[00:00:06]So, today we're going to talk about Tucker Carlson apologizing for supporting Trump and the 25th Amendment.

[00:00:16]On Monday, the well-known conservative commentator surprised a lot of people by publicly apologizing for the role he played in bringing Trump to power.

[00:00:28]Tucker Carlson's younger brother, Buckley, started off with, quote, "The 25th Amendment is there for a reason.

[00:00:36]It's not crazy to talk about it in this context. If our country is suffering great and lasting damage, which it seems to be, then sober minds need to come in and exercise what power they have for the benefit of all of us."

[00:00:54]Tucker took it further and implied they shared in the guilt for Trump's actions and said, quote, "I mean, you and I and everyone else who supported him. You wrote speeches for him. I campaigned for him. I mean, we're implicated in this for sure." It's not enough to say, "Well, I changed my mind." Or like, "Oh, this is bad. I'm out.

[00:01:23]He went on to say, quote, "So, I do think it's like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences.

[00:01:31]We'll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be. And I want to say I'm sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional." That's all I'll say.

[00:01:44]Okay. So, the obvious questions coming in are about why this is happening all of a sudden. First, it's not really all of a sudden. We've talked for quite some time about how Trump is entering his lame duck phase. For many, he's no longer useful. But with Tucker, and this is personal opinion. I think there's two things at play. First is that Tucker has really only been consistent about one thing. Ever since Iraq, he was anti-interventionist.

[00:02:19]he supported Iraq and he was one of the only conservatives to come out and say, "Hey, we got this one wrong."

[00:02:27]I actually believe that's a genuine position he holds.

[00:02:32]So, the unnecessary elective war in Iran that isn't well planned and based on shifting reasons probably genuinely doesn't sit well with him. But there's another thing that might be at play.

[00:02:46]People like Tucker cast themselves as anti-establishment figures.

[00:02:52]It's getting harder and harder to cast Trump, the establishment billionaire that bounced between parties, who while in power is just working through a wish list of establishment priorities at the expense of the working class as anti-establishment because he's not.

[00:03:11]A lot of personalities will have to shift their public personas and positions on Trump soon if they expect to be able to continue to play the outsider as time goes on.

[00:03:24]I wouldn't expect Tucker Carlson to be the last major figure to publicly disavow Trump. I would imagine you'll see more before the midterms.
