Bonnie & Clyde in SPIDER WORLDAdded:
This is Clyde. He is a jumping spider.
And not just any kind of jumping spider.
He is a regal jumping spider. One of the biggest jumping spider species in the world. Scientifically named Fidipus Regius. And he doesn't know it yet, but this is his girlfriend, Barney. She's also a regal jumping spider, and they have never met each other, but that is soon going to change. To be honest, when it comes to jumping spiders, I'm really not that knowledgeable. And while it is super easy for me to recognize a mature male tarantula, I am not that sure with Clyde. He's always kind of hiding his petty pups. So I can't really verify if he has bulbs. Uh in case you don't know, once male spider matures, he get bulbs on top of his petty pups. What I wasn't aware until recently, unlike tarantulas, some spider species get bulbs before the ultimate mold. And from what I gathered online, it's the same case with fine puss. So even if I could spot the bulbs on him, I still wouldn't know if he's ready for, you know, haba haba. So I decided to just introduce them and see what will happen.
Tarantulas don't really have a good eyesight. So doing something like this wouldn't really be a smart thing because introducing a male that is potentially not mature. Introducing him to a female that is mature could potentially just mean lunch for female. But when it comes to jumping spiders, you know, they have really, really good eyesight and they look around. So they will see each other and then we will see their reaction and then hopefully I will be able to decide if this is a safe thing to do or not.
I'll get both of their enclosures on the same side. And you will see this will be a bit tricky because Clyde is here while Bonnie is right there. So, I think that I will just use my fingers to get them out on the top of their enclosure. Both of them on the same place. And then we will observe. I need you to go out.
Boink. Boink. And if you're wondering why I cannot just pull the top panel outside, her height here is connecting the panels. So I cannot pull it without destroying it and I don't really want to destroy her hide. So she is outside.
Okay, I will close I will close her enclosure. And now Clyde getting him on correct spot might be a bit more trickier or maybe Okay, there we go. Now for the first time they will be able to see each other. And I'm wondering if she already spotted him. Can you see that far? He's facing the wrong side. And there's me recording. Hello. And if you're wondering, didn't they already see each other through the enclosures? Not really, because while I kept their enclosures on the same shelf, there was always an enclosure in between them. So, they never had a direct eyesight. I'll get him a bit closer. That should be good. And now we wait. But he again turned. And she is also facing the wrong side. Come on, guys. We are waiting for the show. And I think that I will need the tripod for this. Okay, there we go.
And now I'm thinking if this doesn't work, I will get each of them on their own piece of cork bark and then I will just put the coreback on the table and rotate it as I see fit. Yeah, that would be the best actually. What am I talking?
I can rotate the enclosure.
Clight turns. That is a good thing. So now Hello. Hello. Do you guys see each other? Who will make the first move?
That's the question. This is like a face off. What are you doing? He's doing something with his petty pops. Is that a good sign? I sure hope so. Or he's just doing that randomly. We just need someone to move and then the other will spot it immediately. At least I hope so.
Go. You are not interested, huh? You don't like his color or something? He's beautiful. Look at him. Oh, no. No, no, no.
Okay, now she turned her back on him.
How rude. We didn't spot him. To me, he definitely looks like he is observing her.
Yeah, definitely. Back to the tripod.
So, he turned on the other side and she turned back at him.
I think that if I turn this enclosure, I can get her even closer to him. Clyde, I need you to turn the other way because Bonnie is really, really close. Like super close. Come on, guy.
I'm wondering if he's just not aware or he's not mature. So that's why he's kind of actively ignoring her right now. Mhm.
Oh.
What do we have here?
Oh, is that some sort of interaction?
I don't really know. He just doesn't care. H I know. It looks like she's just walking like that. See? Oh, man. So cute. Like she's searching to hang on to something.
She's trying to reach for something. Oh, I think that he spotted her now. Oh, yeah. Look at this. He definitely spotted her now.
Hey, hey, hey. Hey guys, will you be What was that? Are you guys friendly?
Look how she's staring at him.
He's approaching her sideways. What is this? What is actually going on? I need to move this enclosure away so I can turn them like this. What is happening, guys? She is looking the wrong way. But could you see how her petty pulps created the safety line? Huh? They're still on the wrong side. Oh, yeah. This will be good. H. Now what? Judging by his behavior now, I'm wondering if he was just stalking her as a prey or something. I don't know. Or that was just a part of their ritual. I don't know. I was expecting some signals, you know, hand signals like they do in videos. Come on, man. Go back. Okay. Now looking on top I think I can definitely see his bulbs. You see? Yeah. From the top like this they are visible. Okay.
Okay. So he is mature or actually yeah as I said previously they get their bobs before they actually mature. So I don't know the difference. But it looks like once again we need to wait. Or maybe that was their entire interaction.
Although I fed him yesterday quite literally yesterday. So, I don't know if he's still hungry. His abdomen is not that big. You see, it is much smaller when you compare it with her abdomen, but she will basically always eat when I offer food to her. And more often than not, he will refuse food. So, I cannot really get him to have a bigger abdomen.
Am I tripping or he's like sliding down?
Huh?
Look, when he stops, you see he's slowly sliding on this glass. Yeah. I wonder why that is. It just seems like outside glass is more sleek. I probably cleaned it recently. I don't really remember, but he doesn't really have that problems in his enclosure. This is so funny to see. Yeah, just climb up and go up and then you won't be sliding. Maybe that is confusing him and he doesn't know what is happening really.
But yeah, it looks like once again he's going up unless he decides to go down again. No, don't just go up. That is where Bunny is. Come on.
Okay, there we go. Do you see her? Yeah, she's right there covering her eyes.
What is she doing? I have no idea.
Okay, he's back at it again. You see?
Ah, this is definitely some signaling going on. Definitely because he's never doing anything like this. Do you want to send some signals back at him? Maybe yes, maybe no.
They are so cute, right?
Wow, so dramatic.
He is definitely showing off or something. But why are you facing over there? What are you doing? Don't you see where she is? Or you are supposed to do it like that. Acting like you are too cool to look directly at her.
No. Where are you? What? What? Man, she's right there. Right there. Come on.
You will just slide down if you go down.
He got so twitchy. Maybe he is mad that she's not responding or sending back some signals. She's just looking at him like she's judging him or something. I really don't know. But this is definitely funny. Oh, she's not moving.
Couple of steps. Couple of steps. Yeah.
Are you tired of his shenanigans?
Ooh. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Look at Oh, what?
Now we have some real interaction.
Oh, no. No. No. Are you No. Are you fighting? Are you guys fighting? Don't fight. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop.
Stop. Stop. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
No. No. No. No. No.
I really don't know if I was supposed to break that up or not. Maybe that was mistake. I panic to be honest. I need tweezers and I have no idea where they are. Here they are. Man, my heart is racing now. Maybe I'm just too used to tarantulas. I need to see some pairing videos of them. What? But what was that sound? Bonnie jumped somewhere and I cannot see where she is. Ah, she's over there. Come on. Don't scare me like that. I'm going to just put you inside of this cup. Okay. Yeah, just like that.
And now give me a second or two. Okay. I checked three different clips and they all looked different. In each clip, female was basically just sitting there doing nothing really while the guy was doing all the work. So, I think it was actually a good call that I separated them. Hopefully, it was a good intuition. Now, I will go and check out the the video that I made to see what actually went down because oof oof oof.
Hey, as you see, couple of weeks passed and women changed the angle of the camera. In the meantime, I talked to Cat and she also was like, "Oh, that is not how it's supposed to look." And she told me that what she did, she just put the male into a female's enclosure and that was it. She kept them together for some time and eventually female dropped an egg sack. So, I was thinking that despite how the previous attempt looked, he's getting old and he won't live for much longer. So it is much better to give him an opportunity to fulfill his natural role despite that being risky.
In the end, that is how it is in the nature. So I wanted to do that. But now as I sat down to record the video, look at this. The female is in this web pouch. And this is not her usual house.
Her house is on this side. You see this is where she lives. So it looks like she's preparing to mold because she is fully closed in. There is no entrance.
There is web on all sides of this pouch.
And yeah, she's reacting now, but she cannot go out, which is something I'm hoping it will happen because that will explain why she was hostile to Clyde.
And then after she molts, we can once again introduce them. Now I want to feed him if he will be interested because as I said, he is kind of iffy eater. More often, he will not be interested. Hey Clyde, a roach is right there. Yes. Yes, there's a roach. And Mhm. Oh, can you be a bit more serious there? No. Clyde, come on. You see, he's getting old.
Where is the roach? Roach actually escaped. I will get another one because he definitely looks interested. Got another one. And the the one that is inside will be a hopefully some later snack.
What the hell? I hope I recorded that.
Oh, look. He is using his safety line.
Clyde, here we go. Another attempt. Oh, yes.
And it actually was a good one. Nice, Clyde. Enjoy that roach. And you have another one somewhere in the enclosure for later. I wish you good luck hunting it and catching it. And it is actually really cool that he's on the cork bar because he's never on the cork bar. He's always on the side of the glass or on top of the glass. So this is the rare side. Excellent. Excellent. And now you must be wondering, okay, now this video will be actually really short. Is there something else? Well, yes there is. We will continue in this in this direction in the direction of risky breedings. As you know, this is a pilotia metallica male and today he made this sperm web which means that he prepared himself for cat. You know, we tried to breed them a while ago, but she was also very hostile towards him. So, I haven't tried to pair them again. And now I'm thinking the same thing as with Clyde. He is also really old. I think that he won't live for much longer and I really don't want him to go to waste. So, we will try it once again and see if we will have any more luck. We have a classic tactic. I will poke him and guide him right into female's enclosure. Yeah, just like that. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. There we go. I'll move this out of the way and we can focus what? And we can just focus on them. Last time he was driving like crazy, but Kat was kind of ignoring him and she was a bit hostile. So, I'm really hoping that today she will be a bit more interested in him, but not in a I want to eat you and that's why I'm interested way. Okay. Yeah. Right. Oh, she's moving again and he is drumming. I won't be no matter what will happen, I won't try to I won't holler about them and try to save him or protect him because if she doesn't accept him, he will just die in next month or so. So this way he would at least go down as a warrior, you know, as a brave warrior.
And she's creeping again, but no drumming from her.
Well, oh man. Holy.
He is still drumming while she's on her gardening duty. I'm thinking there is no way that she is in a premol or anything like that because she molded relatively recently like four or five months ago, maybe even more six months ago. So what would be the reason why she's acting like this? Only she knows. In the meantime, I'm going to watch some show.
Actually, instead of watching the show, I decided to be productive and do the scheduled maintenance, water all the enclosures, and feed the scheduled animals. And I found out something interesting. Look at Bonnie.
My predictions were wrong. She's now outside out of her pouch. So I guess she is not in a primalt after all. And now I cannot introduce Clyde because he's still munching on the roach. You see, it will take some time before he is done.
So we will need to do a time jump. And it is next day. Female is still out. So we have a chance here on top. And honestly, I don't really understand why they like to hang from the top so much.
I don't understand why they prefer that.
Look at Clyde. His abdomen is now a bit bigger, right? And it looks like he's actually maintaining his fangs or or petty pulps. I'm not really sure. He's maintaining something. So, I will try to be gentle with this. Hey Clyde, you will have another chance with Bonnie, but hopefully this time your dancing will be a bit more impressive to her and she won't try to eat you this time. Okay, let's see if I can do the same thing with her.
Okay, right where we started.
Bonnie, I need your complete cooperation now. Please just make babies together.
That is not too much to ask, right? And unfortunately, you cannot see from this angle. You cannot see on top of her enclosure. So, we won't have two angles of the action, potential action. But of course, classic thing, they are not facing each other. And he resumed his fang cleaning action. I should use this opportunity and get a closeup of that.
Okay, I'm here now. You can continue.
Oh, look at that.
What is he actually doing? I can't really figure it out. Is he cleaning tips of the petty popups? It looks like that, right? It looks almost as if he's eating them.
Such a cool footage. And now he's cleaning his eyes.
In last video, we have seen Bonnie how she is cleaning herself like this. And now he is doing the same thing. And Bonnie is on the move. Look, Clyde has spotted her. But I don't have appropriate lens to record whatever will happen. So I should quickly change it.
Although it seems like she's moving away from him. Bonnie. Bonnie. That is wrong side. Do you want to grab lights?
Oh, hey. She didn't even she didn't even react at first. Oh, once again, he's displaying his affection.
Yeah, definitely. And this time it looks like she's not showing any form of aggression. She's just observing him.
But this is a bit unfortunate because they went over there and I have wrong lens. Okay, quickly, quickly, quickly.
Okay, guys, come over here.
H C Glide, it seems like she's not really that impressed or she's waiting for you. I don't know. She's kind of approaching.
Maybe not.
Are you pooping?
Really, Bonnie?
I cannot believe this. Have you seen that, Clyde? Thankfully, he didn't because that would be a bit of a turnoff. But he's kind of freaking out as if he lost where she is and now she's panicking a little bit. She's over there other side. Let's go. Hilarious. Oh, but look, that is a lot of poop for such a small spider, right? Okay, they are back on track. And this is actually something that she should do. She should be like calm and just wait for him to do his business, you know.
Oh, what the hell, Bonnie? What was that?
Was that supposed to happen? I don't think so. Sorry, Clyde. I think that was a brain fart or something. And he's once again freaking out. Should I bring him down or her up? Maybe if I tilt the enclosure. Ah, that would actually be the good good idea.
Okay. Okay. Now you can see what is happening even from here. But we will need to bring him down a bit.
Okay, there we go. Dude, she's right beside you. It is incredible. They have They should have an awesome eyesight bite. This definitely doesn't look like an awesome eyesight, dude. She's right here. Yes. Yes. You're now facing her.
Stop looking at me. Look at her.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay.
Now there is some action. Finally.
Okay.
Oh, mind. Mind the poop. That's your poop.
Heat.
Heat.
Hum. I think that I will need to do the tarantula cat's thing and just put him inside of her enclosure and let them cohabit for a while. She obviously don't want to eat him. Actually, I won't cohabit them together. I will put them each in their own enclosure, but I'll just open their enclosures and you will see. First, I will get Clyde to climb his cork bark.
Yes, he will go into his enclosure and then I will get the bunny inside there. You can go in your enclosure there. I'll clean this poop because it is bugging me. And now what I will do, I'll just open their enclosures and get them together like H. Unfortunately, this won't work. I forgot that I have these. So, I cannot pull the enclosures all the way together. and I will need to add him to her enclosure and hope for the best. He is still on the cork bark, so I can take that and put it inside.
Thankfully, their enclosures are really, really large, so they have plenty of space to move around and avoid each other if needed or to do whatever they want to do. So, I'm pretty sure that it will be fine. And in a week, we will get him out and hope that it went down, right? So, in next video, you can expect an update.
