In cubism painting, artists create a 3D effect by strategically placing light and dark areas within shapes, using colors like yellow ochre, brown, and pink to establish depth and dimension, with Picasso being one of the key artists who pioneered this style.

Krejci Artist is live! Part 2 cubism practice
Added:I'm working on my uh part two of this cubism style.
So, I want to darken some of this hair in here.
some yellow ochre.
I'll put a little brown in it, too.
just to get a some different tone in there.
So it's just not, you know, all orange.
So, we got our summer pep again in August.
I'm not sure if I'm going to get a booth this year.
They charge a lot of money.
I think it ends up being like $320 for the booth.
So, you know, Saturday and Sunday you have to sell you have to sell just to recoup your uh your $320, you know. So, I'm trying to get those lines uh a little straighter so I don't have to uh black to outline it.
Uh Let's see how close they got.
A little darker.
How's it doing?
I'm going to move down the shirt now. Do all this and maybe I'll do the hands.
after that.
So this is two.
There it is. I'm like looking dark brown.
Now here is uh like cubism.
couple artists that got the credit for creating this. Uh I I know Picasso was one of them.
I know some of this is going to be shadow type in the hand as well.
Yeah, I looked at I looked at the cubism art and I thought, ah, this looks this looks fairly uh a little different.
I think I could handle So this uh I sketched this out with a pencil at first and basically I looked at some of Picasso's paintings and so there's usually what you got to do is create a couple some shadows in here on every you create these shapes. So you want to have like a dark and a light area. Light, dark. See where the shadows are?
All this is light over here. This is more dark.
So it's pretty uh straightforward as far as putting your colors up.
So, these fingers here, uh, we'll put dark in between the fingers here and at the bottom.
And then I'll be the rest all be like a pinkish color.
Everybody is working for the weekend.
Everybody needs a second chance on part one. Uh this was on my other channel if you want to see part one.
Ended up putting the black in because I wanted to show everybody uh because I didn't have any of the lines in yet. So it kind of looked silly just with color up there.
So once I put the uh once I put the color in it started looking pretty the lines I mean the black lines it started looking pretty good.
All right. For the the skin, we're going to do like a light pink.
This is my sketch. I can show you the paper. I sketched it out and then uh then I put it on the canvas because if you saw me painting uh the other day, I started to do something pre-end and oh my god, I got kind of like created not a masterpiece.
The painting went sideways to say the least.
I'm not even sure if this kind of styles in anymore. That's why I kind of wanted to go do that the summer fest this year to see if people are still into this kind of art.
I know I don't see any of the art here in Seattle. I don't see anybody doing this.
Everybody's working for the weekend.
This is a foot down here.
I call this is the dancing uh entertainer or something.
I don't know what I'm going to call it.
I'm going to name it something, but she's got a hat on.
Looks like she's dancing.
All this is going to get outlined. So, who do we got in here today? Sunday.
Sunday.
Ola, Grace.
Barbara, how's it going?
That landscape from last night. Oh man, that thing was terrible, huh?
You guys leave every time I say your name. Let's see. I'm going to make these blue like a dark.
The color scheme on this is a purple, yellow, orange, and and maybe some blues.
I'm trying to keep uh the colors kind of simplified.
That looks cool.
Yeah, there was another artist besides Picasso that did the cubism.
I think they were both doing it at the same time.
It was their uh alternative to uh you know cuz all the stuff he was doing before was all his artwork was flat. So they wanted they created to get more 3D effect like so the painting wasn't totally flat.
So, when I was checking out their art, like so there's a light color here. So, I'll make this dark.
Uh, this color here. I'll make it darker than this blue.
So, you get like a 3D effect.
I should have split this in half here.
It's kind of big, but I'll get that later.
Where's my purple?
and get some purple in here.
Night night life. I kind of look like entertainer poster. Yeah, night life.
That's pretty good, Barbara.
I'm gonna, if this one comes out good, I'm gonna send it to you. I'm going to send a picture to that lady that owns that art gallery down the street.
See if she'll hang it up in her gallery for a couple weeks. It's big enough.
This is a 20 by 24. It's not as big as my other one, but this would be a good start to see a DMC.
I really like this style. It's kind It's kind of fun, you know.
I don't like doing all these black lines. It's kind of tedious though, this kind of artwork. If if I was had a computer, this would be like perfect computer art to be doing with straight lines and stuff like that, but I'm not really into computer art right now.
Although I know uh some of that artwork is pretty good that they do I found out if you take your time, you know, putting these lines that I'm pretty straight.
Usually I would rush Especially like when I was doing those flower pick just kind of throw the lines in there.
I think uh if you're if you guys do art out there and you've never tried this gouache.
What's good about it, like later on, say I want to lighten up this brown. So, if you just got a wet brush and a different color, you can you can reactivate this brown and send into it.
It uh it's not like acrylic.
See, you can even do it uh tomorrow if you wanted.
You could even do it a week later.
You just got to have a brush and reactivate it.
I want to throw some some gray in here somewhere.
Maybe right here like a neutral color.
I'm almost ready to put all the lines in.
What color is that?
So, I got the uh the wifi's back on here at the house. Thank God.
It was eating up all my on my phone.
AT&T kept sending messages. We're going to cut your uh minutes down. I was using so much uh data.
I guess I don't realize how that works.
Uh you got all the data centers and all these companies are competing for power, you know.
This looks pretty cool.
Thanks for watching. I got one person watch appreciate it.
I got a new subscriber. I He's going back and checking out all videos from like three years ago and he's running through all of them.
back. I was doing uh I was painting outside on my patio. I had going again. It's It's really nice out there painting outdoors.
I wasn't going to put too much red in here, but now we'll put a light blue there.
like we'll do one side light and one side Dark.
Looking good.
Night life, huh?
It'd be so cool if this style kind of sold Lisa called me a while ago. She was bored.
I go, "Well, what do a live? I could come over. We'll do a quick live."
She said, "Nah, she's taking a break from music today.
Lego puzzles.
Lego puzzles.
I think I know what you're talking about. Those uh I have a little kit like that actually.
It's like uh it has different triangles and has squares, round things, and you piece them together. And all right, here we go. I'm going to start with the lines. Now, there's still a lot more work I'm going to do. Like you see how I did the hair was orange?
Then I put the yellow ochre to make it look darker.
So I'll probably do that in a lot of other places.
But I want to put I want to start putting those black lines in now.
So I can uh see what's how this is going to turn out.
Yeah, I noticed when I put these on uh X there's a a title.
They seem to like that better if the painting got a title to it.
Even a landscape needs to have a tail.
I'm really digging this.
Since I'm off up off the next couple days, I think I'm going to go run to Michaels and get Uh, three more of this size.
And uh try and design another one like and see if I can get some more some better gouache paint.
See, I'm going to make this look like 3D by putting a line there.
Wow, I'm really digging this.
I guess I got pretty good nerves today.
I'm not shaking.
Sometimes when the nerves are rattled, this stuff doing this kind of stuff uh is not good.
Like if you've had too much sugar, uh cool that hand came out. That is so bizarre.
patchwork. How you doing?
Like it's similar to like a Picasso style cub. They call it abstract.
It's really easy to figure out. This one was easier for me to figure out because you got to have like a light area and a dark area. So like light dark light dark light uh dark light. You split you split something up in two and make it dark and light. See?
And this uh like you get this effect.
Cubism, but it doesn't look good till you get all these lines put in.
I I think it starts to look better when It's coming out pretty good. I like it.
Yeah, it also cleans up your edge. Like, see how sloppy this looks? But I'm trying to do it right on the edge so it cleans that edge up.
Barbara already named it for me. Uh, she named it Nightlight.
I was like I knew it looked like some performer.
I get a lot of uh I put my paintings on X and almost every painting I put on there somebody says, "Oh, I want to buy it." I tell them, "All right, how do you pay?" And they go, They always say at the end that, "Oh, I don't want the actual painting. I want an NFT of it." I go, "Oh, if you want an NFT, just screen print it." You go. They want you to join up with their NFT.
uh the program that they're with what wherever they do their NFTTS with so they waste my time instead of asking me off the bat like hey is you have that as an NFT is what they should ask.
I'm really digging this. Uh do this foot.
I got a uh big toe here.
Little Wow.
All right. Happy with it. I guess I'm going to have to these lines and Thanks for watching, guys. I think I'm going to run to my store and get some more of these canvases.
I want to get they sell them three in a pack for like 12 bucks.
Let's see how long this one hour. Wow.
I already had an hour into it.
So I was like painting There's still more I want to do to it, but overall it look Thank you, Grace.
Yeah, it was fun. Me and Lisa, we played on that rooftop app. It was pretty fun.
We felt like the Beatles A long time ago, the Beatles played up on a rooftop.
All right, I think that's it.
Got a few little touchups here.
Wow.
This really surprised me.
Did you see the owl I did for my friend?
I got it. I finally got it done. I changed it to abstract owl.
I think he's going to like that.
That's picture he took up there of that baby owl in his backyard.
Oh. Uh, which fingernails? The one up on the top hand.
She's kind of got it turned though. Uh his fingernails.
They paint them red. Huh?
Yeah, they should be red with like a white stripe in it.
I think it does need red there.
I don't I think it would look cool.
Yeah. No, I thought I do on them red.
Let's put red in there.
I got the right color right here.
It's so cool that I got my wifi back on.
Oh yeah, much better. Wow.
Much better.
I like that deep red. Think I'm gonna do use this red on the lower part of the lip here.
Yeah.
Summer breeze makes me feel fine.
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
Summer breeze makes me feel blowing through the jazz.
This came out eight.
I think I see one. This one. Uh, this part of the hat. I want to make this a little darker.
Just this one strip.
There we go.
There's still a lot I got to do to this.
I think I'm going to split this in half, too. Make this dark and maybe like darken some of the stuff to get more 3D effects.
I like it.
All right, I'm off to Michaels. I'll be back, guys.
I might try and design another one like this when I get back. I'll show you how I do it with a pencil. Then, uh we'll see if I can do another one.
