In democratic political systems, party adoption processes often involve preliminary voting where grassroots members vote for preferred candidates, but final candidate selection typically requires additional internal party procedures and considerations beyond simple vote counts, as demonstrated by the UPND's preliminary voting process in Chongwe where Sylvia Masebo lost to Anita Kamanga despite her long political career, with the party emphasizing that preliminary results do not automatically translate into adoption and that unity must be maintained during the process.

Sylvia Masebo Rejected in Chongwe - Deputy Mayor Anita Kamanga Wins BIG追加:
So, the UPND is currently holding preliminary votes being carried out in within the constituencies where people are voting for who they prefer to be their parliamentary candidates and also counselor candidates. And most of that those votes are being carried out through electronic platforms and also within the the constituencies. And Chongwe member of parliament Sylvia Masebo has lost according to the statistics that have been circulating online to the deputy mayor of Chongwe.
So, it seems like within the party uh within the party of the UPND in Chongwe they've opted to vote for the deputy mayor there as opposed to uh Sylvia Masebo there. At least from the preliminary findings. So, obviously Emmanuel Mwamba is quick to put the statistics up and he says uh Chongwe rejects Masebo, picks deputy mayor. And obviously attaches the picture there of uh the two candidates and he puts up this article. So, the golden period for Minister of Lands uh Sylvia Masebo has is finally over. Uh Masebo has been a member of parliament of Chongwe under the Movement for Multiparty National Development I mean Movement for Multiparty Development that's MMD uh PF Patriotic Front and the United Party for National Development UPND. So, she's been member of parliament in all those uh governments.
Her strained career appears to have come to a crashing halt as Anita Kamanga, the deputy mayor of Chongwe and ward counselor has thoroughly dismantled and walloped Masebo in the ongoing UPND adoption process for member of parliament. And UPND secretary general has moved to curb social media results and and has pretty much which have embarrassed most of the incumbents and senior ministers as they crashed to their in their preliminaries. So, pretty much there's a statement that has come from the UPND with regard to these people publicizing the preliminary results coming from the constituencies saying, "Hey, wait until the party secretary through the national management committee announce who has been adopted."
And from the look of things, those names are going to be published tomorrow, which is the day that officially at least the government the national assembly will be dissolved and also the cabinet will be dissolved.
So, George Mtonga, this is a UPND supporter in the US was quick to put up an article says, "Let Anita get this. I think Masebo has served the country enough and we need to give our new generation a chance to serve and build this country. She has been a member of parliament in the MMD Patriotic Front and UPND pretty much she reiterates the same point that was raised by Emmanuel Mwamba. And the time has come to pass this pass this to the next generation of leaders. She tend if need be under the women's allocation, but let the actual representation of the constituency go to Anita. We need to We need to give a path of new leaders. 50% of the current voters in Zambia are between the ages of 18 and 35. That's 4.4 million voters. So, is it is it our youth? Let's Let's give them new leadership. That's according to George Mtonga there.
He makes the same point. So, this is a feedback that came from the UPND when people started circulating the results of how they are performing in the UPND preliminary elections that have been held within the constituencies.
UPND says, "UPND wants aspirant to get treating preliminary results at an automatic adoption. So, the United Party for National Development UPND chairperson for elections and campaigns Likando Mufalali has advised aspiring candidates and aspiring candidates and members of the UPND that their preliminary election results or candidate rankings do not automatically translate into adoption by the party. In a memo dated 13th May 2026, Mr. Mufalali stated that the party's National Management Committee had resolved in 2021 that the rankings at preliminary process were only part of the broader adoption procedure undertaken by the party. He explained that several other factors and internal processes are considered before a final candidate is adopted to represent the party. Therefore, members of members are advised to avoid unnecessary celebrations either on social media or mainstream media. On mainstream media, as such acts may lead to a division, Mr. Mufalali stated. So, the UPND election and campaigns chairperson further urged all aspirant aspirants and party structures and the general membership to remain guided by the party's procedure and uphold unity during the ongoing adoption process. So, that's the feedback that has come from the UPND.
This is where people start saying to say on the ground the results on the ground on the ground have communicated one thing. And then people decide to override that at a party secretariat and adopt candidates.
This is the mistake that they even the PF made in 2021. People had communicated at grassroots to say these are the candidates that we want. And obviously at Central Committee within the Patriotic Front, they opted for other candidates who are more influential within the party. And the results were very evident. We had more independent candidates that are coming from within the Patriotic Front. So, uh I hope they are genuinely considering the reality that is coming from the government.
Otherwise, if they just pick people that are influential within the national management committee, it might it might cost them gravely.
And uh yeah, so this is the today was the last meeting of the cabinet of of Zambia at least until August 13th when the new leadership will be sworn in.
So, this was the picture I was taking at State House earlier on today. That's President Edgar Lungu and his pretty much all the ministers that have served the past 5 years. Obviously, a number of reshuffles within these ministries, but predominantly these these have been our ministers the past 5 years. And uh it was taken at State House and released by the president himself. And he had the president had this to say. So, "This afternoon we held our final meeting of our first term ahead of the general elections on August 13th." Uh he says, "Uh we thank our ministers and we thank our ministers for their service to the people of Zambia. Together, we have done the hard work and stabilized our economy, restored our institutions, and are planting in the seed of a more prosperous nation. We recognize the the progress made, but we know much more remains to be done. Together, let's deliver Zambia's harvest." Hakainde Hichilema, president of the Republic of Zambia, shares during his last cabinet meeting with his ministers there. So, those are the pictures that are coming from State House.
You can see the Republican Vice President there, Mr. Inonge Wina, on the right of the president. The president there, obviously chairing the meeting and everybody else, all the ministers there doing their last cabinet meeting chaired by the president there with that message. Say, "Hey, uh we are done for term one. Let's go into election season."
As a as an as an electioneer, we expect peaceful elections, free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.
President Hakainde Hichilema uh State House. That's uh the date attached to that. So, that's a communication part of the broadcast that were coming from State House.
And then Emmanuel Mwamba was quick to respond. He says, "Farewell to the most incompetent cabinet." This is the Emmanuel Mwamba's post. He says, "Uh President Hakainde Hichilema bid farewell to the most incompetent cabinet in Zambia's history. Uh members of the cabinet uh rarely talked, failed to defend government policies, and their presence only regularly popped up uh on uh corruption details, uh procurement and irregularities and scandals uh with women." That's according to Emmanuel Mwamba's uh analysis there.
Most incompetent cabinet there.
Obviously, someone new, but uh Emmanuel Mwamba commented I mean, comments on the the same post from Emmanuel Mwamba. What is um Miles Sampa Sata went to filing the um 1,000 uh supporters that are required for a presidential candidate earlier on today. And yeah, he had a huge crowd, and uh that was trending as part of that. So, whether an egg falls or on the rock or the rock falls on the egg, the result is the same.
Uh This is the Brian Mundubile uh Uh he's been commenting quite a bit in in court the the past couple of days, insinuating to say uh in as much as Miles Sampa Sata and and Brian Mundubile come together, it seems like he knows something that we do not know.
And he says, "And then someone in Derek in the comment section was like, 'Let us be serious. Uh unless Miles Sampa Sata had joined the Fred M'membe,' he asked. 'Get it from me. Fred M'membe will perform worse than he did in uh 2021. Let us come uh back to this post after the election.
It is time for you to join Makebi Zulu and Brian Mundubile. He was advised there. And then Brian Mundubile responded said, "Watch this space. William done is not playing games. Ask Malanji and Bowman Lusambo."
So, this is what is not known. Is it I mean getting to say there's likelihood that Makebi Zulu or Brian Mundubile is to be arrested or they'll be blocked from standing? No one knows what he means by that. The coded message that he sent out.
It plays out, but then Makebi Zulu has filed in his 1,000 supporters. So, he wrote this "Tonse pamodzi".
We successfully filed in all the pre-nomination obligations in all the 10 provinces. 1,000 supporters countrywide are locked in. Grateful to every Zambian standing with us. Makebi Zulu signs it off there. So, he has done that process.
I think now it should be Brian Mundubile. Should be doing it tomorrow if not further on.
So, those are some of the images from Makebi Zulu's interaction when he went to filing his uh 1,000 supporters. Obviously, in the site it was only 100 that are required, but you could see the crowd there was way more than 1,000 that was required nationwide. You know, it was one more of just sending out the message probably. Politics at the end of the day. You could see more images coming from there. So, Makebi Zulu brought to Lusaka Civic Centre to a standstill as he was led by multitudes from the Tonse pamodzi supporters who turned out in large numbers for the screening at Nakatindi Hall. So, those are the images that are coming from Makebi Zulu's filing in of the 1,000 supporters. What is Miles Sampa put up his payment? It seems like he has paid for his candidates he has a member of parliament there, he has the blocked out uh which constituency he's standing in. He just said it's in Lusaka and says uh paid the 17,000. So, 17,000 going to ECZ just like that. It would have come in handy uh for going to share in material for the goodbye party after party, he says there. He would He would rather have spent that 17,000 parting with the people of Matero, but anyway, it's fine. He's paid his nomination. But then again, he's signing nomination papers for others. I don't know what he's going on. So, you could see uh there he says he's either standing in Chawama, Lima, or he can stand anywhere. Based on our inbox and phone calls, requests go um go to serve.
Uh we're down to these two constituencies, Chawama and Lima of Lusaka Central Lusaka City. And he puts up there. Then again, how you can you stand in Chawama? Wasn't it the constituency where he recently just supported the new member of parliament?
I don't know how that works. He could be a decoy and uh Masaka Masaka Matou quickly responds there. Whichever constituency you choose, we are camping there to make sure you lose. You need to be retired from politics this August.
So, he says it doesn't matter which constituency you pick. We are going to come there to ensure that Emmanuel I mean uh Musampa loses. But Musampa Most people tend to underestimate Musampa because of that demeanor. People tend to be very underestimated and he proves otherwise. He has proven otherwise over the years. So, whoever is underestimating him might find themselves uh wanting there.
And uh some someone developed that poster there uh PF Alliance Alliance Alliance there with Edgar Chagwa Lungu in the background there. Two alliances, one Zambia, one mission there to remove failure, obviously that's the UPND they're referring to, and rescue hope. I mean uh restore hope there. So, I mean Masaka says I I to remove fear and restore hope. And what is the what's with the photo of the late former president? This only This only Chacha Dipua he has to say I mean, what's the point of you being putting in Katiba along with his picture on that?
He asks and that's what's in the Ro Times.
Uh, Daily Nation has that headline.
And uh, the most newspaper has that the headline. All right, ladies and gentlemen, that's the news. Have a beautiful day. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, depending on which time zone you are watching from.
All righty.
