NYC Mayor Mamdani announces "block by block" affordable housing initiative

[00:00:00]Mayor Mamdani just announced a new block-by-block housing initiative in his effort to tackle the city's affordable housing crisis. Speaking in Brooklyn this morning, the mayor said the city government plans to build 200,000 new affordable rent-stabilized homes over the next decade. It will also preserve and stabilize an additional 200,000 homes. The mayor says his plan will make it easy for New Yorkers to buy a home, including creating hundreds of new affordable co-ops and community land trusts. Combined, these efforts will lead to growth beyond anything New Yorkers have seen in generations. For some, the dream of home ownership will finally be within reach. Others will be able to sleep easily in homes they no longer fear losing. Go after it and get it. The mayor also announced a legislative task force to overhaul the city's outdated housing maintenance code and crack down on negligent landlords.
