Job Centre Gives Claimant 15 Minutes to Attend a Meeting

[00:00:05]So, um I was uh I was actually notified about this on X. Uh someone found it on Reddit and it was basically someone who was due to have a meeting with the job center and they were originally given an appointment for the um the 9th of June at 12:00 p.m.

[00:00:28]And uh that was all set up and and and um you know, done and dusted.

[00:00:32]But then they were sent another message on their universal credit um journal to say that the date of the meeting had been changed and it had been changed to the 5th of June at 11:50 a.m.

[00:00:48]Now, I'm going to put a picture of it up here. It's been uh blotted out for the name and stuff like that.

[00:00:53]Um but you will see from the time that this message was posted that the actual uh time the message was posted was at 11:35 on the 5th of June. So, basically 15 minutes.

[00:01:06]Uh they had rescheduled the appointment for 15 minutes time.

[00:01:10]Now, the person responded back to the DWP and said, uh look on your universal credit and said, "Look, I can't physically get to the job center in that amount of time. I just I can't make it there in 15 minutes."

[00:01:24]And so they then replied and said, "Okay, thank you for letting us know.

[00:01:29]We were going to we will have to put this down as failed to attend."

[00:01:33]Now, that's very very uh bad on the half of the job center for a start and the work coach because obviously you know, you give someone 15 minutes to attend a meeting which you previously uh set for a few days time.

[00:01:48]Uh you then reset it for 15 minutes from that point and then expect them to turn up.

[00:01:54]Now, most people don't live near a job center. Job centers are in city centers, usually. Um so, most people, I think, would struggle to get to a job center or to to attend a meeting in 15 minutes.

[00:02:04]Uh really is bizarre. Really is bizarre.

[00:02:07]Um unfortunately, I don't know the outcome of this cuz it was taken off of Reddit, so I don't really know what the outcome was, but I would imagine, well, if it was me, I would have definitely put in a complaint. Because, you know, how can you mark someone as failed to attend when they physically, uh you know, they can't get to the job center within the time that they've been set, actually, 15 minutes.

[00:02:26]Uh now, obviously, it's different if they're given three or four days, and then the very the very last minute they say, "Sorry, I can't make it." That's fair enough. You then put them as failed to attend. But you can't then you can't shift the goalposts and say, "You got to attend in 15 minutes." And then say you failed to attend if you then don't turn up. Very bizarre.

[00:02:44]Um I don't know how often this happens, and if this has happened to you, then please do let me know down in the comment section, because this is just appalling that uh you know, that this person now going to have a failed to attend on their record. I don't know if that means they're going to get a sanction. Hopefully, they didn't get a sanction, but if they did, that's another uh hardship for them, because that means they're going to lose money. And I do hope that they have gone further with this and gone to the management, and actually made a a formal complaint, because uh certainly, it's not going to be the person's fault for not being able to attend that meeting.
