Birds that have been confined for extended periods (such as 2-3 weeks) can quickly develop flight capabilities when released into open spaces, as demonstrated by the various bird species (Canadians, Grizzles, Rollers, Homers) that were able to fly immediately upon being let out of their coops on a Memorial Day afternoon.

Canadians, Birminghams and Homer's Memorial Day FlyAdded:
Memorial Day fly right here.
Giving out the Canadians, you know what I mean? They're just coming out.
Most of the rollers went in. There's only a few out, so I think I'll let these guys out.
They've been in for a couple weeks as well.
They've been looking for that grit.
Put the grit down.
There you go. Put that grit down.
Right there. Yeah.
Yep.
Some of them are flying. Like I said, they haven't been out for 2 weeks, so It's super cloudy. Just stopped raining.
It's drizzling all morning. It was raining real hard, then it turned to a drizzle.
Now it's stopping, so hopefully it don't start back start back up.
These things start to rock in a little while.
The dots or what not, so they do.
You know? See the crow trying to mess around with the birds and see the black bird hitting the floor.
Right there.
See the little blackbird going after the crow.
All right.
They're trying to get their eggs or whatever.
See? See them up.
Right there.
All right.
Yeah, these guys going up. Let me zoom in some.
Take these guys out.
Right here.
Just coming out.
Come on, guys.
>> My guys.
They're happy to be back out, as you can see.
They're all happy.
Looking nice and crisp.
And fresh.
Looking real nice.
Healthy. You know what I mean? They're looking good, you know?
Looking real good, man. Those Canadians look real nice and fresh. Oh, the Grizz- Grizz- Grizz look sharp.
Looking really really good.
Yep.
Those went up real high, like I said.
They will climb. These will climb too, once they get up, you know what I mean?
So, anyway guys, I got things to do. So, I just let them out. I'm going to let them hang out while these rollers go in, and then maybe lock them up, and then let out the other rollers. We'll see.
All right.
Let's watch. Yeah.
You want to take them out? Munching out.
Munching out. Canadians, how beautiful they look. See them out.
Check that out.
A lot of babies, man. A lot of babies around.
These guys.
I fed them good last night, too.
When they eat, they'll hit the dots. So, for now I'm letting them eat, and then I'll come back out and uh let them chip a little bit, and then I'll chase them up.
Later.
>> I got the rollers off in the middle coop. You know, they didn't come out again, almost 3 weeks.
And um a lot of babies in there. I got to go in and band up a lot of babies and um some babies that probably out here without a band.
Not sure.
I think that little white up there.
The little mean pencil looking one. No, I think I got him.
Or left.
See what I'm going to do with three. The rest I'm going to go band up.
Yeah, man.
Happy to be out.
Trying to get everybody out.
Happy to yell.
Kick box birds on the left there out this morning and then had out the Canadians and grizzles off most of the day. Now I'll let these guys out. I've been a little busy.
Really? So It's a little mountain as already.
I don't know what time it is. 5:00, 6:00, I don't even know.
Yeah, man.
Kick them out.
Kick them out.
They're so happy to be out. See that?
Yep.
They are happy.
As you can see.
Yesterday and all night there. She's rolling.
Two yellows are starting to sit tail a little baby.
The rollers too.
They probably rolling soon, I guess.
There is a roller. So It's going to start rolling.
The West of England right here, baby.
See it right there?
Nice. Little yellow West of England.
Look at that.
Look at the blue right there, West of England. Look at the little yellow West of England. Look at the boots. See how big they are?
Look at them little guys. Look at them out. Look at that.
Big boots.
Big boots. See that?
You know.
Yeah.
Got them out here. Got them out here, man.
These are pure behinds.
Yeah, I'm sure they're stiff and whatnot. Some are flying right now. That guy was rolling up there. Just missed it.
Nice. The green will fly.
Yeah.
The yellow starting to sit tail. There you go. Look. She's sitting tailing.
He'll be rolling soon.
It's the babies.
So yeah, man. These are out on this beautiful Memorial Day afternoon. Um Again, I'm trying to get the birds out little by little, man. I really don't don't want to let them all out together.
I don't Don't want to do that. Just want to keep them with the coop that they're with or they're going in that back coop. Same coop.
All right.
And they're starving, of course. They want me to feed them.
It gives me uh It's easy to lock them up when I go feed them. So it's going to let them chill for a little bit, then I'm going to lock them down.
>> All right. Right now, let me go in and band up some birds.
Put the tray down. They going crazy for it.
Take it away.
All right, let them see that I'm putting the tray. Now, they're closing some of them in. Let's see where the rest go in.
They go trapping in.
At least the ones that know. The new youngsters, I don't know how they're going to make out, but they still be learning today.
Here we go. That yellow bird, man.
Beautiful yellow bird, man. Beautiful.
Look at that yellow. Look at that yellow dog.
Some of them are red. Look how yellow it is.
It's yellow, not red, guys.
It is yellow.
It's yellow. Look at that red. It's not red, guys.
It is It's yellow.
Youngsters got plenty of youngsters, man.
Look at the ones I banded up before I let them win the nest. Some feathers on them. Look at how they already out.
They grow so fast.
Look at that one.
Look at the strawberry right there.
Look at that.
Look at that little strawberry with the with the white bars up there. I just banded him.
And he uh See, he didn't have uh a band, but still small enough to for me to put it in put it on.
And then I banded some of them when they bumped.
All right, so let's see if we lock these guys down or let something else out.
>> All right you guys, I'm going to shut this down. Thanks for watching, as always, enjoy your day.
Later.
Guys, after letting out the Birmingham's, I decided to let out the homers. I'm going to let something else out with us in there. Let out the homers to get a little bit of exercise.
Got babies in there, too. They came out, a couple of them.
They're going to fly somewhere. Oh, there they go.
They broke out real quick. I'm going to keep them back there. They're not going to go too far cuz it's locked up time.
So.
I let anything out.
It's feeding time cuz they're super hungry, aren't you?
There you go, one of the babies. They're bigger than they good with.
Big Grizzle, come on.
Hey, came out. Beautiful.
Yeah.
Couple of them.
Some dungaree the ones.
Yeah, the homers are still flying.
They'll come out to eat these. There go three baby Birmingham's right there.
It's about three Canadians out. Baby, they're all babies, you know what I mean? So, I figured I would let these out.
I'm going to tell them to hop on the coop right here and get some grit, you know?
Then I'll lock them down. Just don't trust them when it's tomorrow morning.
I'll let them out super early.
All right.
Don't trust them when it's early. See if they go out or not.
I'm a mission.
So, I'm going to get a little bit of eating, feeding.
All right, stand by. Guys, they're still flying, man.
Some clapped off, went up with them.
See, there's more flying now.
After letting the yellow blue uh grizzle homer.
I mean, that baby came out yesterday with the flying and I never seen them flying. I seen them in the bunk on a band them before I left. Look at them fly.
He didn't even miss a beat.
He's flying like he's been flying, like he's been out every day.
You know what It's going to be a good bird.
Came out like that, man. It's crazy.
Came out like nothing.
Came out the bunk, you know, right up, no problem.
I mean, I ended with the birds and everything. He was up for a while you see though.
There you go, right there.
He was there for a long time with them and he hung in there, no problem.
He hung.
I know they're hungry, so it's feeding time.
He's just pumped up that they're out, you know what I mean?
He's pumped up.
They don't even want to come down. It's weird, man.
Well, I'll record them when they all come down.
