This video demonstrates how mathematical analysis can reveal discrepancies in game score calculations. The creator uses Excel to track player numbers and expedition scores, discovering that the math works correctly when sabotage missions are excluded from calculations. The analysis shows that including sabotage missions (which subtract points) creates significant discrepancies in the expected score totals, while removing them results in calculations that match the actual game scores within only a few points. This illustrates how mathematical formulas in games may have hidden variables or conditions that aren't immediately apparent, and how systematic data analysis can uncover the true mechanics behind seemingly complex scoring systems.

No Man's Sky The Math Works If You Don't Subtract Sabotage Missions - Player Mock Up Of A New Update
Added:Well, how old did you daddy there? Chums chums. I'm back inside of No Man's Sky and I'm back looking at the map. You can see I've got my Excel sheet open. I've got all the lovely figures over here from inside of the game. And uh I've gone over to Pharaoh of Uklid's channel and watched how he did the maths inside of his Excel spreadsheet and I managed to change the actual sum to how it should be now. What I missed was the apprentices. I didn't put the brackets in into my sum. So, and there's a few people inside my comments that pointed that out, too. So, this is the player numbers that we've got up here. These are the actual points. I haven't done sabotage because even when Pharaoh of Uklid tries to add in the minusing of sabotage, the totals are out by a massive amount. But anyway, currently the difference in score. So that's the game score there.
Um, and that's the math that's sort of like equaled out to this this score over here, which gives you I mean that's the that's the score when you add these to when you add these together that gives you this score. This is the game score and the difference is 4209, 4228, and 4111 respectively. I mean, it's it's out by just a couple of thousand points, but it's close. I mean, sabotage could have some sort of bearing on this, but this is a plus integer.
It's not a minus. So, if you do do add sabotage in, for some reason, sabotage is probably given a plus of some description, but we can't work out what.
But it's not out by a great factor. Now, someone pointed out to me that if you just times the the players count by a percentage of around about the percentage that we're on for completing this actual expeditiony thing, around about the mid-40s, it gives you a very close total to what we're seeing over here. So, where I've got the rig percent, I've also got the rig score and then the difference being just there. and it's actually less than the difference above. But yeah, I can play with these integers to get it as close to as possible. And this is as close as I've managed to sit it at the moment to these scores. But I what I'm wondering is now that the player totals have been updated. So weavers apparently yesterday they were on 80 80,226.
Well, now they're on 80,290.
They gained an extra 100. What?
Seriously, I just can't see that happening.
Really, that many players in a 24hour period have joined Weavers?
I don't think so, mate. Okay. Well, let's let's put in the totals over here as well. And so, the total over here is gone up again. 81 1 06.
And we got another total over here. Oh, sages have gained quite a lot. They've gone from 79 up to 8 0 43 8.
Okay. And now that's thrown these totals out massively because I haven't updated the scores yet. So the game score for Weavers is now 3895 282.
Okay. Did I do that right? Hopefully I did. Well, that that just looks huge.
Now the game score for Royals is 37 9 0 6 85.
Boom.
And here the game score is 37 5 8 759 the game score. Boom. Okay. All right.
Well, that's that's a bit mental. But now I have to update these totals over here as well, don't I? So, let me just do these. 484 890 and restore 4 38 9992.
So, I might as well put the sabotage in even though it doesn't actually factor at the moment in any of this strange math.
Okay, we're looking at the difference there. I mean, that that's there's a big difference between the game score and the actual math score. Anyway, it's actually grown. It's actually grown by quite a fair bit naturality.
In fact, it's it's nearly as much as the sabotage school.
I'm starting to lose my freaking mind trying to work out this math stuff. Like I say, I'm not a mathematician. I'm not an Excel champion or anything like that.
I mean, I think my Excel skills are fairly average, but you know, it's it is what it is.
Okay, let's put these ones in. 43. I'd be better if I had a number keypad. I don't. 3 83.
And there 386 43 4. Might as well do the sabotage. 364 [music] 917.
Did I do the sabotage up here? No, I didn't.
3 7 8 4 9 6.
Okay. Right. Well, now we've got the difference of two and four and two, which is exactly what um Pharaoh was getting the other day. So, the difference there is outstandingly bang on. We've only got two points, four points, and two points in it. So it will look like maybe it's not rigged by these percentages that we were seeing well which got alluded to by people out there in the verse that said Captain Steve I think these are slightly closer for me to get those close I'd have to play with these digits and have a look to see now I was wondering whether it would be based on the percentage of completion that we're on. So we're on 45% up there but you can see here this one's already at 46. So let's just put them all at 45%. Let's just have a look how that looks. So, doing it by 45%, it's still out by a real great large number on on all of these.
So, I I I don't think it is rigged like I like was alluding to before. However, if you do add in the sabotage points, these the difference between this is insane. I don't think they're adding the sabotage in. So, I don't think there's any point in doing the sabotage missions because they don't seem to be in factored in. Perhaps I mean the speculation that uh good old Pharaoh of Uklid has come up with is perhaps the sabotage because it's doing the minusing is actually slowing down the progress to less than what Hello Games are happy with. But I'm rather skeptical of these player numbers cuz if you just add up all the player numbers, let's just do that quickly. equals um I mean I I can do it as a sum I suppose. Sum bang this plus this plus this close bracket and that's the amount of players that are currently there. Two 242,000.
Well, that that's that's a bigger number than I can freaking calculate in my head at the moment. I just put it as money, so it puts in a freaking bracket. But yeah, it's 242,834 players.
That That's crazy. But I guess that's across all platforms, right? So across all platforms, that's pretty darn freaking craziness.
Let's do that. Cool.
So, if we were to just to factor in the sabotage, anyway, this is the actual math that I'm looking at from Pharaoh of Uklid's um video, and he's far better Excel than me. I would never have thought to put zero minus and then sum.
Yeah, he's he's got better excels than me. Yeah. So, anyway, let's let's put that into ours just to show you just how different it makes the actual scores at the end of it all.
Oh, and there's one of the comments that I had about using the the uh divide the points by players by each team by about 46.5%.
That's the only math you need. That's where I was getting that from, people in the verse.
>> Check out this new merch. It has the captain of all the Steves on it.
When you do add in the sabotage, the actual difference is huge. It's well out.
However, the ones that are sort of the rigged ones that are just a a timing of this are a lot closer.
So, I really don't know what's going on mathwise, people. But when you do take the sabotage out. So if I just take those out, that's the only way that you can make it make sense. So if anything, the missions not worth doing are probably the sabotage ones. But I'm wondering whether, you know, at some point Hello Games might add in the sabotage ones just to make it more of a competition, I guess. But it it's not going to make a huge difference in the overall score, right?
So yeah, I really don't know. I don't know what's going on mathwise, but I just wanted to point out people that the maths is closer when you remove the sabotage scores and the bearer of Uklid's map is bang on. Now I have reached out to Zayn and asked Zayn to do the maths cuz Zayn lives for maths. If anyone can work this out, it's Zayn. So hopefully Zay's World would get on this and and shine a bit of light in it.
Perhaps where me and Pharaoh haven't looked. But for now people, I kind of wonder whether it's something more simple. Some sort of math done on the player numbers because I just don't think the player numbers should be rising by the amount they're rising.
Every single day they're going up. So, what I might do is every single day is look at how much these player numbers are going up by and if it's kind of a a pretty much unified amount that they're going up by, right? Okay, let's do that.
Let's track that.
Okay, John. Well, I've captured what they were for day one. We're going to start from today. We're going to start from today, day one, day two, and we're going to do it for a full week. And we're going to see if there's going to be a pattern in how many players join each team over a 7day period, right? And if it seems to be a pretty much stable fixed amount across each team, then I don't know. I don't know what to make of it. We'll see how we get along over the next seven days.
Well, anyway, all the maths aside, let's get to playing the game. Right. So, neutralize local swarm. Don't mind if I do. Let's go. Neutralize.
Neutralize mode. Activate them and aced.
Let's fly it out to neutralize these good bikes.
Yeah. Well, we've arrived.
Now, I have noticed if you hold down L2, it automatically locks onto the kit bags and then you can just press X a couple of times. Look, it's automatically tracking them.
Pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow.
Normally L2 is just break, right?
Well, now it sort of does a track and trace inside of this expedition. It's actually really makes it freaking easy.
No skill involved. Yeah, there's that.
Lovely jobly. You got them. Just got to make sure you don't just hold the button down and exhaust your weapons. That's about it.
Okay. Right, back to space anomaly.
Acha zoom.
Oh, chums. I've got somebody that sent me a mockup of what they would like to see me come into No Man's Sky. So, I'll put their details over here on the side of the screen, and I'll put up the first area of their actual mockup. So, the first part of the mockup, you can see there that they would like to have larger fighting arenas for pets, more pets as a given, and all sorts of crazy gnarly stuff that they would like to see coming into the iteration. Now, I have got a template myself, and I wouldn't mind putting together something like this myself, but they've done a fantastic job of putting together what they like to come see come into the verse. And some of the ideas here are actually really quite awesome. But yeah, hopefully you can just pause this and zoom in a little bit or whatever and have a better look at what they've got on there. There you go. I've got a procure essential supplies for Apollo.
Have I already got them? Yes. Yes, I do.
So, I'll leave that actual template up on the screen and I'll do like a little slow scroll on it if I can so you can see everything in full detail there as I just give the pie right over to Paulo.
That mission is done. But there's some great ideas inside of there, people. I mean, I'm not going to say that every single idea there that I'd like to come to fruition. I mean, the whole player combat thing, as long as it's optional, it can't hurt and it could tie in quite well to this. You know, if you were going to these rendevous points and then doing battle with the actual players that you meet there, it could be a fun one. And as we reach the tail end of the u the mockup that we've got here, it does mention about larger skeletons and all sorts of other stuff. But the thing I find quite funny is the image of the female geck in the back alleys.
Why put her in the back alleys? But yeah, there's some there's some lovely ideas there, but there's some that I'm like, okay, all right. Well, that's definitely something that wouldn't have crossed my radar if I didn't read it.
But now I've read it, I kind of want to see it. [laughter] So, thank you very much for brightening up my day. And hopefully other people was looking at your mockup because some of this is freaking awesome. Some of it is a little bit well, I think that's a bit cheesy, but actually it's actually raised a smile on my face and if it's optional, I don't overly mind. So, yeah, but it would give us more to do when it comes to the Xenopet Arena and battling.
For me personally, I mean, I would like to see aquariums for the fish that we catch and actual fish models and stuff.
Build our own aquariums. And I would like fauna and pet pens so we can actually have our own farms if you like.
What the actual fudge is going on here.
Right. Well, I'd better take off the template so you can see. I've got to land on the side of a freaking cliff face.
Well, this is a fun one.
Not okay.
Have I got to use my terrain manipulator and actually find things? Is that what's is that what this one is? Or do I just interact with something? Thank fudge for that. I just interact with something. I didn't actually read what the mission was. Yeah, we'll take that off of there.
And um hopefully Yep, there we go. Flood the system of nanites. There we go. Dundly and done.
Nice. You see, that's the one I I don't think we need to do the sabotage. I think we could be wasting our time with the sabotage. Going by the math right now, sabotage makes no sense at all. And the math that Pharaoh of Ukalid done, thank you very much to Pharaoh of Ukalid without him showing exactly what the sums were inside of Freicken XL. I was I was going too basic. I wasn't using the apprentices. I wasn't using the sum function correctly. So, thank you very much, Pharaoh of Uklid. Right. Well, let's fly on in. It's a long time since I've actually used Excel and even when I do use Excel, it's mainly for like, you know, accountancy stuff and then it's simple math, you know, you just adding stuff together as a and then you can use that little zed symbol or you can use the auto sum tool. So, yeah, I I'm not super great with Excel. If I've got reams and reams of data, I'm good at pivot tables and stuff like that, but I'm not not so good at formulas. Right.
So, here we go. We've got we got all of those done. That's all three done, people. You can see across the top there, I got 49, 48, and 49 because one of the missions yesterday, the restore mission, wasn't working. It was just grayed out. Couldn't access it.
Couldn't do anything about it. So, there we go, chums. I've done for the day.
That's all my missions done for today.
Uh, I did some very early doors this morning. And I'm probably going to do some after I finish work and probably not do a video on it because today is the Friday and I'll be doing the weekend mission probably on my PlayStation inside my legacy save with my crew. So hopefully see you for that later on. But anyway, just wanted to let you know that the maths is actually only out by a couple of digits. We're talking like four, two, and two. And that even that's a little bit weird, but it's it's not super weird, you know? It's almost there. And I can deal with almost there.
What I don't get is what happened to sabotage and why would had sabotage in because it's not actually sabotaging anything. It's doing nothing. And that's what made the math looked wrong. Right?
If it wasn't for the sabotage being there, the math would have looked correct at glance. You go, "Oh yeah, dirty math. That's about right." But because you can't look at it and go, "That's about right." Because of the sabotage figures with the minuses, that's what caused all this debacle in the first place. So, it's not 100% transparent is what I'm getting at people. And I can see why people are confused by the numbers. So, everybody out there that hit me up to say, "These numbers and the maths don't look right, mate." I would have to agree. Oh, I've also been pulled up on people saying, "Captain Steve, you're English. It's maths. It's not math." Well, I went to a boy school and it was a grammar school and our teachers, we had teachers from all over the world and my math teacher was American. So, we used to go, "Get your math book out. Okay. Right. And we're doing math, you know, and because he called it math, it just rubbed off. I was young. I was impressionable and it stuck. So if I say math rather than maths, blame my maths teacher. I mean, I still say math teacher then, didn't I?
But sometimes I will say math and sometimes I'll say maths. I don't freaking care. I pronounce things how I feel like pronouncing them at the time that I pronuncate them. Okay? Just like that. Till next time. Goodbye. Goodbye.
And goodbye again. Captain Steve, Captain Steve.
