Heavy Rain in Singapore, Great Food and a Store That Never Sleeps
Added:You know in Singapore everyone says, "Oh, Singapore is so hot." And you know, we always complain about how hot it is.
But look at this. Today we are blessed with heavy rains.
Uh you may not be able to see it very clearly on the screen, but it has been raining actually since like 8 plus in the east side over here.
And yeah, I mean, as a Singaporean myself, I do complain that it is very hot. After all, we are staying in the equator. That's my umbrella that you're seeing. So, I do need to go to the traffic light.
Unfortunately, there's no shelter. So, let's walk in the rain.
Okay.
So, I love you guys so much that I'm doing this in the rain. And I love the rain.
And this feels so weird walking in the rain in an umbrella and talking to you guys. But anyway, let's see.
So, yeah, we have some schools over here in the average neighborhood.
Traffic light.
These are the courts over there. I think for pickle ball or something, not too sure.
And lots of shelter walkway if you can see across. Uh however on the side that I am currently no shelter for the traffic light. There we go.
So, the weather in Singapore, if I want to describe it to anyone who hasn't been here, um it's kind of like a crazy chick. You know, one day the one minute it can be sunny and the next raining and within 5 minutes the rain stops. So today is one of those very awesome times that it's raining for hours.
Uh so everywhere indoors is going to be really freezing coldly right now. So right now I am in a sheltered bus stop.
Most of our bus stops are thankfully sheltered and I'm waiting for the bus.
Heat. Heat.
Yes.
Singapore.
My father's memories.
Yes.
Correct. Correct. Correct.
I know I can when I take them to the doctors, right? The only doctor I look so old now.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
The last the last we had was just towards the end of something.
>> Yes.
If you leave him alone in the room, he will press something and come out. But then you have to take it back again and change. So for example, and his buttons in order always.
So we just let him entertain himself after going again.
Yes.
pictures and what he feels as well and and so instead of going around asking all the time he spend some time doing something and then sitting there and then then the patrol Yes.
>> Yes.
So I am actually quite healthy. I can take him in the taxi but I don't do that because I want him to walk. So I will take him in the bus or the train depending to the hospital right we'll take him in the bus or the train and then as he walk so far now you are inspired and then we'll sit down somewhere along the way we got so and then we continue but if it's a long day and very tired then then I call for otherwise he is quite rob you just need He's quite happy with his comfortable without.
But the moment he walks out of the house, he open at least I try not to. My brother is a little tighter. If my brother takes it to the doctors or whatever, my brother will use it. But I try not So, we have made it to Little India station. As you can see, everywhere is kind of uh closed for construction and it's still raining.
So, I didn't say where we are going earlier. We're actually going to Mustafa. So, that's why we're going from Little India. We're going to take the train to Farah Park.
So, we're going to take the northeast line, which is the purple line to be exact, to Farah Park and then walk to Mustafa in the rain.
>> So, we're going underground.
We have some free entertainment behind me.
>> We are underground away from the rain and the heat when it's not raining.
Tap your eat. Oh, hang on. What's happening? There we go.
For a moment, I thought I ran out of uh money, but that's not possible.
And we're going to take the northeast line. All right. I do not know which side.
Let's see.
Okay.
So, it's just one stop, just 2 minutes. Let's find a spot.
So, we're going to go to exit A for Mustafa Center. If you're looking for the mall, it's also here. City Square Mall, exit I.
And there we are.
Where is exit?
>> Exit A and exit I.
>> So, it's still raining. You can see people walking with umbrellas. Uh, the one thing that's a bit insane about Singapore rain is that it can still be very hot and muggy. I can still I can still sweat even though it's raining.
So, I think it's coming to an end slowly. That's why the heat is coming up. Let's Yeah, I am very hungry. So, let's go find some food.
So, if you were to ask me what is the one thing that you Wow, the wind is so strong.
Is my mic on? Yes. All right. Can you ask me what is the one thing that you need in your bag when you come to Singapore? That would be an umbrella because you never know when it's going to rain and also if you're if the sun gets too hot, it's a good shade to have and of course a water bottle. Um, yes. So, right now I am going to find some food. There's a lot of uteris across around Mustafa. So that's where I'm going to go.
So this building right here is Centurion Square.
I've actually never gone inside, but from the looks of it, it looks more of like all the jewelers, the gold smmiths are there and Mustafa is just on the right side of it. So that's cross a lot of construction going on around Singapore.
There's even this makeshift shelter that you will find sometimes even around construction areas.
Okay, where are we? So this is Centurion Square that we saw across the street just now. We have Savan's number one Indian vegetarian restaurant chain. Oh yeah, I've had this a few times. Really yums. Let me get the We've got some perfumes over here in dollars and cents.
And of course, like I said, the gold smmith. You know what? Let's go inside and see. So, another gold smmith.
There's not many shops here. And then there's a print shop here.
Um, it doesn't seem like there's a lot going on. I think there's another jewelry shop here. Oh, in uh this beautiful uh Indian gowns of Punjabi.
Oh, that's nice. This is really beautiful. Actually, they all are. But if you are going for a wedding or something.
Okay, that's about it. Like this is a very uh interesting mall that doesn't have much going on. All right. Can you I wish you could smell the Indian food from here cuz I can smell it. It's so yum. And I'm super hungry.
Uh it is now what's the time? 1 07.
I'm walking. So, all right. So, this is Mustafa just behind here. I am going to find food. Okay, let's go here since I don't see many people.
Yeah, it's still raining, which is such a beautiful blessing for today.
So, let's see. Okay, we've got a mosque over there.
>> Ah, right. Today is Friday. I kind of forgot about that. So, things will be crowded in a bit. So, that's So, everyone's going for prayers right now. So, that means I should go and have lunch and not interviews will be really crowded.
Uh, I'm just going to walk in the rain.
I'm too too annoyed to carry my umbrella out. All right.
We made it. Okay.
So, let's see.
Look at all the sweets.
Okay.
So, let's see.
Oh, they've got none.
Let's see.
I am craving for some puri actually. Do they have puri?
>> Everything looks okay. Okay, here we go.
We got the lunch. Give me the tali.
Uh 42. [clears throat] >> Okay, I think I'm going to go for this >> North Indian. [clears throat] You know what? Let's go for this a special time. Since we're here, let's try what it is all about.
Since very empty hasn't come yet.
So, the masala tea is here.
It's very hot. I think it's almost hot.
Yeah, I think you're supposed to actually do some juggling equipment.
Very hot.
I'm very bad at this. Happens to be cool.
So, this is Actually, [snorts] they're supposed to send this after the meal, but anyway.
No, no, baby.
and get all that cardamon out.
And my food is here.
Thank you.
Okay, that's a lot of food, guys.
A lot. I'm going to just stop this.
So, we've have the parota capam.
There's the plate.
And then there's the rice.
Okay. How am I supposed to finish this?
Right.
I'm going to ask the lady what is what.
>> Hi sis. C can you explain to me what's going what? So there's the rice and what are dishes?
>> Sure.
>> You should take out the salt and the meat inside this.
>> So this is the dessert now.
>> Uh yeah, this is query. This is a tomato soup. This is 65 and then all veggie and then garlic.
>> And what's this?
>> Uh this is pi. You have to mix this two and eat with rice.
>> And then the yogurt uh >> the yogurt is like for digest. So you have to eat last.
>> Okay. So this this one and this one last.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Thank you so much.
So there we have it.
We've got kiseri, which is a dessert. That's going to be last. And then tomato soup. I guess I'll have that first. Um yogurt for digestion. I guess that'll be maybe I should do that first or last. I I'll think about it.
And this has to mix with this.
Okay.
Okay. So, I'm going to try the tomato soup first.
Tastes like a normal tomato. So, it's quite All right.
I don't know what this is.
Oh, okay. It's a bit spicy. I guess that's why you mix this with this. So basically the way to go about this is put everything out and then you take your this is a pickle and the rice is supposed to go on the tree.
Okay.
>> So, they use basmati rice. So, therefore, it is actually very light and fluffy. I'm pretty sure I can finish everything, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Okay, so let's try the go 16.
crunchy.
>> The best way to eat Indian food is definitely with your hands. So, we got some vegetables and curry.
Let's go for this. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> There we have it. Mustafa Santa. And it's still raining, guys. Although it's not that heavy, but yeah. Okay, it's still quite heavyish.
Let's try to cross without getting banged.
>> How many So, we have a money changer here.
>> Okay.
Okay.
So far center has lots and lots of things. So you can get watches, you can get everything under this mall. It's actually 24 hours.
All right. So you can even get your watch battery changed over here. Let's see. So if you are a watch fan, Mustafa is a place to be.
So many brands.
Can you change the strap also? Do you no strap?
Some strap they're selling there.
>> Okay. The other side.
All right.
$5. Yeah.
Yeah.
>> So, just to change the battery, it was $5.
>> Usually, I would check this brand more for the right now. Yeah.
is helping me to set the time as well.
Very nice.
So, he gave me a slip that I need to go to the cashier to pay $5 as you can see and then go back to him and show that it has been.
But they're doing some renovation here.
Okay, let's go find another cashier.
I >> Where is All right. So, my mission today is to get a few things. Uh a phone cuz mine well finally gave, you know, ended its life. I actually got it from Mustafa for $5 last year. So, it lasted me a whole year, which was amazing.
Am I going to get another $5 one? I don't think so. Maybe not. Let's see.
>> And then I need to get um some toiletries and you know. Okay, so let's go and get the earphones first. So, if you need electronics, here's the place. You can't even There's even one's cheaper. $4.
Oh, $3.
Is there $2?
I don't see any.
Anyway, I'm not a particular fan of in earphones, so let's find a normal one. Um, and the types C. How much is this one?
>> Four bucks.
Um, okay.
Let's go for something a bit more substantial, shall we? 750. Not bad.
Yeah.
>> Anyway, so let's see. And you if you need headphones here. Yeah. So you can find ones at like 1990 21 24.
And of course, yeah, I think this is like the most expensive one I've seen so far. Almost 40 bucks.
>> Oh, these are cute.
>> Yeah, we are back.
>> 38.
>> It's been a long time since I saw these.
Do people still use them? DVD, CDRs?
Brings me back to the good old days of uh burning cities.
Anyway, you can get all these things here.
Electronics.
Okay.
Staff, pants, lights, everything. And then one. I think they even have cameras.
jewelry, handbags.
>> Okay, let's go up.
Let's go to the other side.
[music] >> [music] >> So, I got my earphones and they even do this tie for every purchase.
>> Not sure why.
So you don't put in unpaid stuff inside I guess.
All right, let's see where are we?
So sveners, snacks.
So this is the groceries uh section.
Let's see.
>> I'm actually looking for where's the clothes department?
I think it should be upstairs.
Anyway, as you can see, it's really big.
And this is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.
All right. Sorry. Excuse me. Thank you.
All right.
I see ladies question. Okay. Let's go.
These are amazing.
1050 for a whole chunk of 250 g of uh chocolate, guys.
Uh let's see if they have Tony's.
No, we don't want these. [laughter] Okay, so Chocolate Fanatics, here we are.
And of course, don't forget to bring this one home if you're traveling to Singapore.
I mean, if you're [music] going back home, I don't know if these this brand in particular is good, but durian chocolates probably like the entry level to durian.
Okay, here we've got the bedding.
Lots and lots of things.
Like I said, you can find everything under this roof. I think they have like four or five uh buildings, towers, whatever they called.
Um, okay. Here we go. Let's go some shopping.
You need umbrellas cuz it's a rainy day.
Okay, let's see what they have.
Anything fun?
All right, I'm looking for some basics. Some basically some, you know, something nice. Nice pants or skirt or dress.
Okay, I think this is not [laughter] the here. So, from here onwards, I see some jeans. Oh, lots of jeans over here.
So, we've got Lee Cooper, uh, Levis.
Let's see the [music] price range. So, Levis is going for $54.90.
That's quite [music] a steal. As to whether these are original, I honestly do not know. Um, but then again, I mean, yeah, if >> Yeah, they might [music] not be original, but I'm not too sure.
We've got a romper here and a overall H.
Let's see.
This is cute.
Nice Indian pants.
[music] Okay, so the clothing department here kind of has a little bit of a thrift store vibe, which if you're into that thing is quite nice. You can find some good finds.
So, now this is a cute top.
How much is it?
8 Where Where are you?
$8.90.
8.90, guys.
This is cute for a basic.
Although, let's see. The material is quite stretchy.
The material's a stretchy one.
Moderately seethrough, but it's not that bad.
Can use it as an under uh under something or, you know, on its own. Just wear a nude bra or something. Anyway, or there's other colors if you like. I think there's a black one somewhere.
Like that mannequin over there. This one.
He got this little cute stuff.
This is nice.
Okay, sorry. I need to zoom out.
Look at that lace design right there. $8.90.
That's quite a steal.
They have it in black, too.
We need plates. Oh, look at these.
Quite nice.
Very uh vintage designs.
And water bottles, more kitchen wear.
Let's see.
Lots of things.
When I say Mustafa has everything, I mean everything. Cuz look behind even bicycles.
And then we've got paint. We've got uh safe.
And then beside me, stationary.
And we've got books. I think some of them are religious books.
Very, very interesting place to be if you haven't been here already. agree.
>> Um although the fashion department was really sad in my opinion. I wish they had nicer clothes. Um trendier ones, but sadly they don't. Uh these charts brings me back to school days.
And then we've got most stationary potty stuff.
Everything under one roof.
Like amazing.
And some of the stuff are not really that expensive either.
You hate souvenirs, horses, anybody? Me and my your carriage weeds and elephants and get this.
You don't have to go to London to get the tower. What is this called?
Big Ben. Is it not? I'm not entirely sure. You don't have to go to Dubai to see the Burj Khalifa and [snorts] the Museum of the Future.
And you don't have to go to India to see the Taj Mahal.
Everything is here.
Got pyramids.
>> Who wants to see Pharaoh?
[clears throat] and this little thing.
>> So, we're back here to the food, chocolates, lots of groceries.
Huh?
>> You can eat rice.
We have all the different types of rice here.
>> The beans, leg, the jews.
If you want to snack like past midnight or you like to stay up late and Mustafa is definitely the place to come because it's open 24/7 and there are like a thousand or million kinds of snacks around here and drinks and yeah, you can get everything pretty much.
Have a chocolate cereal drink. Bandong, lots of drinks.
Yogurt as well.
We healthy.
And uh this is awesome.
And then let's see what else do we have. It's really cool.
Milk. Yeah, your usual grocery store.
Yeah, but only thing is it's 24/7.
Let's see what's up ahead. That looks like a fancy card that I've not seen.
You also find a lot of things that you probably wouldn't see in every supermarket over here.
This looks new.
What is this? [snorts] Oh, this is this is really good.
like health stuff.
>> I remember.
>> So you go.
>> So this is the kids department.
Why do the kids clothes look better than the adult ones?
These are so cute. Why don't they not have it in an adult section?
Oh well.
And your usual baby stuff.
>> And we have the men's section here.
>> Toddlers.
Interesting.
>> I feel that the men section is much bigger than the female one.
Am I missing something?
Yeah, the men section is definitely bigger than the females.
Yeah. And here we have the coast.
>> Okay. All right. So, I'm officially out of Mustafa.
It was a very big mall. Kind of got lost coming out. So, okay.
Be careful when you cross the roads here because sometimes people don't look and everyone's filming. So both of our faults anyway. So here's Mustafa.
