U.S. Attorney Michael Dunavant outlines who cannot legally possess firearms

[00:00:00]Prohibited people under federal law include convicted felons, persons who are convicted of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, any person who is subject to a an order of protection from a court that restrains them from stalking, harassing, or making contact with someone in a domestic relationship.

[00:00:23]Fugitives from justice or persons under a federal indictment are prohibited people. Unlawful users or people who are addicted to or habitual users of controlled substances cannot own or possess a firearm.

[00:00:37]Individuals who are adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to mental institutions are prohibited.

[00:00:43]Illegal aliens and non-immigrant visa holders are also prohibited.

[00:00:49]Any person dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces, uh any person who has renounced their US citizenship, all of those are prohibited people. And a final category that we want to warn you about is juveniles.

[00:01:04]Any adult who provides a handgun or a handgun ammunition to a juvenile violates federal law.

[00:01:11]And we are actively investigating and looking for those cases to prosecute.

[00:01:16]If you provide a firearm to a juvenile, you will be held responsible under federal law.
