Mark’s work is a profound exercise in temporal humility, stripping away modern vanity to reveal the grueling, honest reality of mountain life. It serves as a grounding reminder that true sustainability is measured in decades of patience, not instant results.

Planting new Trees next to me Clay HouseAdded:
The most interesting part of my project for many people it's building process.
Cob and straw it's really fun and artistic, but sometimes I really need to do a garden. This time I wanted to plant new orchard of apples and pears.
Unfortunately, to plant something in Carpathian Mountains, I need to cut first. When I was younger, I dreamed to move into the desert and plant garden there.
For example, Middle East or Africa, but now it seems that we will have a real desert here in south of Ukraine. Of course, it's going to take years, but we will have it.
Even here on the west of the country, we didn't have rain for 2 months.
The first day of my cleaning moved pretty fast and it was already time to go and cook dinner.
On the second day, I started earlier. In general, I didn't have much time for that project. In my thoughts, I needed just 2 days.
Second day was almost done and I still so far from my goal. Cutting is done, but I needed to clean the area first.
When I was super tired on my third day, I just went to take a break for the moment. And this dream about orchard remind me something beautiful.
Same dream had Taras Shevchenko, one of the biggest artists of Ukraine. You can check and probably his monument also staying in your country as well.
The problem that here we know him only as author.
But first of all, he was a painter. And for now in world there is around 800 of his works.
Unfortunately, most of them is stolen by our neighbor.
He was dreaming and writing about garden, family, and little cob hut under straw roof. But because of his novels he was imprisoned for decades and lost his health. He died in '47 and his dream didn't come true.
And now me and people like him continue his path.
It was the end of the third day. I thought up to that time I will already finish, but in reality I even didn't start to plant. Usually every my project takes two times more than I measure. I don't really like this, but this is reality.
And somehow I need to deal with it. For example, plan less projects.
Finally, it was time to prepare for planting new trees.
For example, make this metal description with names of varieties. It's important because then you already know which sorts you already have. In general, there is only two sorts of the fruits can be in your orchards. Tasty and not tasty.
My main strategy to go from simple to complicated, not opposite. It means I will not plant a tree in a big hole which full of compost. If it's already can grow in much simpler way.
Actually, the water is also not really important, but for now the soil is really super dry.
And there is always the option to mulch them.
Orchard with fruits and nuts it's always investment into the future. You need to plant the material and then wait a lot and then only after that you have the result.
And not always because trees can get sick, the weather can change.
Important part is to cut top of the trees the same as we cut end of the roots.
During that time in main orchard, the peaches already started to flower. The same with bird cherry tree.
In the future, all these fruits will eat kids from the school that visits me with class for the excursions. Of course, if I have enough free time for that. But I should because kids eat also our future.
But if we speak about my own, for now I have only cats.
Before to have my own kids, I really create a paradise here. And in my imagination, one of the most important parts of paradise is garden.
But anyway, my cob house also should be finished. So, please subscribe to follow with me. Not to see the end of that journey, but to see the process and the way.
And yeah, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
After some time, I decided to turn some branches into the compost. It's really strong chopper and actually made in Ukraine and I'm really proud of it. I know that in many countries like for example in USA, you can get wood chips for free.
But here people don't really do it. So it's quite expensive resource.
And in 3 years laying just outside, it will turn to the compost.
And I really love the quality.
The rest of the branches I decided to use in another way. I'm pretty sure you will be surprised in which one exactly.
I just recognized that it's too expensive resource to turn everything to the compost.
>> [sighs] >> The rest of the job here is to make a fence and cut the grass two times per season. I'm sure in 3 years from those 25 trees, I will have first fruits. Hope in those dark times, I will be able to see that.
It was Mark and my life in a cob house.
