[00:00:00]Anushka, in the last 10 days alone the government has increased the petrol prices time and again, taking it up by over 7 rupees, close to about 7 rupees 50 paise is the increase that we are seeing in just 10 days alone from the 15th of May.

[00:00:17]Well, that's right. Within 2 weeks this is the fourth time that the prices of petrol and diesel has been increased. We are showing you the visuals from a similar petrol pump from Noida sector 51. We can clearly see that the price has been raised for petrol. It has become costlier by rupees 2.61 per liter and for diesel by rupees 2.71 per liter, making it the fourth hike in less than 2 weeks. Now, the latest increase is expected to add further pressure on the people and the budget. Also, the transportation cost because most of the people who are working from Noida have to travel till Gurugram and people are currently anxious about the kind of petrol price increase that can be seen here. [00:01:14]So, we are seeing people who are quite anxious about the kind of price rise that can be seen here at the petrol pumps. This is now you know, we have seen the kind of mixed reactions people have been given on the price hike that can be currently seen here. We are showing you the display board where the prices have been mentioned here of the petrol and the diesel and people who are currently early in the morning getting their tanks filled so that, you know, they can in fact go to their offices. [00:01:56]So, we are seeing the kind of reactions people have given. They have said that this is going to take a pinch in the pocket, but they have no other option than to get their petrol tanks filled so that they can move to and fro for their offices and other work. What do you >> More than a pinch, well, it has been, you know, in a phase-out manner. This is the fourth such increase, Anushka, that we are seeing. It's more of a burning a hole in one's pocket as fuel prices have been hiked again. We're talking about the fourth time that the price has gone up in the last 10 days. On the 15th of May, before that, petrol that you heard in the national capital cost about 94 rupees and 70 paise has now gone up and crossed that 100-rupee mark for the very first time. Over 102 rupees is what you need to give out for 1 liter of petrol.

[00:02:40]Petrol and diesel prices that have been increased by 2 rupees 61 paise and 2 2 rupees 71 paise on an average. Since the last 10 days, the fuel prices have been increased so close to about 7 and 1/2 rupees in a matter of 10 days. The national capital petrol prices will now cost 102 rupees and 12 paise. The petrol price in Kolkata being the highest at 113 rupees and 51 paise per liter. In Mumbai coming, you know, this is going to be a close second at 111 rupees and 21 paise per liter. While diesel rates have increased, as we mentioned, little under 3 rupees, 2 rupees 71 paise to be precise. So, now it's going to cost about 95 rupees and 20 paise per liter from 92 rupees and 49 paise that it costed here in Delhi up until 2 days back. The repeated hikes come against the backdrop of elevated global crude oil prices and a weakening rupee against the dollar. So, we have We have Vishwas joining us from Jaipur.

Danish, we're seeing the the ripple effect and, you know, we're seeing that the opposition is up in arms. In fact, from Maharashtra, it is uh, the opposition leader, Aditya Thackeray, they're condemning the uh, you know, ruling government, saying they really don't know how to run the government. They know how to run social media, but we're seeing this happen across the globe, and this is because of the crisis as far as Iran US crisis is concerned. But, on that front, if things were to ease up and get better, are these rates going to go back to what they were because what we saw even after the Ukraine war that had erupted, uh, the pricing hadn't changed because of India buying oil from Russia.

[00:04:28]Well, that's correct. It will be very difficult to say whether the government will be taking back the high price that we have seen, and it has happened for the fourth time in the past 15 days when we are seeing the retail prices have gone up. But, if we look at the overall scheme of things, like the crisis began almost 2 months back. It's been more than 2 months since the crisis has begun in the in the Middle East, and because of that, we saw that it was creating a lot of pressure on the crude oil prices. Uh, there was a bit of relief over the weekend when the crude oil prices it had come down a little bit notch a bit somewhere around $100 a barrel, and that happened after we saw some positive commentary coming out from Donald Trump and his counterpart in the Middle East. Uh, but then, uh, today we are seeing that the retail prices have again been hiked. So, this clearly shows that the government's intent is not to burden the normal consumers by uh, giving up by you know, by coming out and doing a big price hike. And they So, that's why they're doing a staggered price hike a bit. And like you mentioned that we saw that the government had cut down the prices way back when the Ukraine-Russia war had started. But, and as far as these adjustments are concerned, the only reason why that was reduced the ultimate prices were reduced with the fact that the government made certain adjustments when when it comes to VAT and other kinds of taxes. So, probably in the future if the crude oil prices come down a bit, the government might or tweak the VAT and other tax components and that's is the only way that these prices can come back because we have seen that over the past few years, especially post COVID, when the crude oil prices came down to really low, we were still continuing to pay over 90 over 80 85 rupees per liter to you know, to refuel our vehicles. But back then, they did not cut it. In the future, they think Right. What is the government doing on its part? Of course, you know, let's go across to Vishwas Sharma who's joining us from Jaipur.

[00:06:37]Yeah, of course, the petrol is a driving force of the economy and it affects it impacts the customer directly and then the you know, cascading effects we have also seen from 15th May to today in Jaipur, 7 rupees 94 paise has been hiked in petrol and 7 rupees 57 paise in diesel. Today, 2 rupees 82 paise per liter the petrol and 2 rupees 72 paise per liter the diesel has been hiked. Now, the latest rates are here.

[00:08:20]Very, very unfair. We don't know. I think we are looking like at a bottomless pit. We don't know how much it will raise. Probably the government should give clarity.

[00:08:31]This is not on market conditions because the crude price has come down, but the petrol prices here we are going up. What is the government trying to do? Let them be upfront and inform the people of this country how much should we expect? How much until it will go? Will the petrol prices ever come down because there are no elections around until Uttar Pradesh elections in 2027?

[00:08:55]So, what is the government? I think they should take the people into confidence, inform inform the country what are they planning to do.

[00:09:03]These kind of knee-jerk actions are going to affect the common man and the economy.

[00:09:09]Right, sir. What are the options available to the government in you know, in regard to VAT and perhaps excise duty? What are the adjustments that the government perhaps can make on their end?

[00:09:20]See, it's it's not the government is without any recourse. They have had a windfall profit of almost around 45 lakh crores, more than 45 lakh crores in the last 12 years due to excess uh taxes on the petrol and diesel. So, let the government compensate. Let the government subsidize.
