Severe storms and flooding can cause significant damage to trail infrastructure, including washouts ranging from 10-15 feet deep, destroyed bridge abutments, and water accumulation in recreational areas, requiring coordinated repair efforts between local, state, and county funding sources.

Storms leave soggy messAñadido:
We had significant washouts on the Mountain Bay Trail. A lot of that runoff and those culverts that are underneath that old railroad grade have washed out.
So, we have areas where the trail's almost nonexistent with washouts of 10 to 15 ft deep holes and one bridge that the abutment was washed out as well. We had over 3 ft of water within the playground area. Parking lots were under several feet of water and all that debris from the river ends up into those areas. The good thing here is the main pavilion remained dry. We need to work on funding. We're going to work with the state and the county on funding to get those repairs done. And when you're out venturing on the Mountain Bay Trail, just know that there is no detour and there is a stopping point.
