The influence stretches 300 million light-years wide creating a massive hole in the universe's mass distribution. We cannot see this pull because the Great Attractor is hidden behind the dust of the Virgo Cluster. If the Milky Way stopped moving instantly, it would take approximately 1 billion years to drift back to a stationary position.
