AI chatbots create a psychological addiction that makes users feel productive while actually procrastinating, as the AI never gets tired of listening, validating, and engaging in endless conversations, unlike human interactions that naturally lead to action; this represents the smartest addiction because it makes users feel smarter and more productive without actually being productive.

Ai is making me weirdly uselessHinzugefügt:
I have been working on a video for a week on whether AI is a bubble.
Yeah, crazy. I know. Super super unique, but the point of it was to cut through all of the BS and like figure it out.
Like is it a good investment to invest in Nvidia and Google and all these companies. Is it um are are Open AI and Anthropic going to exist in the next year? And of course, as we all do, I was using AI to help with the video.
And I just hit this point about 5 minutes ago where I have gone round and round and round and round and round and round with with this chatbot on the video, on the script, on the key points, on the thumbnail, on all the stuff that the bubble is here. Like the bubble is here. It's too much. It's too much information and my head is going to explode. And it made me realize that a lot of what I was going to talk about in the video was just happening to me. So it was very, you know, meta, so to speak, that it was um affecting me in the moment. So I decided to just turn on the camera with no script and post this video because it is going to be just a raw rant. It's not an anti AI video. It's not. I use AI all the time. It It's very useful in so many ways.
But it's also very unhealthy from a productivity standpoint if you're using it, whether it's for like therapy or uh work or whatever it might be. I'm not talking about workflows. This like AIs AI in large language models, the number one benefit is coding. Like I can pretty much code anything I want now and I don't really know code very well. Like that's the biggest gain by far. It's not even close.
The second biggest is obviously that it can just generate unlimited text.
But that's not a good thing. It's It's not a good thing. It's way too much and my head is going to explode because you go round and round and round with this thing.
Round and round and round and round.
It's like you you're validated. You become like addicted to this just cycle of like talking to it and it talks back and it tells you not just like good job.
Even when it's telling you like hey that's not a good idea or I've told it to tell me when it's not a good idea. So it forces saying something's not a good idea and it just like continues forever and ever and ever and it's just this psychological addiction because we all kind of just want somebody to like hear us and listen to us and like brainstorm with us and challenge us and help us and this thing never sleeps. And I think what makes like a human experience so special like take a business for example. Like I've had business partners.
We We just get tired of talking about something so we go do it. Like we just finally go do it. This thing will never get tired ever of listening to you, invalidating you, and talking to you.
And it's so it's like here's my biggest takeaway.
It is the greatest procrastination illusion I could have ever imagined. Like when we would when people doom scroll, they feel shame about it at least or like watch TV forever. They like yeah, I'm kind of wasting my time here. I should be productive. This thing is so good at making you think you're productive when you're actually a lot of times not, that it's like it feels like the final the final frontier of digital the digital world totally captivating our minds. And that doesn't scare me. It's because everybody's always scared by the latest technology. Like technology doesn't scare me because it's just like the internet and social media. If you use it correctly and you use it you know, uh responsibly, they can be very powerful. Same thing with AI. It's a great tool but there's a very thin line between whether something is a tool or a drug. And I mean that's in actual drugs, too. Like we use very similar drugs to help our health that are also exploited uh not exploited but like um you know, used for uh um you know, dealing with things, substance abuse, you know what I mean?
So, I just wanted to hit I just wanted to hit record and I'm going to post this and I don't really care because I'm like I just needed to say this. Like I needed to like this is what I really want to do with my channel. I just want to talk and like you go you go down these like rabbit holes of like all these things and it it's just telling you, "Yeah, this and this and in in like it gives you good ideas." It's like AI, chatbot, chat chappy chat GPT, all this stuff. Like it gives you legitimately good ideas. Like and it's getting better all the time but it has that fundamental procrastination illusion that is still true, just as true as it was 2 years ago. And again, some of you might be saying like, "Yeah, okay, Scott, you don't know how to use it. That's the problem." Like, "Okay, like but I do know how to use it but it's still just another form of procrastination whether you you know, like like say okay, you I'm using on GPT, So then Gemini comes out with something or Google comes out with something on Gemini and I'm like, "Oh, I'll switch over there. Oh, this is so good. This is so good." And Gemini's not just telling me what I want to hear and it's the answers are shorter. This is really cool. And then chat GPT launches something or Anthropical launches something and you jump over and then Openclaw comes around and you're like, "Oh, this is awesome. Like a proactive agent. I'm going to have I'm going to have my agent wake me up in the morning and say, 'Hey, wake up. Here's a YouTube idea.'" So I spend 2 days coding what is essentially 10 minutes of my time, like my actual time to just read. And it's like, okay, that was fun. And like that's the thing.
It's like there's nothing wrong with having fun with it. Like that's that's a whole different thing, but I find when I try to use a chatbot to actually be productive, I'm not. Like I ultimately I'm just procrastinating in an in a way that makes me feel smarter, but I'm actually not any smarter. And that to me is the problem. And to go back to the beginning of the video I was going to make, which I'm not going to make now, is no, AI is not a bubble because it's the same reason social media wasn't a bubble or the internet wasn't a bubble. They're not bubbles because they're addictive and it's the smartest addiction ever. It's like It's like a drug that while you're taking it is telling you that you're doing the right thing, you know? At least with other addictions we know they're wrong and we know we should like work on them. I mean I don't know if you can hear that.
There's a guy out there with a saw and it's been annoying me and I like was originally not going to hit play because I was or hit record because I was like, this guy like I can't concentrate. Like it's going to you're going to hear it in the video and I was like, at least he's doing something real.
>> [laughter] >> At least he's building something.
Presumably he's not just running a saw into the sky, running around over there like this saying like like woo and like I'm I'm I'm building something and that's what we're all doing. And I'm not like a ranter like this and I'm not a performer.
But I'm kind of like I don't know. I'm glad I made this video but now I'm going to shut up. That's all. Bye.
