African Samurai? The True Story of Yasuke ⚔️ #Yasuke #AfricanSamurai #JapanHistoryAjouté :
The most legendary samurai was black.
It's 1579.
Japan is in the Sengoku period. No strong shogun. Real power lies with warlords. Loyalty is law. A foreigner arrives in Japan with Portuguese missionaries. Not a noble. Not a warrior. [music] A servant. A man of towering height, immense strength, and dark skin Japan has never seen before.
People stop and stare. They describe his skin as black like ink. His power feels unreal.
Whispers follow him everywhere. Two years later, word reaches the most powerful warlord in Japan, >> [music] >> Oda Nobunaga. Nobunaga demands to see him, and when he does, he's fascinated.
[music] Not just by his appearance, but by his intelligence, discipline, and strength.
>> [music] >> Then, something unheard of happens.
Nobunaga gives him a sword, gives him the name Yasuke. He is allowed to fight.
He is welcomed into the lord's inner circle. An African man becomes [music] a samurai. Yasuke rides into battle, fights beside Nobunaga, and earns the respect of warriors. The power in Japan is fragile. In 1582, Nobunaga is betrayed by his own general. Honno-ji burns. Katanas clash in smoke-filled darkness. Fire consumes [music] the temple halls. Yasuke fights through the flames, defending his lord. But Nobunaga is surrounded, [music] defeated. He chooses death over capture, and Yasuke lays down his sword. They spare his life, saying he is not Japanese. He is sent back to the [music] Jesuit missionaries, and from that moment, his fate disappears. But his name remains forever carved into Japan's history.
