In ant colonies, the first workers (called nanitics) help establish the colony but typically have shorter lifespans than later generations; the presence of a large brood pile indicates significant future colony growth potential.

Day 240 β RIP Little Worker πAdded:
Day 240.
Today I was shocked again.
Another dead ant.
But then I noticed something interesting.
There's also a new ant with a slightly bigger and stronger looking head.
So now I'm thinking these might be the first workers of the colony, the nanitics, reaching the end of their lifespan.
These first tiny workers help the queen start the colony and they usually don't live as long as later generations.
[music] And honestly, looking at the amount of eggs now, there could easily be 50 to 100 [music] future workers developing.
So, we'll see how this colony evolves from here.
For now, rest in peace, little workers, and thank you for your service.
