Alabama Weather Network Friday 6/19/26 Early Morning Alabama Forecast Update from Drew McCombs
Added:[music] It's time for your statewide Alabama weathercast.
[music] Hi, I'm meteorologist Rome with the Alabama Weather Network and this is your early morning forecast update for this Friday, June the 19th. And we're starting off taking a look back at yesterday, which was a very active day.
Had lots of rainfall across the southern and southwestern part of the state.
We're looking at our our new uh neighborhood weather network powered by Tempest here and we can see we had some really heavy totals uh in Mobile and Baldwin counties. We take a look at the few of those. We're just kind of quering those here. Nearly 8 ines in Twin Lake Twin Lakes Court there near Sarland. Uh we'll have another one here. 9.5 ines almost 10 inches in C Ketchy Road there in the western part of Mobile County uh north of 65 Crosby Road in northern part of B Baldwin County 8 and a half in uh so again we just had some really big totals Coyote Drive there um almost 8 in as you move further to the south uh it's pretty crazy you how you get the cut off here and you had just just a little bit north of Foley there around Southerners Lane almost 2 in and down at the beach you had very very little less than a half inch. So, uh big change as you move around, uh the mo, you know, the kind of the coastal area of the state. Now, as we take a look at, uh our southern part of the state here, we'll kind of play that over. Um you can see again, we've got some pretty big totals. We don't have quite as many uh as many u observations here, but in Scambia County, 6.39 inches there. East of Atmore near Wil Wilkerson Street, 5.81 in Camper. Uh in Chadam, we've got 3.64 South Doer Street. Uh we've got Hawkins Road there in northern part of Covington County, 5.21, actually maybe Crrenshaw County. Uh and again, as you move to the further to the southeast, it wasn't quite as much. 2.07 there near Dothan. Looks like we got a little bit over 3 in near Petty Street in Dothan.
Near Ozark, you got about 2.34 in.
again, widespread heavy rainfall totals uh and flooding rains across uh a lot of South Alabama for yesterday. Uh and uh with that said, we continue to have a flood watch for a good portion of the state that's in effect through 700 p.m.
tonight. Now, we'll mention that the Birmingham Weather Service office uh cancelled quite a few counties in central Alabama recently. So now we see the flood watch basically starts from Sumpter, Greenhill, Bib, Chilton, Cusa, Talpusa, and Chambers County and all the points to the south uh across Alabama.
So we've trimmed some of the flood watch uh down a little bit because there wasn't as much rain that fell uh in central Alabama, north central Alabama yesterday. So but still do have a flood watch for these counties uh in the southern part of the state because we're expecting more rainfall for today. Now, as we take a look at our uh power outages, Mobile County, again, this number has been high the whole day, but u or at least a lot of the the evening showing 10,000 out still in Mobile County. So, looks like we still have a fairly significant number of power outages there. A lot of the other ones have cleared up over the course of the evening. Hundreds still out in Montgomery, 500 still out, 500 customers still out in Jefferson, and about 100 in Walker, but a lot of other places uh have uh recovered quite a bit here in the last number of hours. Looking at our satellite radar, thankfully things have calmed down. It took a while um but it finally has happened. There's just a few scattered showers left over in southern parts of Alabama and occasionally in central parts, but there's no heavy rain or thunderstorm activity currently over the state. Still got a little heavier cell that caused some major flash flooding northwest and west of Hattisburg there. Uh and we had a our most recent flash flood warning in northeastern Washington County. still actually in in effect for maybe about right now when it's set to expire. Uh but again, you can see that the storm that was in that area has dissipated a good while back now. Uh so again, we're we're looking like we're in pretty good shape. Looking at our satellite radar at a wider view here, you got the low pressure, that remnant low from Tropical Storm Arthur has pushed east of the area starting to move into South Carolina at this point. And then we have a frontal boundary kind of sagging down to the south uh that will help to kick off the showers and thunderstorms uh across the state today. So again, we're not done yet, but we're hoping we're done with most of the flooding issues. Now, as we take a look at our region sky cam network in Florence, it's calm. 74 degrees is your temperature. Due points in the low 70s. Still got plenty of moisture even north Alabama. Winds are fairly light there. As we look across the campus of of the University of North Alabama, Decatur, 73 degrees is your temperature. I got some cloud covers around or cloud cover around. Winds are fairly light gusting up to about 11 miles per hour. Continuing our tour.
Love the lights there on Nalula Falls.
Got a decent amount of water running over the falls. Even though that again didn't rain a lot in Gadston today, but there was some here uh in there in the last couple of days. 72 degrees is the current temperature as the water's flowing over the falls. At region center downtown Birmingham, it's uh 72 over 71.
So Dupoint temperature really close and we've got some low clouds at least but fog potentially there as well in downtown Birmingham. In Montgomery we're at 74 degrees and you can see again plenty of moisture still in the area in Montgomery. Move down to Mobile. This is this camera was pretty active earlier this evening. Had lots of lightning, had gusty winds, had winds gusting up to over 60 70 miles per hour. Uh had a tornado warning nearby. I don't know if we had an actual tornado uh at that point. Uh but there was some really gusty winds and then we had tons of lightning around. So lots of rain. It was kind of a messy day in Mobile. But thankfully things are calming down currently. And at Gulf Shores hardly had any rain today, but it was a really windy day and and the surf was way up and uh not a good day to be out in the water. See the winds are still sustained around 20 m per hour. Due points are in the upper 70s there in Gulf Shores.
Temperatures now are in the 70s across the board except for Gulf Shores at 82 at the airport. So still warm and juicy in southwestern part of southwestern part of the state at 77 in Monroville, 73 in Clanton, uh 72 in Coleman. Wind gusts up 15 20 m per hour in some spots.
Uh a little bit higher depending on where you are, but generally they've come down again compared to what we saw earlier today. Occasionally again gusty up to 20 or 25 miles per hour as you move closer to the water down in the south. Due points are still elevated. We still got upper 70s 80°ree due points in coastal section mo mobile and Mobile and Baldwin counties and 70s across the board all the way up to the northern border. So we've continued to have a very moist air mass in place and you can see that looking at the relative humidity we're almost 100% across the state and like I mentioned seeing a few places where we're seeing low clouds and fog. Might see a little bit more of that in some spots this uh this coming as we get later into the morning here. U kind of basically we're overnight here recording this a little bit after 3:00 in the morning. uh as we look at our forecast lows, we got some 60s we'll expect to get down uh as we get into the northern part of the state. Uh and then 70s as you move further towards the south. And again, we'll see. I'm a little skeptical. Not so sure. I'm believing we're going to get quite as cool uh in North Alabama tonight. I might say I'm going to bump that up a little bit into the uh upper 60s or low 70s because the due points are still pretty high in North Alabama. Highs uh today expect to be possibly into the 80s. Again, if we get some more rain and thunderstorms in spots, that may keep the temperatures down in the 70s in a few spots, but do expect a little bit um less widespread rain, especially in South Alabama, uh compared to what we saw today. So, that might allow us to get a little bit better chance of getting into the 80s. The severe weather outlook for today, um again, it's a level one marginal risk. You can see it extends from uh basically u Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, uh Alex City, places to the south of there uh and up in North Alabama. We're not going to see any issues. It doesn't look like today. And it's really of a wind risk. Got 5% wind risk for that same area. Don't really expect issues with tornadoes uh as much as we were kind of worried about it yesterday. Um and so again, gusty winds is going to be your main thing with the storm. So let's take a look at the the futurecast here. And again, we'll uh we've got just a few lingering showers there around um right now. We do as we get into uh midm morning here. We do kind of expect to see uh those showers and thunderstorms fire back up in South Alabama.
Then by the afternoon, still kind of mainly in South Alabama, maybe a few trying to move into western Alabama. At that point, Friday, tomorrow evening, or today, I'm I'm still getting my days mixed up. This evening, uh again, we could have some rain down in South Alabama. some storms starting to move into the northwestern part of the state uh but kind of diminishing. And then as we get into Saturday morning, there still could be some additional rain and thunderstorms around. You see a big complex back in Mississippi. It's not going to help with some of the flooding over there, but we we don't see quite as much of that widespread rain. It doesn't look like uh as we move into Saturday, but still heavier uh rain and thunderstorms certainly possible.
Temperatures in the 80s there and then kind of sweeping through parts of South Alabama late Sunday or Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Few storms still possible. Again, we expect to see kind of a slow decrease in the rain and thunderstorms, especially as we get into Sunday. A little bit more scattered in nature, a little bit more summerlike pattern looking as we get into Sunday.
Again, Saturday still could have some decent uh storms around in spots, but again, things are looking to kind of quiet down as we get into Sunday. Monday morning looking pretty calm as well.
Monday afternoon, evening, we could get another little line of of showers and storms through North Alabama. Uh and then again again doesn't look to be nearly the kind of widespread issues we've seen uh today or yesterday. As we look at our heavy rainf outlook for today for Friday, we still got a level three moderate risk. Now we had a high risk for a good portion of southwestern Alabama yesterday. That's certainly verified with all the the heavy rain totals and some of the flooding that we've seen. Um moderate risk for today for most of South Alabama. So again, that's not going to there was lots of rain in those areas. If we get a little bit more, it's going to exacerbate things. And so again, we still have the issues possibly with flash flooding today we'll have to watch for. And then you extend as you go further to the north, we've got some level two risk there. And then it looks like that level one risk, it does still include Birmingham, Hamilton, places like that, but uh less of a of an issue probably as you move further to the north. As we look at Saturday, again, still a level two slight risk in South Alabama, but you can see that we're kind of ramping down the flood risk. And looking at a rainfall outlook as we move through Sunday, still additional few inches possible in South Alabama. Definitely not expecting as much as what uh we got here today or yesterday. Uh so it's good to see that. And as we look at Monday and Tuesday of next week, you can see that the rain chances shift more to the north. So looks like South Alabama starts to get a little bit more of a break during that time period, which uh they certainly could use. 7-day forecast for the northern half of the state. So again for tomorrow, still could see some scattered showers or could have see a little bit more scattered showers and thunderstorms around, but still not widespread uh in northern Alabama.
Similar thing for Saturday, highs in the in the 80s, lows in the upper 60s, low 70s. Sunday, um again, still have a few scattered showers and thunderstorms around. And then as we get into next week, again, we start to try to get a little bit more normal sort of rain chances in a pattern uh for uh you know, June. Uh highs in the mid to upper 80s and some scattered showers and thunderstorms around southern half of the state. Again, uh high rain chances again tomorrow, possibly some more flooding tomorrow. Some gusty winds with storms possible for tomorrow. Saturday, there's still some of that as well, but I think we still see a little bit less coverage. Highs generally in the mid to upper 80s uh outside of areas that get rain during the middle of the the kind of the afternoon. Sunday, we kind of see the rain chances take down. And then again, we get into next week, rain chances starting to look a little bit more normal, a little bit more scattered shower and thunderstorm during the afternoon and evening like you typically expect and highs back into the low 90s.
Well, that is your Alabama forecast update. We appreciate you watching us here on the Alabama Weather Network.
