The video explains that Article 19 of the Indian Constitution guarantees citizens the freedom to speak, express opinions, and form associations, meaning the right to dissent belongs to all citizens regardless of their alignment with power or establishment. Using the 'Cockroach Janta Party' case study, where unemployed youth transformed a derogatory label into a political movement, the content illustrates that dissent is not a crime but a fundamental human value. Historical examples like David Thoreau's civil disobedience and Abbie Hoffman's protests demonstrate that those in power have a responsibility to listen to dissenting voices rather than labeling or silencing them, as marginalized groups will rise up when their voices are suppressed.

UPSC Ethics GS4 😳 | Cockroach Janta Party Case Study 🔥 #upsc #cjpAdded:
In 2026, the Chief Justice of India called the unemployed youth cockroaches. Overnight, an entire generation of people turned to cockroaches. This was not just an insult. It was a constitutional moment.
Does the right to speak, think, and dissent belong to only those who align themselves to power, to establishment, to system? The answer is no. Article 19 says that we have the freedom to speak and express, the freedom to form association. And you know what? The cockroach Janata Party did exactly that overnight. They converted this ideas, this perspective, and formed a moment that turned into a political, satirical party. So, dissent.
Dissent has always made those in powers uncomfortable. David Thoreau went to jail rather than pay tax to a government he didn't believe in. John Stuart Mill, the famous philosopher, put it this way.
The only way to know if an idea is right is to let that idea be challenged. GS4 ethics tells us dissent is not a crime, it is a human value. Those in power have a responsibility to listen, not to label. When you call a generation cockroaches, don't think that they will stay silent. They will rise up. Or you can leave it like you want to. 1968 may there was this protester, Abbie Hoffman, who very famously protested against the US government who was curbing down on civil rights. Or what you call what I believe in. It's relevant.
Give me freedom.
