Two beaches closed due to toxic blue-green algaeAdded:
Well, now for a heads-up if you're planning to enjoy this weather by heading to Lake Pomme de Terre anytime soon with two popular swim beaches there closed because of toxic blue-green algae. Now, the US Army Corps of Engineers tells us recent testing found dangerous toxin levels in parts of the water. Now, the closures are in effect at Nemo Beach and Wheatland Beach at Pomme de Terre Lake in Hickory County.
Toxic algae levels exceeded state health warning standards. Everyone's being urged to avoid water that looks bright green or has surface scum. Now, pets are especially at risk if they drink the water and ingest it. Boating and fishing are still allowed and officials will keep the area closed until further notice.
