hello Red Cap and uh thanks for being on duty today again. So guys, come here. Come come come. Uh cleaning climb in the desert.
Here they are. Check these two. So, uh, may I quickly introduce you? This is our expert, Dane Brain. He's a naturalist.
And then we've got Hinrich Laru. He's also working for the Gondana collection.
One of the guys there.
>> Good afternoon. Hope you're all well.
>> Afternoon. It's going to be a lacing pool over here.
>> Yeah.
>> All animals have to drink.
And as you see, I taught them well. Uh, Namibians, we all don't have shoes. Um, this is they learned quickly on the way here. So, yeah. Okay, guys. Do the cleaning. But it's fun.
>> Nice, guys. Uh, by the way, there were hyenas bising in here. And, uh, yeah. So, this is how you do it.
thinking why there's a lot of sand.
some young guys around here. I think I'm put really really thirsty.
Lots of plastic.
A quick lift today.
Was one of the fastest cleanies.
Oh. Oh, there it goes again. That's what we did. What's out there? Right. Just a bit. We have the sand out.
Oh, there's a piece of bone from the hyena here.
But I I'll offer them a better Namibian coffee a bit later.
Hand cake is up. It's a bit better from there. Hey guys, awesome.
That was a great job. Much better. And now we prepare for the wood some wowing.
And yeah, I was kindly asked to tilt the cam a little bit. Uh, right. I close it left. Left alter right. Hopefully I think it is that.
And while the guys are cleaning, I could also do the demo.
Give you a few second. Close your eyes for a sec.
All right. Now you get it. Okay.
Perfect. Thank you very again nicely. Nice and nice and slow.
But I see if we can the inlet if we can twist it a little bit. It can come the mill. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It could some more water out there. Yeah. Even that is a bit weird.
>> Water.
>> Yeah. Fresh water.
You horse riders as you drink the water.
Yeah.
Look at the sh.
>> This is a net. So So we've been having a great time in the park few days together here. Uh we've been going out every morning before sunrise catching the early worms looking for all the creatures of the Namib. And uh yeah, we've had interesting sightings. We've had couple of different species of gecko, the the potted baffling geckos out here in the evening. your giant ground geckos. We had pering others in the dune today. Um, scorpions, couple of species. So, yeah, lots of insect activity out there. Um, obviously our true endemic bird, the dunlock is the icon. This is actually the only place that I personally know of where uh it has been documented that they come down to drink more on a regular basis than anywhere else. So the dunes are just behind probably about a kilometer away.
So uh quite an unusual habitat to find a bird at. So fascinating stuff >> indeed. Yeah.
>> And yeah, we also we chatted today about the pond go we have here in the morning surfing down uh on the lakqua on the sankos. It's also an adaptation year in the desert because yeah it's currently green. It's amazing.
Even these guys are amazed of how green.
Yeah.
>> Yeah. Two mornings in a row, we started digging. We like you said, we find the tracks in it and Yeah. But we shall.
>> Yeah. We moved a lot of sand and put it all back where it belongs. And uh we'll hope for the best.
>> We will get there.
>> We even found the gecko, the web, our Gerald. We found the live one. So yeah, soon. Like I said, I've been running around these two and some of other other rangers and guides here from the number from Gondwana. We've been running around these dunes in the mornings and evenings to catch some geckos and to have that on on film and we will post that sometime later on the channel. But it was fun seeing these guys how they run. We all tried catching deos and yeah.
It was running around. Yeah. And the the spiders and all that. So we'll even the edit and I thought these things are this big. And yeah, today we find this small one.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So it's going to have more fun. The water will um fill up now. And by the way, alo why aren't here some orexes currently at the water? Why aren't there any or currently? They're all in the green fields on top of the dune field at the moment. There's enough uh moisture in the vegetation in the vegetation at the moment. So, they don't really have to rely on this water source. Um yeah, this is more for some of the other species at the moment. Uh a lot of the birds will be drinking here and you'll get your jackals, hyenas, etc. But at the moment, there are big herds of orics out there. Uh some of the biggest herds I've seen in many, many years, 70 to 100 strong. That was phenomenal.
>> Yep. The bird behind you flowing up and down.
>> There's our familiar chat >> jumping up and down there. But yeah, good.
>> Yeah.
>> Good. Okay guys, um so to all our viewers and chatters out there, um our moderators, thank you for all you guys do and soon we have Geriatric and Firefly and them coming to visit. So in mid May they will actually come here to the water hole and they'll be chatting.
Unfortunately at that time I won't be able to join the guys um or girls um and they'll but they'll be around here and have a look and probably as I know geriatric you'll walk around and you'll take a picture of the tree that fell over and uh it still looks alive from here.
>> It doesn't for now. Yeah, for now let's >> don't resilient. Yeah. So um but he'll probably take a picture too of that as well.
>> So we'll be um enjoying just the sunset here in the background and enjoy watching Namovia cam. And thank you for subscribing, guys.
>> Guys, enjoy the calls of the barking geckos which are starting now just before sunset. That chip chip chip chip chip sound you hear, those are all small geckos, barking geckos, which will only come out after night start feeding on some of the lovely insect activity that has been risen from this lovely green grass that they have at the moment.
>> Yeah. I mean, by the way, we actually on the um we are here on the Gonduana property and um you will notice that um they also have a channel, a YouTube channel and that's actually where we have some of the footage with uh Dane on it, the Inet Rers. Um you there's some footage of you around Namibia on that one as well. So, you're more than welcome to check there as well. And yeah, don't forget to How did they >> No, I got um Oh, yeah. Every time I bring some new people around here to there's something special happening here. Um but now this one would be very difficult because they used to Namibians and uh like I won last year, I might lose against them at the Bas competition.
>> We can try that. Maybe over there.
>> Hey, we just stand here. You choose one and we have to make a me.
>> Where you going?
>> We will just stand here and >> yeah, you just choose one. Choose one of your >> I'm going to go for weight >> about the weight theo dropping.
They're trying to take the giraffe dropping.
>> They're looking for the big wag.
>> Yeah, >> they've been doing it before. Um >> outside >> and yeah, I got you.
>> I get him for the big one here. Don't keep it in your mouth too long. It is getting a a nice taste. Yeah. All right.
>> Oh, today was not good. Okay. Let me go mark the market. You know where you check it?
>> Yes.
>> That's why they call in there.
The Dane beat me. I need to practice him more.
>> Should be another time.
>> No, there's only one P on this one.
>> Oh dear. Okay. And yeah, the rain is going, but it's nice and green. And uh I'll wait till the next rainy season until I do my next rain and we'll take you to do. Awesome. Great.
>> Happy viewing, guys. Yeah, enjoy.
>> Enjoy. Thank you. And uh we do the green the night in the bike.
>> I don't I wanted to do the but I I can't. My my left leg is so on the right hand side.
This one didn't go down.
Let me rather do that uh another time.
Thanks everybody. Thanks for watching.
You will enjoy the content.
