The Japan-Philippines-USA strategic triangle represents a significant shift in Indo-Pacific geopolitics, where Japan and Philippines have strengthened their alliance to counter China's influence, with both nations supporting Taiwan and establishing enhanced defense cooperation with the United States, including new US military bases in the Philippines, which has prompted China to escalate diplomatic tensions and push Japan toward nuclear weapons acquisition.

GUNNERS SHOT CLIPS : THE US JAPAN PHILIPPINES TRIANGLE SHAKES CHINA / LT GEN PR SHANKARAdded:
And we're going to to uh you know shift our gaze slightly to the east. There's no point in you know keeping on looking at Iran and USA. Everyone says every day that you know all the deal is done and the deal is never done. So we'll leave that. It'll continue in its own way. And uh of course there's one chap called Pagan who says China is a great powerful country economy, military, technology.
It's got everything except people because the people are vanishing and they will talk. It's a country of idiots actually right so that's the way I he's forced me to talk like this but that be that as it may today we're going to talk about three four topics and each topic is segregated it's a small thing gives you a overview what's happening east of us right and uh then we'll see we make a sense of everything by the end uh okay that's how we'll go okay the first thing we're going talk of today is the Japan, Philippines, USA triangle.
And why am I talking of this? You know yesterday actually we should be talking of the quad, isn't it? Because the quad happened yesterday and finished yesterday. But when quad was happening here, something else happened in you know Philippines and Japan. The Philippines president was in Japan yesterday visiting as a state guest and of course this is just a picture and a tweet by one of the Japanese and what happened and all that. He's addressed a diet. It's a state visit and a summit meeting with PM San Ti that's also fine but where does everything fit in? Look at this. Go back. Look this is Philippines and this is Japan. If Philippines and Japan get together and and both support Taiwan, which they are supporting Taiwan and they're sitting on either side of Taiwan and yesterday I did show you that you know first island chain from uh Japan which comes right to the nose of Taiwan.
Where does China go? It goes nowhere. So this visit is very important. you know this vis this visit of uh Fred and Marcos is very very very very important right that's why I thought I'll cover this in the morning and what were the things which were discussed it was all about the west Philippine sea defense and security and maritime cooperation energy cooperation with the United States and Assyrian now all these are prickly things for China, right? You have to go back here. This is South China Sea. The Philippines calls it the Philippine Sea. These people call it the South China Sea. And they have come up to the edge of Philippines and they stretched. Now the way I look at it, you know, when China enters all this area and is here and that, you know, Spratley and Parasel Islands, they have established bases out there. Uh fine.
It's all fine. But remember China is operating 800 to,000 kilometers of mo away from their own you know mainland.
These bases if one of those bases get destroyed this ships have to go back and this thing between Japan and Philippines assumes importance because it was never there earlier. This kind of a meeting could would never happen earlier. And they're talking of cooperation with US and US and Philippines and Japan are treaty partners.
Of course, not Japan and Philippines, but US, Japan, US, Philippines are treaty partners. And what's more, in the past two years, Philippines has allowed America to set up two or four bases, right? Of course earlier they had a great huge base out there but well that's gone but there more bases and more importantly a base has come up in some manner in Luzon this is the northernmost peninsula which is just south of u you know Taiwan that Luzon straight so it's here so China is going to have a lot of problems if you think that you know China is going to have a cakewalk and all that well I don't think so What are the issues you you you know the focus is what when in May when you know 1415 when Trump went and met region ping you know Philippines was not discussed incidentally but Japan was discussed and yesterday we discussed it and I it's now coming out that Zinping raised his voice with uh Trump and you know spoke heatedly about Sanchi and Japan which meant two three things. One is you know he got emotional about it. Who when do people get emotional on you know in such state visits when you know two heads of states are meeting and supposed to be the biggest countries on earth in terms of uh many things and this man starts heating up and talking to Trump and he's either upset I mean he must be upset or he's going to go on the offensive. one of the two and Trump very coolly said nothing. He comes out of the plane which I said again he I mean he comes out of the summit he gets into the plane the moment he gets into the plane he's on talks with Sai so Japan has put the you know heat under Zinping and China now 25th this is day before yesterday the uh MFF spokesperson of China mounting she has gone and ranted against Japan in public against a question we'll see that and it accusing him of going for nuclear weapons and all that like I said yesterday Japan is being pushed into acquiring nuclear weapons by China if China keeps pushing Japan Japan will become a nuclear state right now here in Delhi now Japan and USA relations are not confined only to Japan are not confined to Philippines and Japan meeting in this there was a bilateral meeting between US and Japan.
So simultaneously the US foreign minister and the uh Japanese foreign minister Rubio and you know MGI they are holding a meeting in uh you know Delhi and you see Marcos and Sai Takachi holding a state visit in Japan interesting just think there's a state visit of the head of state and lot of things will be there to discuss and the foreign minister sitting here see the that's the that's the important thing the Philippines I mean uh the Japanese foreign minister was here when a state visit is happening in his country okay so it it it indicates and mind you Japan Philippines are have a major problem with China so Japan whoever is there is handling ing that relationship and the foreign minister is handling this.
Okay. And what this visit was when you put it on when you saw the thing this is following President Trump's visit to China and what they have done is they have re reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan straight. This is the official thing they've come out with. So here is a person who says we are we they're talking of Taiwan straight and there that fellow is talking of ASEAN and you know I'll go back he's talking of West uh Philippine Se maritime cooperation security the the the beauty of this is they are in different locations but the topic is the same different people topic is the same so what is the thing you go back I mean uh I'm going back and forth so that people understand it. Well, the topic is Japan, Philippines, USA triangle.
Okay. Now, what happens? Well, a tweet comes out from the uh Chinese spokesperson. It talks of Japanese militarism and AO all that. But, you know, this is in response to a question by a Japanese. I'll play that. Only thing is the uh language is in uh Japanese and Chinese. I mean whichever that language is. But look at the subtitles. They are in English. Have a look at it. Yeah, there's a small thing but have a look at it. Yeah.
So just see what all she said about Japan actually applies to China.
She's talking of Japan's militarism going nuclear you know peace neomilitarism and all that and oh thing today we the whole world is suffering because of Chinese militarism right and how they say what they do what they talk is completely different they talk something and do something else right >> so right before I get to the quad you know I thought I'll put all this across And now the importance of chord will come up. We'll discuss that. So far what do you make out of this thing which I have spoken about the you know Japan um Philippines US triangle and how things are shaping up and how China is virtually panicking. Over to you for your energy.
>> General uh Shanka without spending too much time the way I see it is that Quad is going to become a hexad with Philippines and South Korea being the members added to this. I think that's how this is headed. Uh especially given the aggression shown by China towards these three countries, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and it might be even Taiwan also joining in the quad but they don't need to have that. But you you see where I'm getting at, right?
