Extreme Flooding in Prahova, Ploiești & Vaslui, Romania After Violent Storms | July 20, 2026
Added:Romania was hit by severe storms and flooding on July 20th as relentless rain overwhelmed roads, rivers, and neighborhoods across Prahova County.
Under orange and yellow weather alerts, emergency crews responded to rising water while residents watched flood conditions worsen throughout the day.
The most serious disruption occurred on national road DN1 near Nistorești where floodwaters forced the closure of one of Romania's busiest highways.
Heavy rain also triggered mudslides between Breaza and Comarnic covering the road with mud, rocks, and debris and slowing traffic through the Prahova Valley.
The scenes highlighted how quickly extreme weather can bring major transportation routes to a standstill.
In Ploiești, powerful afternoon storms flooded streets around the South Railway Station leaving vehicles struggling through deep water.
Across the nearby commune of Adunați, about 50 homes were affected as continuous rainfall pushed water into residential areas.
The Prahova River rose close to a bridge increasing fears of further flooding if rain continued.
Elsewhere, Vaslui was battered by thunderstorms with strong winds, torrential rain, and the threat of hail.
Authorities urged residents to remain cautious as crews monitored rivers, cleared debris, and assessed damage.
With more rain still possible, communities across Romania remained on alert hoping the dangerous weather would soon ease.
