True journalistic integrity requires the courage to speak truth to power even when it risks personal consequences, as demonstrated by student journalist Santiago Campos who risked his CBS scholarship to call out media consolidation and corporate journalistic failures; this courage is essential for democracy because corporate media often prioritizes entertainment and political relationships over informing the public, and individuals must find ways to be useful and speak up in their communities to counter authoritarian narratives.

MAGA FREAKS After Student CALLS THEM OUT!Added:
Folks, a student journalist who was awarded a scholarship by CBS in honor of the legendary Mike Wallace just eviscerated CBS and Barry Weiss for destroying the network's journalistic integrity. This kid has more courage than basically every politician in Washington DC right now. Let's watch this American hero stand up for journalistic integrity and call these MAGA hacks out.
Before we get started, make sure you're subscribed to the channel. Be sure to engage with this video. help us to build an independent media company that can do what the corporate media will not. Stand up to Donald Trump, take our country back from MAGA, and just fundamentally tell the truth.
>> And while I want to thank CBS News for funding this generous gift towards my education, I want to also acknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the namesake of this scholarship.
As corporate elites take hold, As corporate elites take hold over the very pipes through which our information flows, journalism that serves the people becomes increasingly harder to come by, yet ever more crucial. And what the people want is the truth. So, if at any time you hesitate to utter the word genocide or remain silent in the face of blatant lies, remember to ask yourself, who is this for? I hope you choose us.
Thank you.
That was quite frankly one of the most incredible [Β __Β ] things I've ever seen in my life because this is a young man.
His name is Santiago Compos and he has won this scholarship in honor of Mike Wallace. has put his life on the line to speak his truth, to say what a lot of people won't do. And I want you to think about how many people are so performative in their lives. They speak out when it's convenient for them. They talk about media consolidation. They call out the Epstein class, what have you, whatever it is, and they do it with no real stakes on the line. And I often talk about this on my show, but it's easy for me to sit in my studio and say the things that I believe in and talk with all of you because it's safe. But for this kid who's putting his life on the line, it's not safe because CBS could pull this scholarship from him.
They could make his life difficult. They could stand in the way of his future career prospects given the way that CBS and other companies use scholarships like this to create a pipeline of future talent. This is someone who had something important to say to call out the genocide that's occurring in this world today. To call out Barry Weiss and CBS and the corporate overlords who are destroying CBS's journalistic integrity on behalf, by the way, of the Trump administration. And for him to make this point, who is this for? That's fundamentally not different than something we talk a lot about on this show, which is who benefits, right? And we don't have enough people in this country that are willing to do that.
It's why I said in the intro, this guy has more courage, more integrity than almost every other member of Congress, including a lot of Democrats on my side, too. People who refuse to speak out and do the right thing when it counts. And I have a lot of respect for him. And I look forward to the career that he's going to have because he's shown an incredible amount of integrity right now at a time when we're not getting a lot of it from the corporate media. They won't tell the truth about Donald Trump's corruption. They won't tell the truth about what's going on in Iran right now. They won't tell the truth about how our campaign finance system is being manipulated. They don't want to talk about the Epstein files. They don't want to talk about the fact that the president of the United States is declining cognitively, physically, in every possible way. They don't want to talk about it. Just a distraction to them. It makes you a burden that you would even ask questions about what this administration is doing. And here is Santiago Compost speaking his truth, putting his life on the line. It's a hell of a thing to see. Now, let's go a little bit deeper here for a second because it is a dangerous time, frankly, to be a journalist in America today because the Trump administration and the MAGA movement will go after you if you report on anything that they don't like.
And we know that the Pentagon and the Trump administration, the DOJ have been targeting journalists. We know that they've been telling networks like CBS that they'll pull their licenses if they don't report favorably about the war in Iran. They're not reporting the truth to you. And the people who own these networks, the people who have been installed to run them, like Barry Weiss, certainly are not telling the truth about what's going on in this country.
Barry Weiss has pulled multiple 60-minute uh uh stories that are negative about the Trump administration on ICE, on Iran, on other things. She is meddling with what those reporters are doing. It's why there's a max exodus from CBS. I'll also remind you that we're barely a few days removed from Steven Coar being removed from the network, which was clearly political. No doubt about that. But here, let's just talk about this for a second. Julie K.
Brown, who is an excellent, excellent journalist, being attacked by Eric Trump because he doesn't like a story that she's reported about how Trump and his family are profitering off of changing the name of the Palm Beach International Airport to the Trump International Airport, which again is a disgusting thing for a sitting president of the United States to do. But these people have built a movement that is so vain, so circulated around one man that they can't understand that this legacy building they're doing in real time just pisses the American people off when the economy is so broken. But here's what Eric Trump had to say to attack Julie K.
Brown. JKB journalist, please have some journalistic integrity. The agreement expressly prohibits any profit sharing from the sale of merchandise at the airport. It does not. That is absolutely a lie. Either you or Congressman Leaven can't read or didn't bother to read the agreement before posting this clickbait garbage. Please print an immediate retraction at Miami Herald. And again, that's what they do. They lie about what they're doing. They lie about the corruption. They lie about the theft.
They lie about the war. They lie about the Epstein files. They lie about Trump's health. They lie about everything. Lie. Lie. Lie. Dig deeper.
dig deeper, dig deeper, hope the American people move on. And unfortunately, that works for them. And what they're trying to do right now is they're trying to get Julie K. Brown fired, just like they tried to get Charles Barkley fired for speaking out against the way immigrants are being treated in this country, just like the way they tried to get Jimmy Kimmel fired for making a joke that they didn't like.
Just like the reactions they had to the Charlie Kirk jokes at the roast of Kevin Hart a few weeks ago. That's what they do. They use and abuse the power of the federal government to go after anybody who stands up to them or anybody who doesn't agree with their very narrow specific worldview. And that leads me back to Santiago Compass, the kid from the beginning of this who spoke out and put his scholarship on the line, put his career on the line as a young man to speak his truth. The risk is there with all this media consolidation, but it's also there because of what Donald Trump and his administration are doing. He's made himself a target. This went incredibly viral online. You don't think Don Jr. and Eric Trump and Donald Trump himself aren't going to eventually attack this kid? You don't think that there's not a list now that his name is on inside the DOJ that they should go after? They're going after everybody, guys. Right now, Cash Patel has the FBI investigating the reporter who reported on his excessive drinking and erratic behavior. They're going after my friend Don Lemon, claiming that he attacked a church instead of what he was actually doing, which was reporting on that as an independent content creator, an independent journalist. They're going after everybody because they want you to be silent. They want you to think twice before you speak out against this administration. They want you to think twice before you pull out your phone and you document ICE abusing an immigrant community or shooting Alex Prey three times in the back. They want you to think that's going to happen to you.
They want everybody in this country to think twice before they stand up to them physically, legally, mentally, in every possible way. They're trying to break you. That's what they want to do.
They've come after me, guys. We've talked about it before on this show. The House Judiciary Committee and Laura Lumer have come after me repeatedly trying to destroy my business, trying to disparrage my good name on conspiracy theories that have no basis. In fact, Laura Loomer literally attacked me today, guys. I literally saw it like 2 minutes before I started shooting this video. It's crazy what these people do.
But they have no ideas for the future of this country. The president's approval rating is plummeting and the only way they can win is by rigging the midterms and silencing their opposition. So again, I go back to the courage aspect of this for a second because Santiago Compos, I may never meet this person. I may never hear about him again. I have no idea what his life is going to look like. But he has now forever changed his life by speaking up. The easy thing to do is to take your scholarship, say thank you, keep your head down, do your work, not get in the way, not make waves. The harder thing to do is to stand up for what you believe in. And I equate that to my own life because when I was 18, and I don't think I've done anything similar to what Santiago Compost has done here because he's really potentially disrupted his life by saying his truth about CBS media consolidation and the rest of this. But when I was 18, I dropped out of college to go protest the Iraq war and work for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
And I put my life on the line and changed the direction of my life. And I spoke out in a way that I felt was in in in tandem with my values and what I believed in. And that was a hard thing for me to do because my parents were pissed at me. I ruined my financial uh uh management. I didn't get my college degree for another 10 years. I changed my life in ways that were good and ways that were bad. But you do those things when you stand up for what you believe in. So the question that I'm asking the people who are watching this right now beyond watching this YouTube video and engaging with this and subscribing to my channel, which God love every single one of you for being a member of this community that we're building, what are you doing to help improve your community? What are you doing to stand up to these fascists? What are you doing? It doesn't have to be what Santiago Compost did. It doesn't have to be, but what are you doing? How can you use your unique skills, your unique talents at this moment in time where we need people to be useful? How can you be useful? What do you got inside of you?
Because it's not one big thing that's going to save us. It's not one person that's going to save us. Like people keep looking for a savior inside the Democratic party that's going to fix the Democratic party that's going to arise like Barack Obama did in 2007 and 2008.
It's not what's going to happen. It's a million acts of resistance. And it's going to be a lot of ones that you remember and a lot of ones that you forget, big stuff and small stuff. And so my question to you is think about Santiago Campos the next time you have an opportunity to speak up, the next time you have a way to be useful. And it doesn't have to be a big platform. It doesn't have to be a speech. There's going to be something that goes viral.
It could be as simple, by the way, as being a good parent that day. It could be as simple as just checking on a friend that day. That's your act of resistance. Don't let these bastards grind you down. Don't let them control the narrative. Don't let them twist your reality. Don't let them tell you that this is okay. It's not. This media consolidation is out of control. This abuse of the federal government's powers to go after people is out of control.
And a corporate media that is disinterested in telling you the truth, that is disinterested in educating you about what is happening in this country is a threat to our democracy and we should speak out against that. That's why, by the way, independent content creators and journalists like my friend Katie Fang, like Aaron Parnes, like Don Lemon, that's why they're doing so well right now. That's why people trust us and not the corporate media. And I want to end this video by showing you this amazing clip from Amy Goodman at Democracy Now, who is just an incredible journalist and an incredible human being and somebody I think that you should listen to when it comes to why we need good journalists who go out there and do this work because they stand up to corruption. They stand up to the liars.
And right now, CBS bowing down to Donald Trump puts your life in danger, puts our democracy in danger, makes it harder for this country to move forward. makes it harder for you to succeed and live a life of dignity that you deserve.
>> You have a president who calls the press the enemy of the people. That is extremely dangerous. There's a reason why freedom of the press is enshrined in the first amendment of the constitution.
Reporters know no borders. We are a global news organization and what we do mostly is bring out the voices of people at the grassroots who are closest to the story. You know, I always talk about going to where the silence is. That is our job as journalists. And sometimes it's not so quiet. It's rockus. It's rowdy. People are organizing, but it doesn't hit the corporate media radar screen. And that's where we live. You've been remarkably consistent over the course of your career. What has driven you and what motivates you throughout your career?
>> To hold those in power to account.
That's our job as journalists. were not there to win a popularity contest. We're not a party to the parties. Um whether I'm questioning uh former the late President George HW Bush or President Clinton, uh whether we are talking with public officials today, it's to get at the truth or in many cases there are truths. I'm not talking about um facts that um are just solid and you really can't question them, but hearing how people perceive things. And I think the most important thing is talking to people at the target end of in our case the most powerful country on earth, the United States, of foreign policy. So when you have the US-Israeli war in Iran, you're talking to Iranians, Iranian professors, academics, poets.
when we're talking about the hundreds of journalists who've died in Gaza, talking to people in Gaza, Palestinians, talking to Israeli peace activists, going to the heart of the story that >> we'll stop right there because one, I think this is just an incredible message at a time when the media is an absolute mess, at least the corporate media is an absolute mess right now and spending more time on entertainment than educating and bringing people together and trying to explain what the hell is going on in this country. But I I want to just really zero in on two things that Amy just said there, and I highly recommend, by the way, you check out her new documentary, which I'm told is very good, and I just added to my list because my chief of staff told me how good it was. Um, two is, you know, go where the silence is, right? Like, look for the areas that in your community, in your life, where people are not engaged, where you can make a difference with your unique talents. I just think that that's a very well said thing because there's so many things that aren't being reported. We spend so much time up here on every stupid thing that Donald Trump wants to do. He creates this echo chamber of noise and it just makes you want to disconnect and, you know, not pay attention and just drown your sorrows out and watching, you know, stupid TikToks. And there's time for that, okay? I I drown my sorrows out with with YouTube shorts all the time and watching old clips of TV shows that I like and there's there's value to that because you can turn your brain off.
But, you know, go to where you can be useful and go to where people are not paying as much attention, I think is valuable. But the other thing on the popularity contest thing for a second is there is this club in Washington DC, particularly amongst the media elite, that they all want to be friends with one another. They want to go to dinner with one another. They want to keep their access and information. And that's really why I hated the White House correspondence dinner. And I shot a video um that went up the day before the White House correspondence dinner incident that happened, whatever the hell that ended up being, because we really don't know, and I don't trust the story that the administration is telling us here. I hated the fact that there's just like a big party for the White House press corps and the and the White House and and members of Congress just get together and party with one another.
And there was a time when there was value to that when we valued the First Amendment and we valued journalistic integrity in this country, but now it's just one giant circle jerk. That's what pisses me off about that stuff. It's like Barry Weiss has her table at CBS and sitting there as Pete Hexath and RFK Jr. and other members of the cabinet.
Like what are we doing? The value of the White House correspondence dinner used to be that you could invite a comedian who would destroy the president of the United States. It was an exercise in free speech in the first amendment that we could bring in basically a court jester to mock the president to his face and nothing could happen in that court jester no matter what he said. But the president refused to even show up. He refused to even show up if there was a comedian. Instead, they brought in a mentalist, guys. A mentalist, which is disgusting. And then on top of that, these continued attacks on journalists.
These continued attacks on our free speech. These continued attacks on anybody who stands up to Donald Trump and his administration and speaks truth to power and what they believe. And they've come after me, Don Lemon.
They're come after everybody. Okay?
They're trying to dismantle Democratic Party infrastructure like Act Blue right now. There is no limit to what they will do to try to twist our democracy to make sure that nobody stands up to them will ever lose. This is why I called him a fascist because at the end of the day, Donald Trump wants one party control. He wants Donald Trump to run the Republican party and he wants it to be the only game in town. That's what he wants and he's failing at that. Democrats are winning a lot of elections right now, even if they're undeserved because the Democratic party has not changed fully yet. But we have an opportunity to take our democracy back. We have an opportunity to keep pushing for that and make sure that this never happens again.
So that somebody like Santiago Compos, the kid at the beginning of this video who put his life on the line, put his scholarship on the line, put his career on the line to speak out against CBS and media consolidation and what they're doing at the FCC. We need to make sure that there's a future for him in independent media or elsewhere. Whatever he chooses to do with his life as he goes off to college with this scholarship, we need to make sure that he honors, by the way, the legacy of Mike Wallace, who was an amazing journalist. Like, we need to do that.
And we have an opportunity to do it. The next couple of months, the next couple years are going to be critical to that.
Starts with winning the midterms in November. Find your way to be useful.
Find your way to speak out because we need you right now. And please make sure that you're subscribed to the channel.
help us keep building this independent media company that can stand up to MAGA, stand up to these hacks. We're going to keep doing that work even when it's tiring, even when it's difficult. And make sure you like, share, comment, hype. Everything makes a difference. And please hit the little uh bell icon down below to get an update the next time I post a video. Thank you.
