Poison Hemlock walk

[00:00:00]Hey guys, I stopped at my creek really quick and I'm just sitting and watching birds and um one of my favorite birds is a killdeer.

[00:00:09]They're the birds that lay their um eggs in rocks on the ground.

[00:00:13]Um which I've actually like had the opportunity to see their nests before on the ground.

[00:00:19]It's really cool. They like pretend to have a broken wing to um like get predators away from the nest to trick them.

[00:00:29]They're like the most interesting bird ever, but a few years ago I had the realization that killdeer, which is such a goofy name for bird by the way.

[00:00:39]Um they're creek walkers.

[00:00:42]I constantly see them walking in the creeks and it's really interesting and I just saw one walking in the creek and he flew away, but maybe he'll come back and I'll get a video of him.

[00:01:10]I um told myself that I wasn't going to film anything tonight like at all.

[00:01:14]I'm just going to go for a walk and listen to amazing music. Um but then I pulled my headphones out when I got to the creek and I heard this.

[00:01:24]It's hard not to film when it sounds like this.

[00:01:35]I also can't help myself because the dame's rocket is in full bloom mixed in with the um poison hemlock and they're just such a bomb combo.

[00:01:54]The white is the poison hemlock.

[00:01:58]and the purple is the dame's rocket.

[00:02:09]I'm also loving the attitude that the catbirds have this time of year. You hear them?

[00:02:18]I love catbirds.

[00:02:21]There he is.

[00:02:23]Up in the sycamore tree.

[00:02:29]Mr. Catbird.

[00:02:32]And those are cherry blossoms, by the way.

[00:02:37]On a cherry tree.

[00:02:44]My sneakers are going to get soaking wet.

[00:02:49]And that's okay.

[00:02:50]That's all right.

[00:02:56]So, like I said, the poison hemlock the white is in full bloom.

[00:03:01]Um I don't have any issues with poison hemlock. It's never bothered me.

[00:03:06]So, it's easy for me to love because it just looks beautiful.

[00:03:10]Um I'm going to point it out again.

[00:03:18]So, as you can see, the poison hemlock kind of resembles Queen Anne's lace.

[00:03:23]However, like I mentioned before, it does not have that center it's a little dark center.

[00:03:30]And as I've mentioned before, it very much resembles celery on the stalks.

[00:03:39]Which Queen Anne's lace does not.

[00:03:46]As you guys have noticed, I have major beef with most invasive species.

[00:03:50]However, the dame's rocket, which I'm going to point out, um has not created like a monoculture like a lot of um invasive species do. So, it doesn't bother me.

[00:04:02]Um and it's really easy to pull out if needed.

[00:04:09]So, the purple is the Dame's rocket.

[00:04:13]This is the non-native version to phlox.

[00:04:18]Although the Dame's rocket has four petals instead of five like our native woodland phlox.

[00:04:26]And it comes in a bunch of different colors of purple and white.

[00:04:55]Look at what they look with the rain drops.

[00:05:03]Smells so good if you can believe it.

[00:05:07]Everything smells amazing down here.

[00:05:22]Oh, here's the leaves by the way again of the poison hemlock.

[00:05:29]Pretty much like celery leaves.

[00:06:18]>> I wish that you guys could see this at golden hour.

[00:08:26]>> I'm still convinced that this isn't eastern cottonwood.

[00:08:34]Maybe it's not.

[00:08:36]It's some kind of elm.

[00:08:45]But, check out the bark on this thing.

[00:08:49]It's so gnarly.

[00:09:16]It's covered in poison ivy.

[00:09:30]So, these are my wild geraniums.

[00:09:33]I've shown them before, but they look pretty good after the rain.

[00:09:40]And uh I don't think they're going to be out much longer, so I wanted to point them out one more time.

[00:09:47]These are a native wildflower.

[00:09:50]They grow here naturally.

[00:09:52]And they're just really pretty and dainty.

[00:09:59]Oh my gosh, look at this dainty little sycamore leaf.

[00:10:05]It's so fuzzy.

[00:10:08]It looks like felt.

[00:10:11]And so soft.

[00:10:28]All right, guys. I was just about to cross the creek and there's a little snapping turtle hunting. Well, he's not little. He's kind of big.

[00:10:40]He's not a bad size.

[00:10:45]He sure looks like a dinosaur.

[00:10:54]Yeah, he was definitely hunting something.

[00:11:22]This I love snapping turtles.

[00:11:25]I think they're my favorite kind of turtle. I mean, just look at his tail.

[00:11:30]How wicked is that?

[00:11:39]I suppose that I have showed off enough of my flowers for now.
