Adding the CUTEST Diamond Doves to My Bird Room!Added:
The quarantine is finally over and I get to show you my two new dream birds.
That's right, they were on my dream bird list. I got two diamond doves. Let's go have a look at them.
So, they're already in the bird room.
I will show you where they are.
They are right here beside Monty.
They might be a little bit scared of the camera. I'm just going to work slowly.
But, here they are.
Aw, they're so pretty.
Now, these are a color mutation. These are the red diamond doves. They're not the normal gray uh color that you would see. And aw.
They're so cute. So, I've had them for 6 weeks. They're in quarantine and they just came into the bird room last night.
And everybody was in their cage. I put them in the bird room. I do have steps of how I introduce um you know, new birds to my flock that you can see on my channel. I'll put a link down below in the description as well.
And so, what I do is quarantine them first and then I'll bring them up to the bird room where everybody's in the cage and they can all see each other through the bars.
And then I let out my new birds first to explore my bird room. If you're new to my channel, this is my bird room. I have a lot of birds that um they are caged at night for sleeping.
Here's little glitter.
And they're out all day.
So, I got This is where they like to hang out [snorts] mostly and then what is a big window there and then I have um some other uh rope and some toys up there so that they can just uh fly around. They also have this tree in the middle and more items up here.
So, all my birds are back in the cages and it's time to let out these two.
They are 3 months old today, actually.
Uh today and yesterday. They are siblings. It looks like one is a male and one's a female. These are one of the smallest doves and they are very, very tiny. But, uh they're male and female.
I'm not going to breed them, obviously, but I know they do like to breed, so I'll have to take care of that um eventually when it comes to it cuz they're only babies right now.
So, they're 3 months old and I've had them for 6 weeks, so I got them when they were 6 weeks old.
So, what I did is I just put these preening toys in here in case they want to pull at something and and preen away.
They got some uh this basil, some this is a leafy green here that they can pick away. And doves, they like to eat off the ground. So, I put their food on the ground. They have a mixture of finch seed and budgie seed right here.
And this is a mixture of this is some fresh food, there's some sprouts and microgreens and broccoli and and all kinds of things. And then their water dish that they can bathe in or drink.
They do have another bowl here to drink from. And they have a bowl of grit. Now, these are the only birds in my bird room that need grit. Um they are My other birds don't need grit because they hull the seeds, but diamond doves eat their food like they swallow it. They don't hull their their seeds, so they do need grit to help, you know, grind down the food.
So, what I'm going to be doing right now is I'm going to be letting them out of the cage so that they can explore on their own and then I introduce them slowly to the rest of the birds.
Now, I don't know if they're going to come out on their own. This could take a while or I'll just film them once they're out, but I can see if one likes to step up because one was stepping up for me.
Let me just try this one here. Hello.
Step up.
Step up.
Hello. Maybe it was the other one. Is it you?
Step up.
Step up. Yay.
Oh, let me see little stand on my finger. No.
>> [laughter] >> I thought I can get it to step up and and come out. What I'm going to do is just leave this door open and wait for them to come out. I'm standing on the opposite side of the room just to give them some space. They're moving around.
They're looking and hopefully they'll just they'll just come out. So, these were on my dream bird list along with the princess parrot. I've always wanted a princess parrot or diamond doves. I could just never I could never find any diamond doves. And I really wanted a baby. I wanted actually a hand-fed one or a tame one. These are babies and one does kind of step up that I can work with them. I didn't want, you know, too skittish or too wild of the diamond doves. And honestly, I never seen them anywhere up for sale, never. So, yes, I did buy these ones from a breeder.
And I'm excited. And the princess parrot I won't be getting if one comes available because you know, I am getting older and I have four bigger parrots in my other room. And I just don't have space for another large um parrot in my living room. The The parrots are in a separate room from these small birds.
So, anyways, I figured, well, these were on my list. They don't live as long as a princess parrot and uh I think it'll work out. And hopefully they'll get along with my flock. They kind of remind me of the the Bourke's parakeets.
How they you know, they don't scream.
They're quiet. They do the cooing. It's so so pretty. I've heard them cooing.
And um you know, they go to the ground to eat. Sort of like the Bourke's. And when they fly, their wings make uh a noise. But I think Yeah, it looks like they're they're interested to come down. They're bob They're bobbing their little heads. I love their movements. Um it's so adorable.
And I love their Well, their colors and they got those little spots.
Oh, maybe they're going to come.
Goodbye.
They keep looking down at the door and one moved to the other perch.
And I'm sure I'm sure they're going to come out any minute now.
Oh, the food's getting lower. It's getting lower.
You know, I've always loved pigeons and doves. I have doves that come to my backyard that are wild. They're the mourning doves and I just love them. I can watch them for hours. I love the way they walk and they coo and they eat. And I love pigeons as well. I used to have a pet pigeon when I was younger. And um I just I just love them so much and I've always wanted maybe a pigeon or a dove.
So, I got these two and well, now I'm happy.
Look, he's picking at the greens.
Now, with these these two um the diamond doves, you can tell Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
You can tell the male from a female by their eye rings. The male will have a more um darker color and more pronounced eye ring than the female. That's why I'm thinking they're a male and female. But, these are brother and sister, so yeah, I can't really let them breed.
What's that little guy doing? Listen.
Come on, guys. The door is right there.
You can just fly right out.
You see how he eats that green?
Yep, he took a piece and swallowed it.
Now, they are very messy birds. When they eat, they uh basically, you know, put their beak back and forth and fling seeds everywhere. You can see when they eat uh the greens, they just kind of flick it around and hopefully get a piece.
Um so, they are very messy.
One came out right to the window, of course. He's down there.
Okay, I'll let it be. Now, the other one This is what all the new birds do. They just fly around, possibly crash into everything, crash into the walls, the windows, until they get to know the room, then they're fine.
He's cooing.
I don't know which one was cooing, but they're probably cooing for each other.
Come on down. Okay, so the dove flew over there. Look at him on the perch, right by the budgies. And the other one's still in the cage.
Look at the budgies. They're like, "What's that?
That doesn't look like a budgie."
Look at them all looking.
Look at the budgies.
>> [laughter] >> They're all quiet, staring.
They're like, "You're a strange-looking budgie."
Look at Fruit Fly. He came closer.
He came closer to see what the dove was.
He's just sitting there.
The other one's still in the cage. This is taking a long time.
Okay, the second one came out. It's right there.
This one flies higher.
They are molting, so I think that's why the other one flew lower, because they can fly.
Aw, look where he is. Where's the other one? He's still sitting with the budgies.
I want to see them get together.
Look at that. He found a perch to land on. That's so cute. Look at you. You got all this space to fly now.
He looks so pretty. Let me get a picture.
Okay, where's your buddy?
What are you doing?
What are you doing? I don't want to scare you. You fly when you're ready, okay?
Your friend's up there. He is molting. I think he lost a few feathers in his uh his wings, like his flight feathers.
So, hopefully he can get up there.
Or they can hang out together somewhere.
Oh.
They are called diamond doves because of all the little markings on their wings that look like diamonds.
You see them all? They're so pretty.
The first one is right there. He got up to the top. So, hopefully he can get up there to meet his little friend. Anyways, I need your help with their names. I do have names in mind and I want you to let me know which ones you think are Oh, there he goes. He can fly. Which ones are best. So, I was thinking to name them either Sparkles and Diamond or Star and Galaxy.
Galaxy because you know, there's the spots on their wings looks like a galaxy and star, well, they look like stars.
And Sparkles, well, they're sparkly to me.
>> [laughter] >> And Diamond, that's what they are, diamond doves, but they look like diamonds and that's what they were named after. And so, let me know which names you like and then I will decide what to name them. So, one is here on the boing.
So, you're already on the boing? And one is here >> [laughter] >> up here on the wacky perch. You look so pretty up there. Look at you walk.
It's been about an hour.
And basically, they're just hanging out.
They haven't sat beside each other. They were cooing and they were both preening.
When one preens, the other one preens.
>> [snorts] >> So, they're very docile birds.
That's why they're similar to the Bourke parakeet. They almost act the same, same way, but they look different, of course.
Gentle, docile, quiet.
Well, they aren't doing much. I was hoping they'd go into the bath. I think they're preening because they hear the the bath water. [music] Finally, they're together.
There they are. They said, "Look at me.
Look how pretty we are."
So beautiful, so pretty. See, they're preening.
I wonder if they're just getting ready to take a bath.
I am so happy to finally have these beautiful red diamond doves in the bird room. I can't wait to see how they settle in and start interacting with everyone else. Make sure you're subscribed with notifications on because I'll be sharing an update very soon on the very first week here.
Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one.
