[00:00:01]The Tartan Terrorists is the informal name for Scottish separatist group formed by former soldier Adam Busby in 1980. The group's official name is the Scottish National Liberation Army or the SNLA for short, and its main aim is the complete separation and independence of Scotland from the rest of the United Kingdom through the use of direct action up to and including domestic terrorism.

[00:00:30]The SNLA are known for conducting arson attacks on a number of public locations, but what the group is best known for is their number of letters and packages that they have sent to numerous public figures including politicians and even members of the royal family.

[00:00:46]The SNLA were known for mailing death threats, bullets, anthrax, and even actual letter bombs to these individuals. Some were even deliberate hoaxes. By the year 2012, these activities faded out with the build-up to the Scottish Independence Referendum.

[00:01:03]The group, for the time being, have agreed to a ceasefire. However, Adam Busby's story arc did not end there.

[music] Adam Busby is currently wanted in the US for terrorist activities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He's also been arrested and jailed multiple times in Ireland for the exact same things.

[00:01:37]But, in an unexpected twist of fate, Busby was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. But, this news was not made public until some years later. Since 2015, he has been deemed physically and mentally incapable to stand trial. As of 2017, he is now in the advanced stages of the disease and lives in Glasgow under 24-hour medical care.
