It marks the first time Vietnam's top leader has headlined the major regional security forum, highlighting Vietnam's growing weight in global diplomacy. The Party General Secretary and State President will sit down with Singaporean leaders to map out the future of their economic ties, locking in cooperation across high-tech sectors vital to Vietnam's long-term growth.

[00:00:54]Ahead of Party General Secretary and State President Thuong's upcoming state visit to Singapore from May 29th to 31st, let us look back at key milestones in bilateral relations built on a high level of political trust.

[00:01:10]August 1973, Vietnam and Singapore established diplomatic [music] relations, marking the official start of bilateral ties.

[00:01:19]1996, [music] the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park or VSIP was launched and became a symbol of bilateral economic cooperation.

[00:01:29]2013, the two countries upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership, opening [music] a new stage of cooperation in defense, trade, and investments.

[00:01:39]2023, Vietnam and Singapore established the green economy, digital economy partnership, expanding cooperation into innovation, green [music] finance, clean energy, and digital transformation.

[00:01:54]2025, relations were upgraded to a comprehensive [music] strategic partnership, making Singapore one of the countries with the highest level diplomatic relationship with Vietnam.

[00:02:06]From the solid diplomatic foundation, bilateral ties have been reflected in strong economic results.

[00:02:12]According to the Foreign Investment Agency or FIA, by early [music] 2026, Singapore was the largest ASEAN investor in Vietnam and ranked second [music] among 153 countries and territories investing in the country with around 4,400 projects and a total registered capital of more than 90 billion US dollars.

[00:02:33]Up until now, Vietnam had 21 VSIPs nationwide, attracted more than 1,000 customers [music] and created more than 300,000 jobs.

[00:02:43]Moreover, Singapore-Vietnam merchandise trade reached around 39.95 billion Singapore dollars in 2025, making Vietnam Singapore's 10th largest trading partner among the markets recorded.
