Trump turns down offer from Putin to help with Iran warAdded:
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faces another round of questions on Capitol Hill today, one day after a contentious hearing over the war with Iran. With peace talks now stalled, President Trump says all Iran has to do is give up its nuclear ambitions to end the conflict.
Jared Hill has more.
It takes people like this to make our country great. While celebrating Artemis II's historic trip around the moon, President Trump's focus brought back down to Earth and the war with Iran. Now they have to cry uncle. That's all they have to do. Just say, "We give up.
We give up." The president says he discussed the conflict in a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who offered to help remove enriched uranium from Iran. I said I'd much rather have you be involved with ending the war with Ukraine. The Kremlin says Putin also warned further US military strikes on Iran could cause damage and consequences for the world. This, as Axios reports, the Pentagon could be planning to brief the president on new military options.
But are we winning the war?
Absolutely. In the hot seat on Capitol Hill for the first time since launching the conflict, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth pushed back on Democrats who characterized the war as a quagmire, calling it an astounding military success. Don't say I support the troops on one hand and then a two-month mission is a quagmire. That's a false equivalation. Who you cheering for here?
The Pentagon says the nine-week-long war has cost $25 billion so far as the conflict also drives up inflation and gas prices for Americans at home. It's extremely stressful. I spent probably like $200 probably in less than 10 days. The uncertainty also played into the Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady for the third time in a row.
The USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group is set to leave the Middle East in the coming days after a record of roughly 10 months deployed.
