The fence line was still there. The permanent posts and wire that Emmet had run in 1952 and the grass along it was still tall in the dormant season thick and layered from decades of uninterrupted growth.
From the road driving past at highway speed it looked the way it had always looked to people who did not know what they were seeing. It looked like nobody had been paying attention.
